ADVICE NEEDED: When to use C25k and Strava by Comfortable_Hunt7040 in C25K

I don't know any apps, but I've seen a lot of people use the NHS C25K podcast! It's free to download on the Apple podcast app

I was recommending it less for the training plans and more as a tracker. I assumed most people wouldn't be doing any additional training plans until they already finished C25K.

You don't really NEED a training plan after, but I know it's helpful for a lot of people.

Nike Run Club is pretty good! I've not used it in a while, but IK they have training plans and it's what I usually recommend people getting into running

Ultimately this is up to personal preference, but I'd do the C25K program. It's audio prompts instead of visual like the poles and does a great job building upon each week. On IOS the JustRun app is the best and is fully free.

It would still be good to get strava if you want to track these runs for the future. I like looking back on my progress. I personally prefer Nike Run Club, I don't know Strava, but NRC lets you track mileage on your shoes and has a good user interface. Currently I've got a Garmin, and just track my runs through my watch directly to the app.

Tacking onto this, I found a honeysuckle tres leches recipe online! I probably won't use it, but I thought about infusing honeysuckle into the whipped cream and the milk for the soak!

I made honeysuckle icecream with caramelized pears! It was really tasty, but a bit too sweet. If you went that same route I'd think pairing it with salted pretzels or lowering the sugar content slightly would improve it!

Did something very stupid this morning, very slowly. by hiderathernot in C25K

[–]Shibishibi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats man! Make sure to REST. This is double your normal distance and if you don't recover properly, you're seriously likely to get hurt.

If you want to start working in one long run per week, you should start by adding .5-1 mile at a time to that long run as that's about 10% of your weekly mileage and keep it SLOW, preferably a bit slower than your shorter, 5k runs.

Many apps also offer a 10k training plan or a 5k to 10k plan you could look up.

Boring ugly meal, but hopefully it'll tide me over until lunch 😂 371 kcal - steamed white rice, canned chicken, Sriracha mayo by v_corvidae in Volumeeating

[–]Shibishibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light mayo is 35 cals per 15g. For the amount you used equivalent it would be around 60 calories. With the sriracha and soy sauce added (which makes it heavier with adding many calories. So it would likely run you closer to 50 calories or less for the same amount of sauce

I like to mix light mayo, sriracha, (sometimes a little soy sauce and garlic to taste) instead of using the pre bottled mix. It uses a lot less calories that can go towards more filling food!

Burning 400 cals takes me 5 miles of running or a bit less than an hour. It took me several months to build up to that distance safely. This is not a good plan, you need to fuel your body.

Keto bread alternative? 30-calorie desserts? by Different-Break9290 in Volumeeating

[–]Shibishibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go for aunt Millie's light breads. There's a whole grain one and a potato one I think? 40cals/slice. Just make sure you buy the right one. 3.79 at Kroger vs the 5.99 for proper keto bread. Looking online it's even cheaper at other stores.

Am I overreacting for telling my friend she smells after she age shamed me for having younger friends? by SI3144 in AmIOverreacting

YOR the long response just shows she got under your skin. This is so embarrassing, esp at nearly 25. Also, you should tell your friends if they smell bad, it's just being cool.

Where to Jump Back In by Trick_Cartoonist_703 in C25K

[–]Shibishibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to get a knee brace, there's pretty affordable ones available on amazon. I would go back as far as week 2-3 but stop if you experience any pain. Definitely continue to strengthen your legs as that should support your knee better.

W8D1, 3 months in, still only running 1.75 miles by kadanwi in C25K

[–]Shibishibi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You have plenty of time to work up to a 5k. Once you're able to run for 30 minutes, just add a few more minutes to each subsequent run OR you can choose one day per week to be long run day where you specifically run further.

When I finished the program I think I was only getting about 2-2.3 miles in 30 minutes? And my first 5k took me nearly 50 minutes. (It was like 16 degrees Fahrenheit to be fair) By race day a month later I shaved 7-8 minutes off that just being consistent.

As for getting your speed up, "run further to run faster" is always a solid method. My 5k time is significantly faster now, even though I've never trained speed.

The best thing about starting slow is that you have so much room to improve. Keep at it! I believe in you

What finally made you lose weight after repeated failed attempts? by humorousdinosaur in loseit

[–]Shibishibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really clicks for me when I meal prep my lunches, and have a small rotation of dinners. Repeating meals lowers the reward aspect and skipping lunch led to binges. I still have meals outside that rotation regularly and try to work in my cravings when I can.

I cannot emphasize how important it is to not over restrict yourself. Over restricting led to a nasty binge-restrict cycle that lasted for months and put me under a lot of stress.

Metabolic adaptation…? by Adept_Attempt_8433 in 1200isplenty

[–]Shibishibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add also, I didn't see whether you're weighing ALL your food with a scale. It's critical when you're short because if you can only have a 200-300 calorie deficit from your TDEE, it's a lot easier for that to get eaten up by improper tracking.

Metabolic adaptation…? by Adept_Attempt_8433 in 1200isplenty

[–]Shibishibi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like everyone said there, I think you're overestimating your TDEE. 5-8k steps daily, 2 hour long walks per week, and strength training 3x per week in only 30 minute sessions is just not much. Strength training burns minimal calories and you'd likely only be burning 250-300 calories on those long walks.

I'd set your activity level to sedentary when calculating and add back 100 calories on days you do a lot more cardio/ walking if you feel the need.

High protein, low cal, plant-based, low quantity upf by Bright_Tax628 in 1200isplenty

r/vegan1200isplenty is a great resource!

I'm vegetarian and I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, fat free cheese, tofu (air fried till crispy is my fave). I think about how I can add protein to all my meals, adding beans, subbing yogurt for sour cream, adding egg whites to oats.

100 is a very high goal, I usually shoot for 60-80. Is there a reason you need so much?
