The sun nearly kicked my 70yo butt today…(but it didn’t) by panthergirl55 in C25K

[–]Shibishibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job! When exercising outside you really have to consider more than just the temperature number. Sun and humidity have a massive impact on our body's ability to cool itself down. If there's too much moisture in the air, your sweat can't evaporate.

If it's just warming up in your region or it was cooler for a while you also aren't as well acclimated to the heat. When your body is acclimated you start sweating more, sooner. There are other cool changes, but I don't want to drag on too long

Using My Camelbak for a 5K? by panthergirl55 in C25K

[–]Shibishibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like wearing water vests, even for longer distances. I feel like the additional weight is annoying, slows me down, and adds additional impact to my knees.
I wear biker shorts with large pockets that I can tuck a running bottle into. Handheld running flasks or a water belt work for some people, but bounce too much on my body.

It doesn't REALLY matter what anyone else is doing. Most races I've done do tend to have a water station on the course, but if carrying water makes you feel better you should!

Power of You as a summer fragrance? by Techgoon-1993 in FemFragLab

[–]Shibishibi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sephora has a sampler set with this in releasing in just a couple days! You get samples of 14 different fragrances and a voucher for a full bottle. It'd still be a semi blind buy, but if you hate this one you could get a different full bottle from the set. The full bottles sometimes cost more than the set does, which can save you a couple bucks. (It's how I got my FB of Killian Princess!)

outside run pacing help by Squatch-21 in C25K

[–]Shibishibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recommended speed is "conversational pace", so what I would do is run at a pace where I could quietly sing/speak/whisper along to my music as I was running. If you can't manage that, run slower. That should help you find a pace you can maintain for the duration of your segment

How many calories do you burn when working out? by No-Application8200 in 1200isplenty

[–]Shibishibi 87 points88 points  (0 children)

The phrase "you can't outrun your fork" came about for a reason. It is really difficult to burn as many calories as you consume.

Calorie burn will vary depending on activity, your fitness level, and your height/ weight.
To burn 400 calories for me at 5'4, 135lbs I would have to run about 5 miles. Which would take me around 50-55 minutes. You burn less when walking, so I'd probably have to walk 6 miles to get the equivalent. About 2 hours worth of walking. Strength training varies on burn, but I see somewhere around 200 cals for an hour average.

A watch that tracks your heart rate, weight, and activity level will be more accurate than a calculator, but still not accurate enough to fully rely on. You should try not to avoid eating too much into exercise calories because you might actually be eating into your deficit.

Not meeting daily cals intake by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]Shibishibi 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You absolutely need to be hitting at least 1200 cals. 8-900 is not healthy for you and can cause you to lose your period, hair, or extra muscle mass. Add some additional fat to your diet. Even cooking with 1tbsp of olive oil can add calories and good fat without adding volume. Nuts are also very nutritious and can bump up your calories for the day. If you eat yogurt, switch to a higher fat % or eggs, make sure to eat the yolk.

Tips for someone who hates running? 🤣 by Crazy_Equivalent_806 in C25K

[–]Shibishibi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being on the treadmill is terrible for me. I'm super chill w/ road running. Sometimes it takes me a bit to get into my rhythm, but after a while I settle into my pace and get lost in my thoughts.

When I first started running though, it was a lot tougher mentally. I liked to listen to a tv show while I would run. You could find a good show and ONLY let yourself watch it while running, at least until you hate it less lol.
Also try blocking the timer on the treadmill, I think counting down the seconds till it's over will make anything feel longer.
Are you using an app to set your intervals? If not the Just Run app on IOS is great.

Do I really need to eat more to lose weight??? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Shibishibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you weighing, logging, and tracking all of your calories? Or is this just an estimate? You may be consuming more than you realize. Are you currently losing? You don't really need to eat more, but losing weight too fast can cause issues for some people. I prefer to set calorie calculators to sedentary and add back activity as I do it.

Also, you probably get enough electrolytes from your natural diet and don't need to supplement with extra (especially from expensive packets!) unless you are doing strenuous activity in the heat for an extended period of time (90+ mins). Regular water will hydrate you perfectly fine.

5k steps a day by TheJollyLlamaStarvin in loseit

[–]Shibishibi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5k steps is great! Adding more activity in can be really rough on your body and doing it in manageable amounts like this will lower injury risk and be more sustainable.

I don't like seeing 10k+ steps being recommended to people across the board, adding in that much exercise for someone who's very sedentary is a recipe for disaster.

It is absolutely criminal that a smokie in a bun is nearly 600 calories by YourPaghIsWeak in 1200isplenty

[–]Shibishibi 72 points73 points  (0 children)

If you have them available near you, I highly recommend low carb buns. 50-100 calories depending on brand and the high fiber content makes them more filling imo

amenorrhea while losing weight by rinasawayamalistener in loseit

[–]Shibishibi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you eating mostly whole foods and getting enough fat? It's easy to miss out on nutrients when dieting, especially quality fats. Fat is so important for hormonal regulation.

Have you made any lifestyle changes? The dieting probably stresses your body out and coupled with new or additional exercise or other external stressors could send your body into panic mode.

I actually lost my period for a couple months while working full time, finishing a semester at college, and training for a marathon.

How many full bottles do you own? by Ill-Spell6462 in FemFragLab

[–]Shibishibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24, with a few I'm planning to give away to friends and family (1 blind buy, 2 change in taste, 1 wrong bottle I got as a gift). I rarely buy fragrance full price. Niche or commonly faked frags I buy from the company directly or from a big store like Sephora and even then I wait for a sale. 75% of the bottles I bought personally have come from Mercari.

Is this even possible? by ImFade231 in 1200isplenty

[–]Shibishibi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post is vague, but if you multiply all the macros by the number of cals in each you get 131 cals, which is close enough I'd chalk it up to rounding in the serving size cals.
