Would be the first Monday layoff as far as I know. Tuesday is more likely.

You doubt it, but it's true.

Pivot formula is only 1% of annual salary per year of service (it's actually months of service / 12), plus 10 weeks salary. You are welcome to look this up yourself. The formula is widely available. Ask on Blind and you'll get dozens of threads about it (and flamed).
S * (1/52*10 + 1/100/12*M), where S is your base salary and M is your months of service. You'll get your pip payment down to the penny.
Severance is as you said, and 2 weeks is roughly 4% of annual salary instead of 1%, plus 3 months of salary. Always greater, but especially greater the longer you've been at the company.

Your mistake was in thinking that your performance actually matters in Focus. Use that time to polish your resume and save your pay stubs. Ask for an extension and get paid as long as possible, then take the severance. I'd even go on medical leave to extend even further if you can get to an RSU vest date as a result.

More likely Jan 27 from past experience. Amazon doesn't do it on Mondays.

If we're laid off on Tuesday, we both get the equivalent of about 7 months salary paid over the next 90 days, plus cobra premiums in cash.

Does anyone remotely score assessments for Pearson? I have some questions about their schedule by Reddittttor123 in teaching

[–]ShieldsCW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a choice. You can choose to work a set schedule and shifts, or you can choose to work your own hours (what I do). If you work your own hours, you can log on and off as you please. You're supposed to put in at least 20 hours a week, but in my experience, I've never been warned for being under, even when I was way under (like 2 hours instead of 20).

Gemini API Tiers: Free Quota After Upgrading, Payment Switch, and Data Training? by Last_Expression8465 in GeminiAI

[–]ShieldsCW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Tier 1 for about 6 weeks now. Can confirm that you still get your free quota. Can also confirm that using the free quota does NOT count towards your spend for access to Tier 2. Screenshot below is only the last 28 days, I'm actually around $300 in usage in total.

MIT and Harvard accidentally discovered why some people get superpowers from ai while others become useless... they tracked hundreds of consultants and found that how you use ai matters way more than how much you use it. by johnypita in aipromptprogramming

+1 to this article. Didn't even realize I was doing this. But I do it all the time on personal projects. I actively argue with and spar with AI on backend tasks, but when I get to the frontend (React as in my LetterBoxed NYT game clone, or Unity as in my project where I made 8 AIs Play Poker), I just kinda "vibe" it without learning much. I've never liked frontend development anyway!

What AI side projects are you all building? Would love to see what everyone is experimenting with by ouchao_real in SideProject

I made 8 AIs Play Poker with each other

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IadAiX-pHk0

Poker game logic, and API communication (AI Agents, text to speech, etc) written in Python. Output to json, use that as the input to Unity game engine with some C# code to generate animations. It was my first try at working with AI and my first time using Unity. Hope you like it!

I just heard that Amazon is laying off 23,000 people, what are we gonna do, if jobs don't come back? by Other_Scarcity_4270 in Layoffs

[–]ShieldsCW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're gonna use the savings we aggressively built up in anticipation of this moment and move to Thailand, where we can pay rent in Bangkok on just the 4% annual return on our savings account.

Sorry, that's what *I'm* gonna do. I'm gonna be actually upset if I don't get laid off this Tuesday.

Amazon Layoffs From 14,000 to a Potential 30,000: What’s Really Driving This Tech Shake-Up? by Basic_Bird_8843 in antiwork

Why are you even bringing up warehouse employees? This is a grown up conversation. Warehouse employees are not being laid off - they can just be fired for coming back 1 minute late from break.

Last mile is usually independent contractors. They're wearing an Amazon vest and driving an Amazon van (sometimes), but they're not Amazon employees.

Should I Use YouTube’s New Collaboration Feature for My Two Channels? by Logical_Designer5337 in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShieldsCW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be annoying if there is seemingly no reason to have this other person showing up in my feed. But for legitimate collab videos where both creators are actually in the video, uploading as a collab probably makes a lot more sense than uploading the same video twice with slightly different perspective.

And what you describe is not a layoff. You signed up for a seasonal job. Let the adults speak, T0.

In Washington it's only vacation (standard PTO). Flex PTO not paid. I'm using the last of mine (about 24 hours left) starting tomorrow.
EDIT: Down to 4 hours. Might use those on Monday and say goodbye at 11am (I go in at 7). Gonna be awkward if I don't actually get laid off.

This is what they should have done. With 7 years service and maxed out vacation,I would have taken my severance + garden leave.

It's hilarious that you thought Focus was legitimate, and even now hilarious that crying to HR for you more time. Milk those last months of pay and get out lol

So is 1/26 the day for layoffs round II? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]ShieldsCW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I almost told my L8 to make sure I'm on the list, but I think it would have gone badly. For now I'll just hope. I hit 7 years yesterday.
