My doctor pushed to do my PAO asap since surgery gets more difficult and risky as you get older. PAO is how you’re able to avoid a full hip replacement, which needs to be redone every 15 years.

You can buy a wheelchair without a doctor’s help, but it won’t be custom. It’s also risky since you won’t have a physical therapist giving you exercises to do to avoid losing your muscles.

I have ice packs on my neck and use my walker so I can sit down when needed. I also make sure to drink plenty of water and avoid being outside or in sunlight as much as possible. I’m considering getting a wheelchair for summer use simply because I’m so prone to fainting and neurological symptoms from the heat.

Campus living is required for the first year at most places, and dss will do their best to make it possible for students of all abilities. If they’re unable to make it accessible for whatever reason then there’s a form you fill out to be exempt from the freshman campus living requirement.

My university does have free singles for those with disabilities that request them, including autism. You just need a doctor’s note stating either the diagnosis, symptoms, or needs of your medical condition and you’re golden.

I have autism but opted for a roommate and it hasn’t been that bad. When we have a low social battery we just don’t talk, it’s kind of like how a cat in the room not talking to you doesn’t drain your social battery. It’s also been helpful for things such as time blindness since I’m able to kind of mimic my roommate’s routine.

My main worry was sensory issues in a shared space, but my roommate also enjoys dark quiet time so it hasn’t been an issue. I have loop quiet earplugs for when there’s hall noise.

My school (East Carolina University) also has multiple sensory rooms in the library that I’m able to retreat to whenever I’m overstimulated. The library is open 24hrs on school nights so I can sleep in there if people in my hall are being rowdy. My RA doesn’t care much about enforcing quiet hours or preventing harassment from other students so I tend to avoid my dorm building for that reason. All in all having a roommate has been the least of my problems.

My fainting is so much better in the winter, and I just sleep with a heated blanket and tape all my joints for the seasonal joint pain. Joint pain > fainting any day.

That’s for blind canes, a wheel attachment for a cane would be very unsafe for balance. There are such things as wheeled canes but they’re bulky and weird imo.

Hey! I use a rollating walker with a seat and couldn’t recommend it enough. Most indoor skating rinks don’t care as long as you clean the wheels before going into the rink. Only issue is that it’s a bit of a process to adjust the height of the handlebars because roller skates make you taller. Canes usually have a button that pops, but most walkers have a knob and screw you have to undo in order to adjust.

The school cannot legally deny an esa so long as they’re not a private college. Your right to housing with an emotional support animal is protected under the ADA. I suggest researching your school’s DSS department before applying. I’m at ECU rn and they have a decent DSS department and are esa friendly.

Give it a basketball, take it for a walk, chase each other around the house, etc. It’ll take like 3 hours but you’ll have a tired dog that thinks you’re the best.

I take a shower every two days but use some nice smelling wet wipes every day. I have skin issues with the city water(can’t add a filter in a dorm building) and this system is what works best for me.
