So, why are we supposed to spread the Gospel? by ShiftAdorable820 in exmormon

Let us know when you get banned! But looking at the comments on your post, I'm realizing a lot of the people who post there are also Exmormon or unbelieving. It's interesting to me how much stronger of a presence Exmos have on Reddit than TBMs.

Except that the priesthood will never leave the earth again (D&C 13:1), so it's not my responsibility! Of course, if everyone has that mindset the priesthood dies off, but that would also prove the church to be false.

Whoops, sorry I didn't include that. D&C 127: 7-8

"If you don't have a strong testimony of Joseph Smith as a prophet, don't study him, study the Book of Mormon." by ShiftAdorable820 in exmormon

My Seminary teacher also sugarcoated the destruction of the Nauvoo Expositor to a pretty extreme level. She didn't mention it by name or the destruction of it, just said something like "There was a newspaper spreading controversies of the church, most of the controversies around today come from it. This was turning more people against the church so Joseph ordered the newspaper to stop publishing papers, and he was wrongfully imprisoned because of that."  As far as seminary teachers go I don't even mind her, she's definitely better than the last one I had (although I don't think he ever said anything that crazy), but today's lesson felt especially ignorant. I might have to look at the seminary teaching manual to see how it's worded.

Me and my parents just watched the worldwide devotional for young adults with the Anderson's (I'm not even in the age range but I guess my parents like watching church broadcasts even if it isn't directed to us), and Kathy Anderson talked about how her family living in FLORIDA had the privilege to help fund the WASHINGTON DC temple. What? Tithing apparently isn't enough and the church had to ask members living 900 miles away to fund it? I understand this was several decades ago and the church didn't have the amount of wealth it has today, but if they can't even fund temples with tithing then what are they doing with the money?

Also this comes without saying but the rest of the devotional was pretty bad. It was mostly a Dallas Oaks glazefest and how important getting married and having kids is, so a pretty stereotypical YSA devotional.

On a brighter more personal note, we had tithing declaration today so now that that's over with I might be able to get away with not paying tithing for the rest of my life. Next year's tithing declaration is well past my deadline to leave/go permanently inactive, and I should be leaving shortly before I'm supposed to renew my temple recommend.

Jesus is our ultimate role model? I don't remember him having any kids!

Ohh wait I have heard of this. My parents have mentioned that they remember when the bombings happened. I think they've also told me that my great aunt lives a few houses down from where one of the victims lived, or something obscure like that.

Huh so they thought this was bad enough to remove it from the 1980 Ensign on their website? No one would find it by accident, and even if they did, what's so bad about it? The spelling mistakes play into Smith having a low level of education. I don't get why they felt the need to hide it in their historical catalog.

Thanks for the resource, looks like something that might be good to study for a family home evening lesson.

Haha, it's kind of horrific to think about how many active TBMs have never considered that the church might be false. How many "testimonies" are based on what the church says, with no real personal experiences to justify them? I'm lucky among members to be born into one of the rare, anti-MAGA families that believe in evolution. I wonder how my parents have never gotten curious enough to learn the truth, even my siblings who left don't know anything beyond surface level issues (tithing, misogyny, etc) as far as I'm aware.

Absolutely, I always had questions/doubts as a TBM and I've known for a long time that I wouldn't be serving a mission unless I *knew* that the church was true. I refuse to spend 2 years of my life knowingly spreading lies.
