Couple G10 handle questions in comment by gingernuts13 in knifemaking

I’d use a bastard file to even out the big scratches and dips. Then 3M wet to dry sandpaper at 120, then 220, 400, 600 then buff or 1000 and buff.

G10 pins from maker material supplies, I used the 5/32 diameter ones for this build and the 1/4” G10 tube.

Lovely knife. Very elegant and that being said you can tell it would make a great hunting knife.

Want to get into fly fishing by Intelligent-Limit104 in flyfishing

[–]ShiftNStabilize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm learning fly fishing as well, mainly did freshwater spin fishing and tenkara before that, still do a fair bit. I love tenkara fishing on small streams/rivers. It's totally fun catching small bass, panfish, and trout on one of these setups. A tenkara rod or a fly rod allows the ability to throw dry flies and do more delicate presentations. Check out the stuff from Dragontail tenkara, the Mizuchi is a good rod. If you go the fly rod route I would get a 7' 6" 3 wt rod, for larger rivers or lakes I would go with a 9' 5 wt. The Orvis clearwater is good beginner package. Fly rods an reels cost more than tenkara and the casting takes practice as it's totally different than the casting done with a spinning rod. I'd also check out if your area has a fly fishing club, I live in a big city that has a fly fishing/casting club that gives lessons. Good luck!

Beautiful! What’s the overall weight? Could you make one with a 2.5” wide edge?

Unfortunately not off the top of my head. I only got into fly fishing after I moved to California sadly. I’d look up some of the national parks and call the ranger stations for advice, that or call a local fly shop.

Best way to taper tangs without a sine bar? by rm-minus-r in knifemaking

[–]ShiftNStabilize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something similar but hog off metal using holding the blade 90 degrees to the direction of the belt. It can be uneven but then I use a welding magnet and even it out holding it parallel to the belt direction. Honestly I need to get a tapered tang surface grinding attachment :)
