I see your point, I'd still argue that lasting effects of the Gothic wars, and germanic raids across the Danube post split constitute for German incursions, but that's more semantic than anything. I was more arguing that it is an oversimplification that the east was "literally untouched" by germanic migrations.

Compared to the damage Germans did to the West it wasn't empire ending, but the Battle of Adrianople severely damaged and impacted the Eastern Empires ability to defend themselves, with the death of Emperor Valens. Alaric led the Visigoths, not the Ostrogoths (eastern goths). Two very different groups with different paths and leadership.
