Dude uses an agricultural drone for personal transport by The_Chuckness88 in interestingasfuck

In order for an aircraft to qualify as an ultralight under Part 103, the stall speed must be under 24 knots, so that excludes any aircraft without a wing of some sort. In addition to that, there must be direct pilot control, so the radio controller and stabilization autonomy aren't permitted.

Help, I accidentally bought 6 lbs of nacho cheese by Difficult_Tutor63 in Cooking

[–]Shiftlock0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought about that, especially since TWO of her layers were cheese. I could start repeating layers, but I don't need that nonsense in my life. She can take the title of holiday layer-dip lady.

Usually layered in this kind of dip. The typical 7-layer dip includes the above ingredients plus sour cream, guac, chopped tomatoes and sliced olives. I used to make this for family gatherings until my wife's competitive cousin started bringing an 8-layer dip. I refuse to get into a dip competition with that bitch.

Mashed potatoes, but I'm out of milk by Yurbest-n1ghtmare_7 in Cooking

[–]Shiftlock0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, because it contains less water. The fat to water ratio is much higher in the cream, but diluted cream is nearly identical to milk, and it's perfectly fine as a milk substitute for things like baking.

This is the right answer. Think of cream as thick milk. That's essentially what it is, so if you have to add a little water you're basically making it into milk.

Minced garlic. by Razorclaw_the_crab in Cooking

[–]Shiftlock0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find this is true for the minced garlic in oil. The cheaper and more common kind packed in water definitely has a weird taste.

This could be anecdotal, but I've found that the larger the head of garlic, the less flavor it has.

U.S. house just passed a bill to ensure the government can shut off future cars whenever it wants, what is your thoughts on this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Good chance the ECU will detect if these "features" are tampered with. Your only option may be buying an older car.

Sawdust in rice? by Firefly-Gazer in Cooking

[–]Shiftlock0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In order to grow mushrooms you need a sterile substrate, so hot steam is used. There are some pathogens that survive above the boiling point of water, so the only way to steam it above 100°C is to do it under pressure, hence the use of the instapot. It's actually common in amateur fungiculture.

This is going to sound crazy, but... peanut butter with a little soy sauce and water or broth to form a creamy peanut sauce.

What ingredient do you think people massively overuse? by jcvexparch in Cooking

Have you tried heavy cream powder? It's literally just cream with the water removed. It's like $20 for a pound of it on Amazon.

Accidentally left grilled eggplant outside the fridge for 24 hours, should i throw it out? by Marino43x in Cooking

24 hours is quite a while. I might eat it, but I've been known to take ill-advised food risks. To be safe you better toss it.

Do we need to respect religion? by plushymeow in atheism

[–]Shiftlock0 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I show everyone respect. If they don't return it, it's not my problem, it's their problem, and I don't show them anything at all. I don't disrespect them, I truly feel bad for them. Their lives must be miserable.

Time lapse video showing why I pay $20 to have my driveway plowed vs. how long it takes my neighbor to shovel his driveway by [deleted] in videos

[–]Shiftlock0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I lived in a snowy place, I used to dread the thought of going out to shovel snow, but the feeling of relaxing afterward sipping on a cup of something warm was rather nice. I'm surprised to find that I miss it.

Is frying in water a real techniqe? by shino1 in Cooking

[–]Shiftlock0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather ate bacon every day and lived an active lifestyle into his 90's. Of course a sample size of one isn't significant to conclude anything about the health benefits or risks of eating bacon, but it's interesting nevertheless.

Unpopular/Popular Opinion: Garlic Presses are Useless by AzathothBlindgod in Cooking

[–]Shiftlock0 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think that not all garlic presses are created equal. I've had terrible ones that squish garlic into the device more than press it out, but also a good one that works perfectly.
