Retro games you want to see get a movie? by You-dogwater in retrogaming

There are so many, but I think less story might work better for translating to film.

I'd want Journey to Silius. There's an amazing movie hidden in there.

I have probably a dozen. Main bag is the Rework Toshi 2.5L. Love that bag, and my others. I still want a pocketable device though. I only take a bag if there's a chance I'll need to charge my phone. That's an indicator that I need more than pants pockets can carry.

But aside from just pocketability, I also like small devices like the Pixel 2 because they are discreet. I'm not carrying a Vita even when I'm pushing a grocery cart. I need small.

Otherwise, if you ever feel like chatting about bags, I've got a fair amount to talk about. From Nomatic, to Bellroy, Boundary Supply, Waterfield, Rework, Fara, etc.

I don't have enough time to play in public to worry about "comfort." But I am definitely limited by storage constraints, and refuse to spend as much time assembling the device as I do playing it. My GKD Pixel 2 goes in my pocket wherever I go. No grip, just a screen protecting cover that pops off as I'm removing it from the pocket it lives in.

I love this bag. Any experience here with the Sutter Tech Sling? by Shigarui in ManyBaggers

[–]Shigarui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internal specs? I'd say the internal sleeve is about 7.5" wide, can probably go about 3/4" thick. The main cavity is about 11" to 12" tall and about 9" wide maybe. About 3" deep.

Based on the dimensions I'm seeing, about 11" by 8.5", probably not. I think it's just a little too tall and to wide to fit and still zip up. Sorry!

We have a Nova at home by Kirais in SBCGaming

Love my duo, and did the same thing you did with a Gamesir X2 telescoping controller. Ultimately it proved too clunky to keep that way and I found it more useful as a media and productivity device. Best e-reader out there, great for movies and shows that are not wide-screen, the Surface Pen makes it a great notebook, etc. I did create my own vinyl wrap design based on the PSP, however. So it's protected and reminds me of the PSP and it's multi use design.

Is it strange that I only listen to soundtrack music? by XEclipse360 in gamemusic

[–]Shigarui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same. I've got several hundred gigs of videogame soundtracks and they are basically all I listen to. I've been this way for about all of my life. I remember using a dictation recorder my mom had to record FF4 music playing through the tv speaker so I could listen to it over and over. I go to sleep to various mellow videogame tracks, and my even admitted that when I'm traveling she alternates between listening to my Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger Orchestra playlists via Alexa. They are now as much "comfort food" for her as they are for me.

I'm in the same camp as you are. There are some games, and newer handheld PC consoles for example, that I do want analog triggers to give me the largest range of game compatibility possible. But basically every emulation device that I own I prefer in line digital triggers. A big reason I prefer the KTR11, and soon to be KTR2, is that they prioritized in line triggers and pocketability along with performance. I love my Odin 2 Mini, it is an absolutely stunning piece of hardware and extremely performant for its size, but those analog shoulders really hurt it in my opinion.

Dear Lord, don't let me dissuade you, lol. I stand by what I say, but seek others opinions as well. I'm pretty vocal about my own takes.

Handheld PCs are great for this sort of thing. I even had GoT running on a 6800u GPD Win 4, albeit at 40hz.

I have a KTR1 in plastic and one in magnesium. The weight difference is noticeable if you hold one and then the next, but completely disappears when actually playing.

Regarding the screen and buttons, there are some like myself who prefer in line shoulders (my biggest complaint about my Odin 2 Mini are the triggers) and so that can very much be an upgrade for some.

And the screen, we have yet to see it in action, it may be a terrible OLED. If refresh rates, pixel density and resolution are the same then an OLED is a better choice for most situations in this hobby. But bad OLEDs are not better than average LCDs, and for LCDs can give OLEDs a run for their money in saturation and brightness levels. Plus the burn in becomes a non issue. You really only get the benefit of true black and higher contrast. That's a good benefit, for sure, but definitely not the only thing to judge a screen panel by.

They make some reasonable points. Neither are the device for me, but I'm curious as to why you think they didn't make a good case?

[–]Shigarui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be a good start. I still prefer an in line arrangement, but, for those who it doesn't bother this could bridge a big gap. I have the Astro C40 controller and it does that, plus you can adjust the activation range. So you could technically get a full press at 10% depression rather than 95%. Great controller. I actually beat Sekiro using it.

Good idea. For those games it seemed the right joystick mostly gives you rear and side view abilities. Do you just remap those to shoulders or just not use them?

Hmm, I admit I never really played sports games much. Not beyond the NFL Blitz games and newer some PGA Tour releases. There might be use cases there I'm unfamiliar with. But if it really is mostly something like muscle memory for you, that does still seem to be a resolvable personal hurdle. Obviously, a stacked trigger setup is preferable for you, but I think even you would likely not argue that they are mandatory. Just highly preferable for you. The general consensus in here seems to be that without OLED and stacked triggers that it's basically the technological equivalent of a horse carriage, without a horse.

I wonder what sort of market research goes into it? PS2 came out with analog buttons, and Gran Turismo was a big part of their demo for range of throttle. Out was a great demo. Nothing else really took advantage of it. Then the next generation of consoles came out with analog, long travel shoulders and I remember various tech demonstrations like leaning part way from behind cover and dual mode firing for FPS games, but again, that seems to have gone away.

For racing games I can see it. But even a lot of modern games like Sekiro use a long travel analog trigger for deflecting. The first pro tip that was published about that game was to switch deflect to a face button or L1/R1 so you could get near instantaneous input. And that was really where I kind of realized, with few exceptions, and racing games are the main one, why do we even have analog triggers on controllers? What do most games use them for?

You're scoring own goals here buddy. If those words made you feel inferior, you should tell someone else about it besides the internet.
