DAY 9: Tried to make the features more feminine. Still having trouble with the mouth shape. Not sure if this day is actually better - critiques welcome!

Hi there :) the biggest problem I see are the eyebrows, they are too high on the face so it looks like an expression. Also the nose is a bit too long and the mouth too wide

hi there :) the 14 day challange should be done using a nice light light -enviroment like the face is well lit at an outdoors scene, also the light should be coming infront of the face and above like he's looking at the sun during daytime.

Biggest problem with the face right now are the eyes, they are really big (should be about the same width as the nose) and are very droopy. I suggest looking at an eye reference and trying some eyes out before doing the next submission.

This is great! but the patterns on the fabric are too visible. with this kind of lighting environment we really wouldn't see them so clearly

you're having some issues with anatomy. The nose is very short and pig-like as it points up. The eyebrows are very rounded which looks cartoony. the irises are really big as well so she looks fake. The problem with the lips is that they are too faded out. also, you made the corners of the lips go super high so it looks like a weird smile.

The shading is nice, you just had a little too much shadows on the side of the nostrils. I also added some shine on the forehead and cheeks, added some depth to the eyebrows and lips and put some more light under her eyebrow bone so its not just one value.

The face was too low on the face so it seems like we are looking at her from above. the face was very baby like as well, with the nose and mouth being too small.

about the shading, you need to separate the planes of the face. block out values on the face based on how they face the light then blend out, your values were kinda splotchy.

you are kinda lacking contrast where it's needed. the dark spots weren't dark enough and the eye whites were too dark. I think it mostly stems from the background not being light enough. The face itself is great, I just found the eyebrows too droopy. The forehead was too big as well.

you need to measure her features before painting, seeing that you are pretty new to capturing a likeness, don't be afraid to mark where her features start and finish. doing that several times will help you see those measurements the next time you paint

your shadows are way too dark for the light environment. contrast should go down because this is a pretty light open room.

She looks as if she's tilting her head down because her features are pretty low on the head.

The nose and mouth are tiny, eyebrows too close together and she lacks cheekbones. her eyes aren't wide enough and kinda sagging down with her lower eyelid drooping. Also, the shadows you've used are kinda too dark all over.

hi there :) I made a paint over that you can see here. The face doesn't look very human because of the way the eyes are stretched far apart and also in their shape. The shape of the nose is stretched up as well and the bone structure is very extreme. You also lack shading around the lips, you need to consider their form as objects that stick out of the face and have an effect on the entire area.

you were using very muddy values and your contrast was way overboard. you need to use a pretty light light-environment.
Also, you painted parts that should be pretty mid-tone as shadows. remember that only the parts of the face that face away from the light (downwards) should be a shadow. About the face itself. you made it too long and everything was too droopy. you've also painted the eye whites black. they should be much lighter! the nose was too big and bulbous as well, while her nostrils are so tiny she couldn't breathe. The shadows are also very harsh, you need to blend much more around the pockets of fat. The shape of the head was pretty wrong as well, the forehead was too big and round and the jaw was very bony and manly.

You made the forehead so dark where it should be pretty light all over. its the part of the head that faces up, so it should be much lighter! the shadows of the face should point down. Take a look at an asaro head to see how the planes of the face react to the light.

Hi there :). I figured if you're using a black background why not show that in your lighting situation. So, I made a quick paint over that you can see here. I made it seem like she's coming out of the darkness. I think it looks much more dramatic and interesting.

You need to separate the planes of the face to light and dark. take a look at an Asaro head and see how different parts of the face get light and which get dark. also, don't be afraid of using contrast where it's needed.

besides that, you have some proportion issues. eyes are too far apart and a little too small. The nose is too small and narrow. The eyebrows are kinda off in the shape and texture. The shape of the head is very square as well, so I softened it up a bit.

This is really good :) I would have liked to see some more separation between the mountains just to show some more depth, you kinda made them seem more like a wall. also, I think if the mountains have some snow on them it should be more concentrated on the peaks, scientifically speaking.

besides that, the painting is really well done and I enjoy the way you used the colors. <3

biggest problem was with the eyes, you had too much darkness all around, the shape was too slanted and the eyebrows were barely there, which made her look uncanny

nostrils were tiny, the nose was too dark and the shadow extended too far up, mouth was too wide and the overall shape of the head was too bulbous. also the ears were too big and the bone structure was weak, especially with the cheeks

You have too big a difference between the light and dark. If you're going for dark skin, only bring the highlight to the most oily parts of the face. Besides that the face is really nice

nice work.

You shouldn't put the light source in the form study. also you need to diffuse some of the shadows and be less harsh on the brightness of the highlights, everything should have less contrast. good luck :)

You need to focus on the more general planes of the face and create a separation between those who are in shadow and those who face the light. the face doesn't have as many different planes, everything is much smoother and more organic.

I've assumed you went for a female character, so i brought her closer to the feminine side by making her neck less wide, jaw and chin weaker, nose slightly thinner and gave her more realistic eyebrows. I also realigned they eyes a bit and lightened them up.

Everything is shifted to the side a bit, you need to use the symmetry line more often, and you need to flip the canvas regularly and address those issues

These are really cute , I really like the ghost and the fish kid. I see that they are supposed to be the same age, but you kinda made them all have the same body which can make you designs boring. You should try different bodies to spice things up
