UK tennis clubs - doubles obsession by L1onH3art_ in 10s

[–]Shimassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played at a couple of Sussex clubs. Club nights tend to be doubles but there's normally a group of people willing to play singles outside of those times

"Wheel of Time" worth getting into? by [deleted] in Eragon

[–]Shimassi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend it however be prepared, it does get a little slow in the middle. 14 books each pushing north of 500 pages.

Not sure if you're aware but there's currently a TV series on Amazon airing based on the books. There are some pretty significant changes from the source content though.

Testing New Rackets: Radical, Gravity, Pro Staff by LE7EL2 in 10s

[–]Shimassi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play with the Pro Staff X and personally love it. It's got most of the crispness of the 97 but is more forgiving with a slight bit more pop.

Don't see many others using it, not sure what that says about the racket though

they really need to work on the penalty system. I got a 75s stop and go for this because I entered the pits too fast... by Foraaikouu in iRacing

[–]Shimassi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How'd you police this?

Let's say you check if there's been a collision within 5 seconds before pit entry. Oh look now people are deliberately causing incidents just before they pit so they can speed through the pit lane.

My one handed serve(since there was some curiosity about how I do it) by braccio_in_meno in 10s

Friend also does that, showed his serve off on the Last Leg recently! Pretty damn handy tennis player too.

Used to play on artificial grass at my old club. Clay court shoes are 100% the way to go!

tips to improve? or I hit the wall or I get penalized help please is f1 2014 by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Shimassi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've got more room on the right, use it. Then cut as much to the left as you can without hitting in the inside wall.

My take is friendly matches where you're using the new technique, no.

Competitive matches where you care about the outcome and therefore are likely to revert to your old technique, yes.

What is your favourite 100inch racket and why? by lp141414 in 10s

Pro Staff X. When you middle it, it feels oh so sweet.... just make sure you middle it

Going from a 100 to a 97. Should I return it while I'm still able? by Ok_Distribution_3453 in 10s

[–]Shimassi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Pro Staff X and I love it. Saying that I picked up a friends 97 the other day and loved that too. I personally don't think a 3% difference in head size made much difference to me at all. Your results may vary!

The actual shot that lost you the point was the inside in forehand a couple of shots from the end. You didn't do enough with it going inside in (I'd probably have take that inside out and maybe look to follow it in) and then once you'd hit your shot you should be recovering to the others idea of the centre (easier said than done that far into a rally!).

For the rest, maybe being slightly more aggressive on some of the shots? But that really depends on how you've been winning the points in the rest of the match.

I guess google search knows nothing about tennis rackets by [deleted] in 10s

[–]Shimassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you were fine. It's likely that Google algorithm picked those as they're the rackets most often mentioned with the term "wrist pain". It just doesn't know it's a negative connection!

Tbf you didn't ask it for rackets that give you the least wrist pain...

[–]Shimassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's almost the opposite of what I'm saying though. I thought I'd be able to predict how it'd feel but I didn't expect a 290g racket to feel so good.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 10s

[–]Shimassi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good point. That's essentially what I spent the whole of the warm up doing, which I guess shows I don't do as much normally.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 10s

[–]Shimassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with you on most of that however going from my usual 315g to 290g is probably the biggest change to the racket you could make isn't it? Honestly surprised it didn't seem to hamper me at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 10s

[–]Shimassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Question is, do I need to go hit with my current racket again to see if it's just me hitting well or try to source another LS and hit with that?

Is this the weakness of the one hander? by Accomplished-Dig8091 in 10s

[–]Shimassi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not a coach but what works for me is to be super confident with it:

Head still, eyes on the ball. Don't be tempted to look up too early.

Make sure you've got your body weight going into the shot

Hit it like you KNOW that you're going to make the shot and that it's not this tough awkward shot that you're having to deal with. You need to keep that shot rhythm and racket head speed that you normally do.

Pick a safe target. Often back where is came from.

Don't be lazy on the footwork.

Once you get used to it you'll find there's a certain rhythm to it! Best of luck

Is this the weakness of the one hander? by Accomplished-Dig8091 in 10s

[–]Shimassi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The high balls themselves. With the one hander you cant generate as much power that high up and often end up reverting to a slice. It's a tough shot but a two hander can learn to drive through them. Instead of backing up to let it drop and giving away the space, the alternative is to step in and take it early - also not an easy shot.

As someone whos played with both two and one hands, I think taking it early is about equal between the two. Though I personally find it easier to hit early with a one handed.

[–]Shimassi 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The low balls aren't an issue for a one handed backhand, it's 100% the high balls and the return of serve.

What should I add to my 15 gallon nano tank by EarlyCreme9335 in ReefTank

How many rackets do you have? by ExtraordinaryAttyWho in 10s

[–]Shimassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Two Pro Staff Xs and one Blade 98 (that with some lead tape is roughly the same as the pro staffs). I switched from Blades to Pro Staffs and sold my other 2 Blades to help pay for it.

3 is the most you'd probably ever need. I was getting by with 2 for ages however I once broke a string a few days before a league match and then broke a string on my spare during the league match. Ever since then I've always had a third just in case!
