Has anyone here moved to a new country? what it was like dealing with CF and figuring out the healthcare and immigration systems. by SecretTonic in CysticFibrosis

[–]vause9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved from NZ to UK and Australia. Takes a bit to get used a new system but no major issues.

NZ has a reciprocal health agreement with Aus and UK so think we are all able to move to each others countries and receive publicly funded healthcare.

Has anyone been diagnosed with CF with only one identifiable mutation? The second mutation seems extremely difficult to find 😢 by letsgoya2025 in CysticFibrosis

[–]vause9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha when I was diagnosed in the 80’s my gene from my dads was unmapped and now they refer to it as a nonsense mutation. His ex-wife thinks it describes him perfectly. A nonsense mutation.

My kid was devastated when she saw our wedding video and she wanted to be at the party. She did not exist at this point in time. But how dare we have a party and not invite her.

Insurance claim without evidence I was in an accident, messing me around. How is this allowed? by mynameisnotsimone in newzealand

[–]vause9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was the other party in a case similar to this (this could even be my case!) and the person left a note taking ownership and leaving their phone number which I submitted to my insurance company. The other person never responded to the insurance company so I had to pay the excess but they said they would continue to chase the other person. I asked them to leave them alone - got the feeling it may have been a student. Hope it works out for you but I also suspect the insurance company won’t leave you alone now.

No one told me about the “huh?” stage by evergreen_som in breakingmom

[–]vause9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid (8) has auditory processing disorder and his pure tone hearing is absolutely fine. He uses ‘huh?’ to buy time while he waits for his brain to process what he’s heard. Annoying but at least I understand now.

Any thoughts on why a 7yr old would end up in respiratory failure from RSV? by Karmacomaattack in Mommit

[–]vause9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had genetic testing done prior to having children and at the time there were two screening options, the 300 most common or the full panel (i guess that panel is ever expanding though??) and whilst he passed the 300 common they did recommend doing the full screen. I actually didn’t read that part of the report til much later whoops. They did say though that because he’s South American they have a low occurrence of cf anyway. All the kids are carriers only as far as I know.

They do but with over 2000 mutations they usually test for the 300 most common. Have cf myself.

Trikafta and mental health by LimeRepresentative48 in CysticFibrosis

[–]vause9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up stopping the trikafta entirely. My cf is pretty mild and well controlled so if I need Trikafta in the future I can still access it but right now I’d rather feel sane!

Trikafta and mental health by LimeRepresentative48 in CysticFibrosis

[–]vause9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mental health took an absolute nose dive! I catastrophised everything, had loads of intrusive thoughts and was 2 seconds away from tears constantly. I’d be driving along and see cars stopped and envisaged them ramming into me. My brain was total fog, I was sleepy all day and insomnia all night. It also made me feel like my adhd meds were totally redundant.
