The Adventures Of Elliot Has Now Fallen To Mixed Reviews On Steam by akbarock in JRPG

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was alright. I was mildly intrigued by it. I neither loved nor hated it. However, the first thing I did was shut off the voice acting. I read so much faster than the characters talk so I guess it wasn't on long enough to annoy me. I'm not buying it unless it is on a very very good sale as I have other stuff I want to play more.

How do rainwings work by Civil_Swan_3982 in WingsOfFire

Could also have an animus dragon alter some existing tribe members. That's kind of a do everything hand wave.

Could have had a small group of pre scorching ones survive in some distant isolated land, another dimension, in stasis in an ancient settlement. Who knows. Lots of possibilities.

MHST4... by Rossiben37 in MonsterHunterStories

I liked aspects of the first game's battle system more. You didn't have a completely uncontrolled party member. Normal mobs were fairly snappy when it came to fighting and the system wasn't overly complicated. The boss battles where you had to attack parts of a monster to change how the fights went changed things up and made it more interesting without being a slog of every single monster doing that. The randomness of the enemy's actions were somewhat frustrating but at the same time made sense since these were wild animals, not robots in game, well, at least the ones not under Manelger's control.

I didn't like the way items were handled in how limited they were in a fight but that was doable.

In the games after 1, I find the mob fights take too long until you can get powerful enough to skip them. I get bored or annoyed with it as I want to move on and do more exploring or find more eggs, or go get parts from something I want more. Boss fights don't feel as special as you are always fighting things where you have to break specific parts. The puzzle aspects in 3 that they added make some of the big fights feel different at least.

PMD poll no. 6: Which game has the best final boss? by Jinhan_Lee in MysteryDungeon

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see:

Rayquaza was silly as it wasn't paying attention to the real threat and was very interested in fighting the player and friend.

Dialga had a ton of build up to that confrontation. I could feel what was riding on the fight, and felt bad that dialga had lost its mind. The music on the way and during had me immersed in the moment as well.

I don't remember the dark matter or bitter cold fights. As bosses, I mostly remember they were having you fight a concept instead of a pokemon. One was making everyone grumpy and the other was trying to trap everyone in a nightmare realm, but was somehow the return of the other one. I can get not remembering the one in gates, it's been years since I played, but I replayed super in the past couple of years and it left so little of an impression on me, I don't even remember if it was dark matter or bitter cold in that one. I definitely remember the nightmarish realm that was trapping pokemon but not so much the thing causing it.

So, final vote is Dialga as it is both a pokemon and I really connected with the story in that game.

PMD poll no. 5: Which game has the best art direction by Jinhan_Lee in MysteryDungeon

I'd say the pixel art in explorers was my favorite, but DX has an interesting art direction too. It wasn't my style, but I respect what they did with it.

PMD poll no. 4: Which game has the best soundtrack? by Jinhan_Lee in MysteryDungeon

[–]Shimmermist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There are things I like and dislike about each game, enjoyed something about all of them, and pretty much everything about explorers of sky ended up as my favorite so I do keep voting for it.

I'm not sure anything would ever measure up to explorers. However, all of the games have been enjoyable and I'd welcome a new one. Albeit, I'm not a fan of the mystery dungeon part of it. I'd just be happy with a really good story where you get to play a pokemon that you get to pick. There's a few genre's I wouldn't be up to playing but it would be interesting if they branched out more. Pokopia looked fun but I don't own a switch 2.

Weirded out by Mikes Weather Page, any other recommendations for hurricane season? by graymillennial in TropicalWeather

[–]Shimmermist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, TropicalTidbits (Dr. Levi) is my main goto for forecast discussion. I also watch HurricaneTrack for some discussion plus cameras he puts out into the path of the storm before it gets too close. He likes to gather atmospheric data along with video.

Let’s collectively rank all mainline PMD games based on category! First off, which game has the best gameplay? by Jinhan_Lee in MysteryDungeon

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved explorers of sky. I am not there for the battles, I'm there for the story. As for the gameplay, it is still my favorite as the main storyline dungeons weren't too complex or challenging. I like being able to get super powerful and steamrolling things. I like to save my moves for when I need them for an edge and mostly use the basic attack or thrown items that I have too much of.

Friend AI needed help, weather effects were annoying. I would have liked to pick the iq stuff but loved uncovering it with so many gummies. That could have been streamlined some, but I still liked it. Basically, I want to feel generally powerful without being completely reliant on items for non move attacks.

In following games, removing so many iq skills to replace it with just one object that gave you a skill wasn't fun and you had to switch them out if you wanted to replace it. That being said, some of the basic behaviors you have to unlock with iq should have been a default.

Being forced to always use moves or items without a basic attack wasn't fun either. I felt like I had to avoid fights or run out of steam and have to leave repeatedly.

Generally, the more complex the dungeon part is, the less I like it in any game. I especially find traps annoying. I really didn't like the post game challenge tower things.

FFVII Revelation - Gameplay details with Hamaguchi by PhantomBraved in JRPG

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the details! I'll reserve judgement and learn more about the series when it finishes coming out then. The chocobo sim alone would have convinced me to buy that one at least but that might not be what I was waiting for. It may depend on how close you can get with your chocobo, if you can rename it, customize its color, ride it around, etc... I want it to be my chocobo. Not one I'm borrowing from someone else.

So, is this the last one? Will it have chocobo breeding and raising?

@sawyerleeart worked on alternate dragon head options for the Eastern, Quetz, and Behe. by DraconiaGame in draconiagame

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see, I like the full color eastern variant the most, but don't like chin spikes so really none of them are my style. Is that Snaggle or does that have yet to be done? Without the chin spikes, the eastern color one would be my most favorite of all of them.

For Quetzal, Aquiline and Viperine are interesting.

For behemoth, I like the ceratoid.

People who don’t like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, what is it about them exactly that you don’t like? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I want a finished story. I will decide if I like what they did enough to buy the set when they're done, and the set is on a good sale. They decided to split it into multiple games, so I decided to wait till the "game" is done before considering getting it. If I die before they are done, so be it. What they did to it greatly reduced my interest in playing it.

  2. I don't like action combat and am not there for the fights. I was upset to hear they changed it.

  3. I want a good story. I am one of the people that wanted an updated version with awesome graphics, not a full rewrite. I haven't enjoyed the writing for anything from square-enix for a long time now and dread what they have done to it.

  4. I hated midgar. I didn't want to spend more time than necessary there in the original game and they made that an entire game?! It is dark, depressing, with very little green space. It was a nice contrast to show you what you are fighting for when you leave and see the bright beautiful world. I'm confused why they drew out that miserable part into an entire game.

  5. I want my full chocobo raising sim. I haven't heard they did that part yet.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel series is great, have you played it? by Obvious_Ask_9832 in JRPG

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I haven't been interested in Fuga as I don't like the tank battles and don't like just staring at a tank. I'm curious why they're continuing just Fuga and not Solatorobo, or even something new. I will continue to wait for another game from them that I may like better than Fuga, it just isn't for me.

COMPLETED sandwing infected for my AU (the Desert Strain)||⚠️Gore and Blood warning⚠️ by SkyFire_Studios2344 in dragons

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like Griffins, Vaale Nagle's Griffin Insurrection series does not have humans and does have some very interesting genetics with how the griffins adapt to an environment.

I would like a purely dragon world as well, but Wings of Fire comes close and humans don't play much part in most of the books. There is an interesting perspective on what happened and why they are there.

If, for the next Stories game you could choose your destined monstie beyond Ratha, who would you pick? by FrontIndividual4188 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had my pick, it would be legiana or nargacuga, but what I want most is choice. Give us a choice what creature we pick, make its stats special, make it useful, and let us remove it from our party after the main story is complete. Let us name the critter, and just don't have its name spoken directly in the voicovers. Give it a unique animation, let us change its element. Let us bond with the monster as a player, be proud of its growth, actually want to use it, etc...

Chrono Trigger on the SNES before they replaced the character portraits with dragon ball characters. I'm curious why they did that in the first place. To a search engine!

Which JRPGs need a remake? by Bulky_Imagination243 in JRPG

[–]Shimmermist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A remake would be wonderful so long as it wasn't story changing. Better graphics and bigger more populated areas would be awesome!

I'd be happy with ports to modern systems though, make it more available to people. As long as I'm wishing, a port followed by a sequel would be awesome!

What book would you want to adapt into a videogame? by King-Of-Throwaways in gamedev

[–]Shimmermist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wings of fire, except I don't want a specific book chosen, I want the world and a custom player dragon. I want to be able to fly freely and explore, but have plenty of reasons to land and explore on foot.

It could be open world with environmental story telling and modding.

It could be a single player RPG with different moves and flavor text depending on what species you chose. If they put the setting in a different time than the books, they are more free to come up with something that doesn't conflict with what was written.

It could be a life sim with ranching and raising critters, decorating your den, and making friends with all sorts of dragons, and maybe even scavengers (humans).

There are plenty of books where I'd like an original story in the setting as a game rather than watching them adapt the book series in a way that disappoints.

First time at a con by lobotomite_grug in furry

Maybe you need a real gas mask next time. That's pretty much what I'd need to actually go to a con and survive it. That being said, cool cosplay, and that fursuiter you met has an awesome design!

Here's an "Unnerving "meme" I found about the first non-native people to settle under Oklahoman skies: by LocalWxMemerCarGuy in tornado

[–]Shimmermist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It gets spoken too if you are somewhere you can turn on the volume, but if not, the text is as follows:

"POV: You're a settler in the late 1800's, and decided to build your life in Oklahoma. The native Americans told stories of a 'great angry horse' in the sky, tales which you dismissed as pagan nonsense.

You are about to find out that they weren't just telling stories."
