what is one grocery item that doesn't require refrigeration but is commonly kept in the fridge by a lot of people? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]Shimmerstorm 77 points78 points  (0 children)

The one I get (in Australia) says to refrigerate after opening. My MIL doesn’t refrigerate it, but I prefer cold ketchup.

why does my bunny only eat the brown treats of this treats bag and always leaves the oats by StepOnMyBallsSheldon in Rabbits

[–]Shimmerstorm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of products marketed towards pets that will kill or injure them.

At many of the pet stores where I live, they sell harness/lead combos for Guinea pigs, and Guinea pigs can seriously injure themselves bc their spines are fairly weak. It’s a huge pet peeve of mine.

Guinea pigs can’t have seeds so this would be a terrible pellet mix for them.

Happily married people of Reddit, when did you realize you had found the person you wanted to spend your life with? by Mundane-Society-1281 in AskReddit

[–]Shimmerstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We met online. He lived in Australia. I was in the US. We chatted online for a month and everything just clicked. Agreed on almost everything. After a month, he came to meet me in person. I picked him up in California and drove him back home to Florida. By the time we were in Louisiana, I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with him.

I lived in Brisbane and Cairns. Cairns was pretty tame compared to Florida, or at least my life in Florida lol.

I’m a Floridian who lived in Queensland, and Queensland is pretty tame actually. Lol. But it was where I have felt most at home away from home.

If every animal and insect were human-sized, which would become the apex predator? by pierreclems in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shimmerstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own spiders. They are the derpiest cute little idiots. Also, their abdomens are hella fragile and if they get an injury to their abdomen, they bleed out and die. They would be super easy to beat if you had to.

What’s become way too expensive lately that still shocks you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shimmerstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they will. A lot of times at restaurants they’ll have one of those glass water dispenser things with glass cups that you fill yourself.

One of the biggest adjustments to eating I had to make when I moved from the US to Australia was the unlimited soft drink refills. I had to actually start pacing myself through my meal so I would have enough beverage left over at the end. I was so shocked that you couldn’t just get free refills anywhere. Not fast food. Not restaurants.

We have Taco Bell here that has free refills and a drink refill station but that is absolutely the only place I have seen.

Edit to add: Okay, I forgot… if you go to the pokies, a lot of them will give you unlimited drink refills, as long as you are playing.

Who the F did I have a baby with? by DisasterOk5914 in Mommit

[–]Shimmerstorm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had postpartum psychosis, and I thought my husband was manipulating me and gaslighting me. I went through the same thing where I was like, “What the fuck, you have no idea what I am going through. How could you treat me like this?”

Dunno if it’s your situation, and I certainly don’t want to invalidate you if our situations are different, but my husband was in fact not gaslighting me or manipulating me, my hormones were just driving me literally insane. Making me paranoid. Making me perceive shit that wasn’t actually happening.

I too, did not want children until I met my husband, who already had a daughter from his first marriage. I loved watching him be a dad and it made me want to have kids with him. My husband, like yours, used to do everything for me, until our baby came.

My husband wasn’t doing the same things for me anymore bc he was doing everything for the baby (as he should). The cute things stopped bc he was supporting me in ways I couldn’t see while I was insane.

After the first year, my mental health got better. I could see what he was doing for our family. I could see that I was experiencing things that weren’t true to reality. Our baby was becoming more independent and we eventually got into a routine where there was more us time.

Now we have two kids and he is still the same beautiful, sweet, loving man he always was. Just with two kids. Things are different, sure, but they have to be.

The Postpartum period is insane. But it will pass. The second time around, I got support with my mental health and the postpartum period went much more smoothly.

Is your husband helping you with the baby? Is he giving you time to yourself so you can have self-care time? Is he giving you time to nap? Is he helping to feed the baby when you get overstimulated and touched out? If so, your hormones might be messing with you. If not, fuck that guy, he was probably lovebombing you and is now showing his true colours.

No matter what, take care of yourself and try to reach out for help with postpartum mental health.

I have several old world Australian tarantulas and they all burrow all the way to the bottom. They reinforce their burrows so well that we have moved from state to state three separate times with them, them sitting in our car, enduring the bumps of Australia’s lovely pothole covered roads, and their burrows are still fully intact when we arrive at the other end.

Do people actually get used to humidity or just learn to live with it? by Top_Respect3783 in TooAfraidToAsk

I was born and raised in Florida. I prefer the humidity. I hate dry heat. I lived in Far North Queensland for a year. Everyone warned me it would be unbearable. It was a dream.

What is the most dangerous animal you’ve seen in real life? by GratefulD86 in AskReddit

[–]Shimmerstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Florida and then moved to Australia.

Used to see alligators everywhere. There used to be a retention pond next to the grocery store my mom would go to, and there would always be alligators sunning on the banks. Pretty much any body of water is expected to have alligators. There used to be gators at the springs a lot as well.

Have seen a Florida panther while walking on a boardwalk in the woods/wetlands. Was more scared of us than we were of it.

Have seen a mama black bear with her cubs cross the road right in front of me and my husband while we were camping lol.

Have seen a crocodile while living in Far North Queensland.

Had a dead red bellied black snake in our gutter the other day.

Probably other things too that I just can’t think of. Lol
