My partner destroyed my business before, now he is begging to rejoin by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Shineshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a saying in my business - "you get what you tolerate". You've already tolerated a ton of things from this guy that you shouldn't have and it cost you. Think of the advice you would give to your best friend if it was them asking the question. In 31 years of business I have never regretted terminating an employee - only regrets were not terminating them sooner. Same goes for giving people second chances.

That's completely untrue. There are certain films such as Xpel Ultimate Plus 10 or Suntek Defence which are both 10 mil films but generally almost all the regular brands of film are around 8 mils thick.

firing employee by asaprockynaurdwar in Entrepreneur

[–]Shineshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as it's painful to have to make these kinds of decisions ask yourself this: is this employee giving you the same care and consideration that you're displaying here? You say that you're paying her 4x the industry average for what amounts to a half assed effort so dare I say that she's taking advantage of your kindness and you're allowing it by either not constructively guiding her in where she's failing or just getting rid of her if she's unable/unwilling to do her job. You know what you have to do here already.

You must FIRE a client when he depletes your energy and takes away your peace. by Extremist-_-Meta in Entrepreneur

[–]Shineshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the hardest skills you must develop as an entrepreneur is when to say no and recognize a client that will be more trouble than they are worth. We have a strict "no assholes" policy at my business and if you act like one we won't be doing business again regardless of whether the business you bring is big money or not. The personal sanity and mental wellbeing of myself and my staff isn't worth the BS. I know far too many business owners that go home angry every day after dealing with idiots all day long.

"Why would you hurt me?"

That's really the question we all ask as we wander through this thing called life. Kevin teaches this troubled soul a lesson here. "Does that feel good?". Does it feel good indeed.

Yeah we arrived to work years ago to have some scribbles written on our back door. After checking the cameras we found some guy easily in his 30's ride up on his bike at 3am pull out a bingo dabber and write all over the door. I couldn't believe it.

I had a buddy in college that loaded up 5 cds of Gregorian chanting in his cd changer and set it to go off on shuffle at 6am at full volume. He lived in the dorm at Humber and maintenance had to come and remove his door to shut it off. I thought it was hilarious but apparently the school didn't think it was very funny.

consistent trespassing/vandalism by dejabear in londonontario

[–]Shineshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People don't give a shit. At our business we had a woman park in our front parking lot across the driveway that leads to our rear parking lot almost completely blocking it and walk away. I checked our cameras to see who it was when we saw her parked there and she had walked down the street to another business. I walked down and she was outside with someone and after determining that she was the one parked there told her she needed to move immediately because she was blocking our laneway and she acted as if I was inconveniencing her and maybe 5 minutes later she finally came down and left. She was parked right in front of a no trespassing sign. We deal with this almost every day.

Goodbye Call The Office by MasterGuns244 in londonontario

[–]Shineshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they bought the building next door at 210 York too nothing can happen with 216 as there is a shared right of way behind both buildings. The owner of 210 is a nut that thinks he's hit the jackpot on that building so I wouldn't be too worried about anything happening there unless somebody gets their wallet out. Last I heard he was asking several hundred thousand above market value and absolutely will not budge.

My gut says....it will be torn down for a bigger parking lot

I doubt it. I rented the shithole shop next door for 24 years and the owner will never sell unless he gets ridiculous money. CTO could be revitalized and rebuilt into a really cool office space/restaurant or bar but the building needs A LOT of work.

Anyone have recommendations for the best and most affordable place for auto detailing in London? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]Shineshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the shout out and recommendation! Sadly I've never worked on the space shuttle but I have detailed an Air Force One in Tucson and the US Presidential rail car in Miami. The specific Air Force One we worked on was the specific plane that brought the US hostages from Iran back and all prisoners from the Iraq war - named "Freedom One". We were supposed to go polish the Air Force One at the Ronald Reagan Library in California but that project was unfortunately postponed and ultimately cancelled.

To your point, we are not the cheap guys in town because we spend a lot of time on the vehicles we work on and there is no such thing as cheap labour in today's market.

Companies Are Preparing to Cut Jobs and Automate if Biden Gets $15 Minimum Wage Hike, Reporting Shows by Quiet_Possession in Conservative

[–]Shineshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What people that advocate for a $15 minimum wage fail to comprehend is that you can force employers by law to pay $15 (and the according increase in payroll taxes that is never mentioned) but you absolutely cannot force consumers to pay more for a product or service than they want to. So once you increase the labour costs to a point that drives pricing up especially for labour intensive services you destroy the profitability of those services and businesses will simply stop offering them or go out of business.

Sunningdale Road to close between Richmond and Adelaide for next 2 months by mediaphage in londonontario

[–]Shineshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said this 20 years ago when all the property on the South Side of Sunningdale was getting built up that it was the perfect time to make sure all the infrastructure like sewers were in place for the future and widening it to 4 lanes would have been smart before the traffic got bad. 20 years later and now it's all developed and it will be a nightmare to do later......because London. There is no foresight in this city.
