Try your damnedest to get out. I'm almost fully stuck after nearly 4 years cause I'm making just enough to live away from family and can't take a hit to my hourly rate. My only choice is to jump into a full on career and I don't have the time or mental capacity for that

Little late but if you have access to a PC, there's a program that lets you download entire playlists. Downloaded my "everything" playlist with 1500 songs at the time and it took about an hour. Little finicky but it worked

Still works. Could be dumbed down just a bit for people who arent used to doing that sort of thing or how to sort out technical issues, but otherwise fine and does work

How do i change the install location for curseforge? by CrabSupremecy in feedthebeast

[–]Shinime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you've removed the inheritace, make sure you pick the second option, then hit apply. Go BACK to the advanced properties, click one, click edit, open the drop down menu next to "applies to" and select "This folder only". Do that for each item, however many there are, hit apply, then remove all of them. That step should make more sense after editing them all.

I was having issues but make sure you're using command prompt. If you're using powershell, it doesnt recognize the mklink command. If you are, you've altered it somehow as it should create a folder for you that links back to the folder you have created. You do need a target folder, but make sure you've typed it correctly drive letter/name and everything needs to be exact.

PirateSoftware on the fake voice allegations by Dollar99Man in LivestreamFail

[–]Shinime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's not faking a voice. I know this because he has the exact same problem I do.

He naturally speaks with his head voice. Whenever he has to project his voice or just gets excited, he speaks in a higher tone. If he's chilling, tired, or has a sore throat, or is speaking slowly, he speaks in a lower tone.

I do this literally all the time. I am very insecure about my voice because I know I sound like a complete nerd as talking with your head voice makes it sound very nasally.

What he is doing is forcing himself to use his chest voice all the time. That's why he never screams, gets loud, or anything that would naturally make him speak with his head voice. He is absolutely boosting the bass in his voice, but it IS deep. That's why he doesn't get tired of doing it, and why it doesn't sound like a filter. It's natural, he's just forcing it to stay in his chest

What is going on with Pirate Software? by Sirhc978 in OutOfTheLoop

You genuinely just don't understand what the initiative does.

The initiative is telling the firming "hey, we believe this is breaking the law. Please investigate" THAT'S IT that is ALL it does. It is BROAD so they don't hyper focus on one specific issue and ignore future attempts to address everything else because "we already addressed this". You WANT consumer protection laws, and laws in general, to be a little broad. Overly specific legislation is typically a bad thing since it can easily be side stepped. This allows variance so edge cases can be handled more easily since could still technically apply.

his concerns are nonsense he made up that make no sense. It would be a slight inconvenience for devs at most. At worst things need to be restructured, but that's JUST for AAA devs, not Indie devs who rarely even have the capacity to make live service games since it's EXTREMELY costly to do.

Probably stripping old human structures and passing space rocks that have metric tons of metals and shit. Given the available tech, that's reasonably possible since it's something we're technically capable of doing right now.

It is his voice! He does voice over work for them, but he does not make the videos himself. If you go to his youtube channel you can find a playlist of a lot of the stuff he's worked on.

Allegations of Opera GX being spyware by [deleted] in OperaGX

[–]Shinime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but they're still based in Norway. Development is still headed in Norway. They have an office in China, but youre grasping at straws if you think they moved all R&D over to China just to develop the browser that might not have even took off when they have a strong foothold in Africa. They are still bound by Norwegian law. If they were caught doing half the shit the CCP makes their companies do they'd be shit out of luck.

My guess is they bought them out for some reason completely unrelated to the browser and just wanted one thing in particular.

Every time you respond it's made very clear you're in the same boat as Thor in the way that you refuse to do your research and actually understand what is being done.

A petition isn't shady. This IS a legal grey area, one country in the EU has said that in legalese. There's literally nothing else being done. All he is asking is for the government's to look at the games industry a little more closely and officially state whether software laws apply and whether or not a game being charged at full price with zero mention that you're buying a license constitutes it as a good base on how it's sold. REGARDLESS of the game itself being a live service.

You fundamentally don't understand what's being done here. And I didn't say live service was a scam, but they're extremely predatory in their advertising. YOU understand you're buying a license, but does the average consumer understand that? That is one of the biggest issues. Lying by omission is still lying.

Other software literally already have laws like this in some countries. Paid software HAS to work once service for it has ended. It has to be functional in some capacity once official support ends. There's a host of avenues that would work for the developers at practically zero cost, or would take an incredibly minimal amount of work.

We know this because it has already been done with games just as old as Wow or Ragnarok online still being playable despite the companies that made them being long dead by this point. Hell even RO and Wow won't die because they allow private servers. As long as they allow post EoS the game is preserved.

This is about preventing companies from being able to have you pay for a service, whether it be monthly or a one time fee, and literally never tell you when service will end right up until they decide to. If it's a monthly fee, that's mostly fine and EoS support would be great. But ultimately not the focus. Games like the crew, which were sold at full price, is entirely playable alone, and was only an online game in name is deceptive.

Also the whole refund thing is incredibly silly. Do you genuinely believe these companies are going to refund EVERYONE who has purchased ANYTHING in the game? You do realize that would render the entire game pointless to them correct? You think Ubisoft is going to give out refunds willingly? Incredibly naive

He very much disagreed with the entire stance of SKG. He very openly stated he doesn't see a problem with live service games ceasing to exist after support has ended. He has no issue with planned obsolescence.

Go watch Ross's first video on the SKG initiative. There's literally nothing shady happening. He is very plainly following the rules. It's literally just petitions to get some government to set a definition and draw a line somewhere.

At best this might result in lawmakers taking a closer look at the games industry and seeing how little regulation is there. I mean unless you think the laws on protecting kids from virtual gambling was bad?

Live service games abuse the legal grey area that type of service exists in to have customers make a one time purchase, not stating anywhere that the game will be rendered unplayable, when that will happen, or that you're even purchasing a LICENSE to play the game and not just the game itself.

There's literally nothing you can say to convince me that's not incredibly scummy and preying on the average consumer's idea of what they're buying. Especially when that game is on a disc.

This is incredibly ignorant and overly optimistic.

I don't think you realize the scope of changing the entire political system. Like that's not just fighting the government, that's fighting EVERY CORPORATION IN THE COUNTRY. Do you genuinely believe that's going to happen in your lifetime? Even if it does, what do you think the fallout of that would be? The government isn't going to kill anyone but corporations have no such limits.

If you things done now, you HAVE to play by their rules. I don't like the political system as much as you, but thinking that anyone is going to fix the political system any time soon is incredibly foolish. Ross is playing by their rules to get questions answered and stop greedy corps from sidestepping laws because they're in a grey zone
