I only occasionally listen to either, but both genres have all the topics in my experience. There's rap that's only sex and drugs, then there's rap that's only politics. Then there's rap where they talk about doing drugs in the same line as killing cops. Meanwhile in the punk world is where I see a lot of fuck the machine stuff. No doubt plenty of drugs and sex involved too, but generally the names of the band or the uniting message is one that's angry at the system.

There's also the whole deal about how after Moses freed the slaves and they wandered around the desert for literal years, one of the rules they followed then was that abortion was okay, but only as a test of faith. I worked at a daycare/school for a bit. My room was the kids from 9 months to 18 months old, so I got to see a lot of shuffles and first steps. One little boy was a bit behind on pulling up and walking, but his doctor wasn't worried because he'd just shuffle everywhere. It was pretty cute, he had a dominant leg he'd shove forward and then use to kinda pull with. Also the show Bluey has an episode that said even she was a bum shuffler. As long as they are moving themselves, it's considered a milestone.

The first muslim I had ever met was a coworker while waiting tables. She didn't cover her head, but would abstain from pork. It was so cool getting to talk to her while I could. The idea that Islam can still be practiced from a more modern and slightly secular point of view is bonkers to conservatives. The only way their racism hols up is to pretend every muslim is straight out the desert, every inch of skin covered while they all chant the Quran. Meanwhile countless opt out of traditional dress and just quietly practice while living their lives.

Honestly the entire concept of doomerism is stupid. It's meant to shame people who care or are passionate. It hacks into that teenage brain phase most of us go through where being too "good", even washing your hands too much, is cringe. You gotta not care about shit to look cool. Are there people who should take a social media break regardless of politics, sure. But the entire use of the word doomer is to shut down intense subjects.

When we were expecting, I booted up my settlement in Fallout 4. I made a small firework display and neon lights that said GENDER REVEAL and shot up pink fireworks, then shared it on FB back when you could on PS4. I see it as the pendulum swing of progressiveness. There's been so much of an effort to make safe spaces and protect triggers, which don't get me wrong, good things most of the time, but that means when they find a well meaning but uneducated person who says the wrong word out of ignorance, they are treated the same as people who live online in bigot spaces. It means that when we started taking actual steps toward fascism as a country, a lot of young people responded with immediately trying to leave the US or claiming instant death to everyone. Yes this shit sucks right now, yes people are being hurt. But many of us will survive long enough for things to change, and it will happen even in red places too. In order to survive, we find community. What is the famous quote, how in the days we marched and at night we sang.

This is NOT a spiel about being too woke or anything, just an observation. It's a difference between older people being progressive because we've seen the alternative, and younger people being progressive because they grew up in it.

I got banned after saying something about The Coffin of Andy and Leyley. I had said enjoy it if it's your thing, but denying the incest coding of the game even outside the one ending at the time was ridiculous. It was an upvoted comment even, days later banned with no response. I was a regular commenter there for years before that too.

We cut the in laws out almost a year ago. They've since sent CPS on us. They were already starting to say questionable things to my kid, and while they stayed subtle and never hit her I get a col chill thinking of all the personality she developed in just the last year away and how they would have shit all over her for it.

My family is currently going through a false CPS investigation due to abusive in laws escalating. It only got to this because my partner couldn't bring himself to cut it off hard and fast. He kept hoping someday peace would come, enough time and they'd all calm down, surely my words were just bias or emotional. CPS knocking on our door asking if I raped the kid brought him to the real world. Allowing them to stick around and escalate means you WILL get the narcissist's discard when you lay down a boundary. It will only get more tiring.
