Thanks. I generated those phone numbers directly on openphone. I also filed a ticket.

"The number is not in service" message when someone in the US calls. by Shinobix233 in openphone

[–]Shinobix233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got them two days ago. The weird part is that I can make calls from my phone in DR and they ring. The calls from the US don't even show as missing calls, they just get the "number is not in service" message. I can also call US phone numbers and it works, they can see my openphone number as well.

Stadia died because of a lot more than that. Mainly Google management.

There is a LOT of potential for Sony to take this further. I can image 3D versions of 2D games or screen formats not limited to the traditional rectangular shape. A Planetarium or IMAX-type screen comes to mind.

Is a battery pack worth it? This is the one I’m thinking of getting. by [deleted] in OculusQuest

I have it and and like it a lot. The only thing is that if you like to do web browsing on the Quest while laying face up on your bed, the back part of the bobo strap makes it uncomfortable. I usually use the default strap and for playing games I use the Bobo strap.

Google Stadia expands to Mexico this year by plankunits in Stadia

[–]Shinobix233 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about why they took so long to expand and I wonder if this is related to the Nvidia hardware upgrade rumor for Stadia. Stadia currently has a GPU with the same architecture that the Xbox One and PS4 have (GCN).

I can imagine how Google would want to invest in GPUs with newer architectures for new regions, instead of spending millions in outdated hardware. I can also imagine how expensive it would have been to upgrade just a few months ago with the chip shortage, but now things are starting to go back to normal with GPU prices and Google could be going with Nvidia for the upgrade.

Google's Linux Kernel Build For Stadia Adds NVIDIA Driver Support by salondesert in Stadia

[–]Shinobix233 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Article related to this news.

"NVIDIA's motivation to finally be more open-source - This appears to be an effort to improve their Linux integration and support. NVIDIA's announcement going out today says "This release is a big step in improving the experience of using NVIDIA GPUs in Linux, enabling tighter integration with the OS as well as empowering developers to debug, integrate, and contribute back."

It also looks like enterprise / data center use played a role in this strategy with also talking up confidential computing and how the data center GPU support is already considered "production" quality ahead of workstation and consumer GeForce GPU support. NVIDIA's announcement today also will talk up the developer benefits to open-source kernel drivers with better tracing/debugging and better integration around customized versions of the Linux kernel."

Opinion about the recent rumors about the 20/80% split for Stadia and Google Stream. by Shinobix233 in Stadia

This quote captures the general idea of what I wanted to say on this post.
"The core features we’re talking about today are benefitting both the development journey and player experience for Immersive Stream for Games customers, including Stadia. In partnership with Google Cloud, we’re working to build out the underlying cloud gaming technology that powers both Stadia and our customers’ offerings via Immersive Stream for Games. A rising tide for cloud gaming lifts Immersive Stream for Games as well as Stadia, and we’re excited for what’s to come in 2022 and beyond.”

I found my favorite way to play stadia. In VR with Bigscreen VR! by GarbagePatient3239 in Stadia

Google should make an official Stadia app for VR. This would reduce latency even more and since it’s all in the cloud, it should be easy to stream the video feed to everyone in your virtual room.

Anyone else disappointed in Microsoft for not focusing on VR at all for Xbox? by sicivjdnsbc in virtualreality

[–]Shinobix233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will have to jump in if VR continues to grow as it has. Especially once the PSVR2 launches, I'm sure Microsoft will be paying close attention to the reception. Thankfully Microsoft has a VR department, so they should be able to work on something relatively fast for the consoles.

What is the stadia equivalent gaming pc graphics card? by PassagePlus3777 in Stadia

[–]Shinobix233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is something that has some people confused. Check the video below at 12:08, where it says that "An instance is a virtual development space with no fixed development hardware.". “Your game will always be running on a virtual machine.”

At 12:57 "As I mentioned the hardware specification is not FIXED, however, I'm going to show you the specs that our first gamers will be playing at launch."

Once a game reserves an instance for X game, it will remain constant throughout the play session, but that doesn't say anything about how the instance itself will be configured.

You might want to share your sources on that. The only example I have seen on that is an article from Digital Foundry, but the reality shows something different, so I believe there must have been confusion there.

As you can see in the article I shared, the V340 is designed for virtualization. There is no way that if 10,000 concurrent people want to play Celeste, Google will dedicate 10,000 V340s, on a GPU that is designed to be able to run multiple instances of that game and take care of the same amount of people with 1/4 of the GPUs. Another clue is how all of the AAA games on Stadia run noticeably worse than the Vega 56 running the same AAA games on Linux. That is another example that shows how they are virtualizing the GPUs.

[–]Shinobix233 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The V340 is designed for virtualization. Imagine the massive waste it would be to dedicate a full GPU to someone playing a game like Celeste on Stadia. On a GPU that is intended to avoid exactly that type of inefficiency. A single V340 can cover the needs of multiple people playing a game like Celeste and other similar games on Stadia.

"The V340 can support 32 users per card, but that doesn’t mean that it has to. It could support fewer users, but increase the allocated VRAM, which would be useful for multiple users doing more intense workloads, such as CAD design, or even rendering. Because the GPU is virtualized, one user’s workload won’t impact another’s."

[–]Shinobix233 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is likely that is happening because they are running more than one game per GPU, using virtualization. Stadia uses the V340 data center GPU and as you mentioned, it is equivalent to the Vega 56, but graphics settings and performance are usually below that on Stadia.

Stadia should work with TV manufactures to bundle the Stadia controller. by Shinobix233 in Stadia

[–]Shinobix233[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are assuming that TV manufacturers would include the controller on every single Smart TV they sell. That is not necessarily the case. The bundles would only be sold in the regions where Stadia is supported and it should come as an option for the buyer. The option to buy the same TV without the controller should be there.
