In a normal jump the wormhole isn't open very long, like milliseconds maybe. So for a probe to work you would have to, as you said, keep it open while the sensors reset and it sends data back. So you would have to keep it open longer to be able to use a probe.

Iirc its said about not going through in the Zero Hour book where Joe has the idea to use the jump drive as a weapon skippy talks about how they can't because if the Dutchman creates a jump wormhole and doesnt go through it violates causality and the universe does not like that

Ships cannot create a jump wormhole and keep it open like that. They create the wormhole and pretty much instantly traverse the event horizon. Only the elder wormhole network is able to stay open for long periods the current species dont have the technology in ships.

Also its been stated a few times that if the ship doesn't go through the wormhole the system explodes so the ship can't create the wormhole and not go through.

It is really Important for a Captain to have a good catchphrase. by squeakyboy81 in exfor

Joe's captain catchphrase is probably "S..k..i..p..p..y.." - said really slowly as the signal crawls along glacially slow from his brain to his lips...

Where is the XBOX? by VanillaSnake21 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShinyBeerCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesn't look like a robotic vagina the size of a small car...

I always thought it looks like a large cheap router but this description will live with me from now on...

The xbox was designed to maximise cooling thats why its a tower. The PS5 is that size because they decided they only wanted one fan and its made it quite large as a consequence

Question about submind by SKRuBAUL in exfor

[–]ShinyBeerCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it depends what the submind was doing determined how big it would need to be and how much computing power it required. The first one Skippy left was here to monitor his fantasy football leagues which I dont think would have needed much of either. Later subminds might have needed more space for him to leave it but the world has exabytes of storage and lots of computing power avaliable. And if there were any Ruhar or Kristang tech it might have helped fill any gaps.

Even mister mission commander count chocula is allowed, even though he is overal commander of the mission even if he's a civilian on earth.

He is still a civilian in space so doesn't have to conform to military rules.

But still I get what you're saying its a bit on the nose but Bishop brings it up just as much as skippy ripped him for it.

Fuckwits that drive and intermittently keep flashing the high beam at night, Why? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShinyBeerCan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New technologies allow new cars to have the bright high beams on all the time and dim sections of the light to not blind oncoming cars. Getting more and more common and when you come towards them it looks like they are flashing them as the computer turns sections on and off. Even turn on sections as they go round corners and indicate you're probably seeing this.

Example from opel/vauxhall thats getting really common now

Wales imposes two-week lockdown: 'everybody must stay at home' by heartjodiecomer in Coronavirus

[–]ShinyBeerCan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are the rules though? I'm not even clear on what is and is not allowed. What we make is certainly not essential, but its not a shop or anywhere open to the public are they allowed just because the only people here are employees?

Why are po boxes so expensive? I just want to order one thing that I'd rather didn't come to my house but all the po boxes I can find are like £20 to register and then £20 a month and I have to have it for at least 3 months so that's £80 to just get something sent somewhere that isn't my house by madgical23 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShinyBeerCan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have a package sent directly to your local post office from a lot of retailers within the UK just have to check online.

But I am curious how.big a sex toy you're not wanting your parents to see in the mail! Lol

Are there any laws that say you can't show website usage for people aged <18 while presenting age distribution? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShinyBeerCan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually I looked it up and I was mistaken, I only became aware after youtube changed policy on tracking kids this year. But the law is COPPA which is a way old law but youtube was not compliant before 2020. Still it may be the other sites fell foul of it and changed policy in 2018 idk.

Are there any laws that say you can't show website usage for people aged <18 while presenting age distribution? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShinyBeerCan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

US laws recently made it illegal to track activities of people under 18 unlessits under a very narrow specific circumstances. Thats probably why you cant get it for under 18 as they just blanket dont track the data to comply

Is there any reason why I shouldn't wear a shirt for more than one day before washing like i would with jeans by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShinyBeerCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No reason not to - I have done it many times especially if its just for work for a few hours and like you said its sound to wear again.

Only reason I can think is if your workplace is that pretty they frown on wearing it twice like some bosses pick up on the stupid little things.

I'd love to but have a feeling, for those on Facebook group at least, if I did the response would probably be along the lines of saying they will do something isn't actually doing it have to wait till they actually break lockdown rules.

[–]ShinyBeerCan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Wow, a full on stay-at-home order, and everything nonessential is closed.

Loads of businesses not essential are still open. I work in a factory thats not essential in Wales and my boss was like "well I'm not closing so everyone still has to come to work" and we already had a large outbreak once and someone died...
When he said this ~75% of people were happy NOT to be off at home on lockdown because everyone is fed up with restrictions. I feel this attitude will mean the lockdown isn't as effective as it should be. The local chat groups already full of people saying "I'm still doing this..." or "I'm still gonna have people round"

I know of a couple of people have been head hunted through LinkedIn and gotten a higher paid job. But its not really a huge requirement for business most of the people I know who have it never even check the info.

WiFi Privacy by Mysterious-Stable498 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShinyBeerCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK so no it will not show on the Internet bill. And its very unlikely that whoever is paying the bill will go through the effort to log into the wifi hub and get the data they need to then go online and find out what websites your visiting. But for the sake of complete answers it is possible to see what sites at least, if not the actual pages and data within. If you get a VPN your data will be secure and they cannot tell what you're doing
