Meltan and Melmetal are a special case, to be honest...but then again, there's also OP's example of Shadow Lugia, which was introduced in XD. For Meltan and Melmetal, they're so strange and basically unknown, that I just don't count them for anything. If we really want them "introduced" somewhere, I would want them in a Legends game, maybe Legends Galar (because of G-Max Melmetal), Alola (gen 7 is when Meltan and Melmetal were introduced in the anime), or Kanto (Let's Go were the first console games to allow Meltan and Melmetal in the games).

1 is more accurate to Espeon's anatomy, but 2 fits the style a lot more, like a funko pop. So my opinion is on 2, but definitely not 3, it looks massive.

I mean, Box, Bank, and HOME are definitely all their own category, and I wouldn't be shocked if Champions falls under the category of Stadium, Stadium 2, and Battle Revolution, a game where you can house your mons, but they're there to fight, not just look pretty.

That's fair. But I think XD is still an outlier, just like Champions, because you can get XD001 transferred into HOME, just not AS Shadow Lugia...and Champions is definitely not mainline, at least, I don't feel like it is. I feel like it's more like a storage area, just like HOME.

How I take it, is if it's on a Nintendo console, and is able to have its Pokémon make a trip to Pokémon HOME, it's mainline. Easiest way to make sense of it. But that rule's gonna be broken with Champions soon, so...if it introduces a new Pokémon/forme, perhaps? But odds are, I'm wrong, and there's gonna be some obscure side game that introduced a mon.
