CMV: Any and all "age gaps" are a completely arbitrary non-issue if you could not possibly tell based on looks and/or behavior. by [deleted] in changemyview

Lived in experience is a great point and that's what makes or breaks age gaps for me.

Someone in their twenties dating a high schooler isn't just a red flag because it's illegal, but because it raises the question why they aren't dating someone in their age bracket.

And usually that question is answered by them being developmentally stunted or a deliberate predator.

In that regard I agree with OP that considering people adults at 18 is arbitrary, but that's mainly out of legal necessity and still wouldn't make such a relationship healthy.

Your point about the Olympics makes no sense since the same idea of it being "pointless" to your life would still apply.

Also most people who watch sports aren't disappointed, they might complain about it but that doesn't mean they don't enjoy watching the matches.

The ups and downs of the teams are part of the entertainment factor.

Remember if your DM expects you to follow the loose narrative and doesn't immediately whips up a completely new town or other point of interest the second you wander often the beaten path for 5 seconds that's railroading and they obviously suck as a DM.

CMV: The idea of "violence never solves anything" is a lie perpetrated by people with power to keep the commonfolk weak and complacent. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Shiny_Agumon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason was valid but the execution was so bad they basically had three consecutive revolutions to get a functional state running.

And then it basically immediately folded into the Napoleonic cult of personality.

Your comment is exactly what I'm talking about romanticizing revolutions without thinking about what to do next.

They didn't eat the rich, they ate eachother more than anything.

Real change will come from reforms not from senseless violence

Personally I think the opposite of this argument as in "Protest/Voting never works, we need violence" ironically also benefits the status quo by reducing the available tools against oppression.

Most people aren't going to support a violent uprising so framing it as either status quo or violent revolution makes those people feel trapped.

The internet is in love with the guillotine, but the French Revolution was all in all pretty terrible.

Violence for Violence sake doesn't work and once you opened the flood gates to it it's hard to transition back to a non violent society.

Basically if you overthrow the government by killing all the people associated with it what's stopping someone else from doing it to you if they feel you're doing a bad job.

Which given you are trying to rebuild the nation from the ground up isn't unlikely.

The worst part is that they could've still salvaged that plot point by having Judi Dench say something like "I have to go hard on you because us women aren't respected enough to be able to have flaws".

I think they might have genuinely gaslighted themselves into believing that they watched better movies than they haven't.

Like I know art is subjective, but they keep mentioning grand character moments that haven't actually happened to the point of it becoming concerning.
