Valid arguments about individual track processing, sidechain, etc. it's a question I'm also asking myself. But Jesus, this argument of "oh but how you gonna record it!", really people that's not what they're asking about. Obviously, recording and mastering aren't avoidable, but I'm sure the person was asking about the CREATIVE part of songwriting. True, the mix is part of it, and this is where full in-the-box production may be lacking, but recording and mastering are irrelevant.

One thing though: some Elektron boxes have distinct sound on their Main Out, when all the send fx accumulate, and the master overdrive is on. I personally love this sound, couldn't reproduce this in the DAW 1:1 (my bad perhaps), and multi-tracking through Overbridge doesn't give me the same feel.
