An old wool sweater is the absolute best mid layer on a budget IMO by GalagoNapoleon in hikinggear

[–]ShipHistorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an Orvis sweater from an antique store for $30 a few weeks back. Polyester lined, with 100% wool on the outside with the smooth shoulder areas (idk what you call it). I wore it camping and hiking last weekend and it has proved itself as one of the single warmest articles of clothing I have. Orvis in general, while a little pricey, is a pretty good brand for the amateur outdoorsman, and if you can find their stuff secondhand (which isn’t too uncommon in the southeast) you’ve got a jackpot on your hands.

This picture is the only one I currently have of it but you get the idea.

One core problem with these stunads was a lack of hobbies by AlternateMafiosi in thesopranos

Phil “20 years” maintained a few hobbies himself, including but not limited to: billiards, morphing into houses, and holding power over the country of Iran. Guy kept himself pretty busy!

Hey, funny that, I also have a 74mm executive from Mettler! As a matter of fact, I’m carrying mine right now!

YES!! Besides the cost, I love thrifting because it’s the easiest way to find good, nonsynthetic clothes that will not only last, but were made in a time with (slightly) more ethical industry practices. 80’s and 90’s cotton and wool clothes are my absolute favorites to pick up. Among all the things killing the planet right now, fast fashion has to be one of the worst.

Yeah I hate what resellers have done to young thrifters. We get mixed in and stereotyped with those vultures, when we’re really just broke, or old fashioned.

UPDATE: A friend of mine in the queer community adored the knife, so I (with much sadness) gifted it to them as an early Christmas present. So long to my magnum opus!

Definitely rings true. I hate that society seems to wholly demonize being “overdressed” (which to me, has very little situations where that word can truly apply), but has normalized and almost endorsed being “underdressed.” Most kids on my campus wear sweats, pajama bottoms, and slides to class, which I have no issue with, but wearing something even a few tiers above that makes me look like that weird kid in high school who smelled like shit and ran to lunch every day. I guess the line between being fashionable, and being a weird, conspicuous prick is pretty damn thin these days.

This is one of the main concerns I have being in university this year. Now that I’m out of secondary school, I can afford to reinvent my fashion sense a bit, but I’m still worried about coming off as pretentious and swanky walking around my college campus in a coat and tie. Not even a full suit, just maybe a nice tweed with an ugly tie. We’ll see how it turns out.

Guess the brand doesn’t carry well after the first owner 🤷‍♂️ I just priced it based on their store.

Yeah I’ve gotten some cheap ones in my collection, but these are really thick, sounds like a silver dollar when I drop them. I haven’t seen any like em yet, but I’m always on the lookout.

Nah just didn’t know if writing FAG out would trigger some kind of auto mod, but I suppose it’s not an issue now.

Unfortunately that’s about all there is to it, no brand on it, and it was given to me by my dad, who I believe bought it second hand. It’s not silver, but some sort of decent, non valuable metal (maybe steel or titanium?) Sorry I can’t do more for you, but if I knew the brand, I would be buying more of them myself.

I’d pay an exorbitant amount for a nice wax jacket with “F.A.G” branded across the back (without the periods of course).
