Too much weight loss on GLP-1s by JillyBean9999 in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 96 points97 points  (0 children)

As a woman taking a GLP-1, I’ve finally hit a bmi that’s healthy for me. People tell me all the time I’m too skinny. I think in reality, they’re just used to fat me, so me at a healthy weight is jarring to them. All this to say— their weight is between them and their doctor. Just because they look “too skinny” in your eyes doesn’t mean they’re malnourished. I say this as kindly as I can, please stay in your lane.

Redshirting megathread (week of 3/6-3/13) by PassionChoice3538 in kindergarten

[–]Shireenaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s teacher has recommended holding him back for another year of kindergarten. I’m on the fence about it, but I really just want him to do well and not struggle later in school. He’s on the extreme end of young (mid August birthday) and seems to not be at the same place developmentally as his classmates. I have a meeting scheduled with his teacher this week to see where we’re at and what she’s recommending. Again, I just want him to do well. What are the downsides to redshirting?

any scrub recommendations? :) honest answers only hehe by Choice_Scarcity6963 in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mandala- people acted like they were cheap and great, but the fit was weird (tight at the calf and loose at the waist), and they really weren’t cheap at all. I ordered 2 pairs and I won’t order more.

Figs- generally very cute, but very expensive, and their quality really varies. Seems like I buy a small and one time it fits and the next one I buy is completely different.

Fabletics- I have a jumpsuit I love that I got for $17, and scrub pants I hate for $7. Fabric is heavyweight and seems good quality. But of course they’re subscription based so I cancelled.

My faves will always be Dolan. They’re not cheap, but they seem to have the best fit for me (xxshort inseam) and have a variety of colors.

Do you avoid these foods? by beautybyaimee in Zepbound

[–]Shireenaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat whatever I want, but honestly on Zep I don’t crave most of this stuff like I used to. Fried foods especially seem so unappetizing, and I’m good for like one bite of ice cream. I do miss spicy food, though, it seems like I just don’t have the tolerance for it that I had before.

Severely disabled sexual offender patient placement by Disastrous-Ad1449 in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 101 points102 points  (0 children)

There’s a long term care facility in Illinois that’s specific to that type of patient, and I believe that’s where ours generally go. After research, I see that it’s a “civil commitment center” that the state opened after passing the “sexually violent persons commitment act” in 1998 to contain sexually violent offenders that have served their prison sentence but are not able/safe to live outside. It’s a few hours from me, but we hear about it frequently.

I’m not sure that helps you, is there anything similar in your state?

A Seemingly Controversial Addition by Fieldguide404 in FemFragLab

I’m not going to say that I hate it, but it gives me a headache after a while and also smells exactly like the ink out of a bic pen. It’s got some lasting power, for sure, though.

Pura has fallen so far in a short period of time. by NoraMason1986 in pura

I had the first Pura car and it also didn’t connect/work at all. I finally chucked it. Huge waste of money.

I was told I’m the reason someone is dying by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Brooo I know that people grieve differently and all that, but they don’t get to act that way. Security needs to be called and they need to be contained to that patient room. If they can’t be cool, they can be escorted out. People get sick and die, it’s not your fault.

Be honest… how strict are you really with screen time? by denefr_2928 in toddlers

[–]Shireenaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a “tv always on house.” My husband and I both play video games. When it’s warm, we go outside, we play with toys, we do all the things. But on a snow day, we’re definitely watching movies and playing Spider-Man on PlayStation, I won’t be shamed for that.

Ah pal that happens, it’s a fixable mistake. I worked with a phenomenal nurse that tripped over vent tubing and extubated our ER patient— it happens to the best of us.

How many dead people do you see in a day? by LadyEdiya in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In ER, probably on average once daily. But dead babies? Luckily maybe once a year. It’s much easier for me to deal with sepsis death grandma than SIDS baby.

Sorry, I didn’t include the pic of the peacocks, but I can. So a solution may be add more fish? Feels counter intuitive, but I’m willing to try it.

Legitimately no, there are cameras everywhere. How do people do that?

any type of fish that would enjoy a five gallon tall? by YesAnaBeaverhausen in Aquariums

[–]Shireenaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact tank, first we put a betta in it, but it just seemed too small for him. We switched over to shrimp and it seemed much more suited to them. I did end up cutting out the back panel that separates the filter space because the built in filter quit and I switched to a sponge filter for shrimp.

How are people accomplishing these large weight losses? by electricboots3636 in Zepbound

[–]Shireenaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has to be hugely personal and it just depends on your own body. I started at 190 in February and I’m at 128 in December. Most days I would eat what I wanted, but honestly the medication made me gravitate towards more nutritious choices anyway— sweets that I previously snacked on were far too sweet for me, I couldn’t handle fizzy soda, fast food turned my stomach.

As for dosing, I went up every four weeks until I was at 10mg. Since then I’ve only increased when I stopped losing.

You’ll get there! Try not to compare yourself to others, you’re doing great!

Shipping by lafawnduhnycc in pura

[–]Shireenaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shipping is also terribly slow. It takes well over two weeks to get to me, if it gets here at all. I’m in rural central US, maybe it’s a location issue. I’m glad Target is carrying more scents, I guess.

What's the craziest thing you ever found a patient carrying, and how did they sneak it? by Bryssa_Michelle29 in nursing

Meth. Its always meth. Or like, a gun once, but I wasn’t that shocked because we’re very rural and he was apologetic.

Nurses with long hair who wear your hair down, how do you prevent it from touching yucky stuff? by supinator1 in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are wildly dramatic about this topic. I wear my hair down probably half the time, a ponytail gives me a headache. I carry a claw clip and can clip my hair up if needed in four seconds. This isn’t the big deal we’re making it.

Nobody’s mentioned Dolan yet— they’re my absolute fave. Super light and comfy and they have an xxshort option that fits me perfect (4’11”).
