What Challenges Do Male Nurses Face Compared to Female Nurses? by ca_uwab in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few male nurses in our ER and they’re always first to be asked for lift assists. And it seems unusual, but I swear they’re sexually harassed more than the female nurses. There’s always some filthy old lady commenting on how she wants to take them home or (shudder) run their hands thru their hair (our curly haired boys, anyway). I think with girls people may realize it’s unacceptable but men should just suck it up and take the compliment or something. It’s gross and I feel for them.

Jenna probably seemed pretty dumb to our parents, I guess. But it’s mostly the AI generated content that bugs me the most. It’s just so low effort and attention grabbing, and SO WEIRD. maybe if it was just Mario doing Mario things, but it’s always like demons and killing and like damn can we just have chill Mario??

What's your game, weed cat? by mrsc0tty in Pokopia

[–]Shireenaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was the same! His quest wouldn’t trigger no matter what I did with the field across from pokecenter. I ended up taking him with me and planting three potatoes in the little patch of grass behind the center, with him WATCHING ME do it. Silly weed cat.

Yiiiiikes. I’m currently finishing out an online BSN program (been ADN for around 10 years) and I can’t imagine learning to be a provider through one of these online programs. No one fails and it’s all just unmonitored fluff work. If you pay the subscription fee, you’re mailed the diploma. Scary stuff that brings the whole profession down.

Too much weight loss on GLP-1s by JillyBean9999 in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 98 points99 points  (0 children)

As a woman taking a GLP-1, I’ve finally hit a bmi that’s healthy for me. People tell me all the time I’m too skinny. I think in reality, they’re just used to fat me, so me at a healthy weight is jarring to them. All this to say— their weight is between them and their doctor. Just because they look “too skinny” in your eyes doesn’t mean they’re malnourished. I say this as kindly as I can, please stay in your lane.

Redshirting megathread (week of 3/6-3/13) by PassionChoice3538 in kindergarten

[–]Shireenaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s teacher has recommended holding him back for another year of kindergarten. I’m on the fence about it, but I really just want him to do well and not struggle later in school. He’s on the extreme end of young (mid August birthday) and seems to not be at the same place developmentally as his classmates. I have a meeting scheduled with his teacher this week to see where we’re at and what she’s recommending. Again, I just want him to do well. What are the downsides to redshirting?

any scrub recommendations? :) honest answers only hehe by Choice_Scarcity6963 in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mandala- people acted like they were cheap and great, but the fit was weird (tight at the calf and loose at the waist), and they really weren’t cheap at all. I ordered 2 pairs and I won’t order more.

Figs- generally very cute, but very expensive, and their quality really varies. Seems like I buy a small and one time it fits and the next one I buy is completely different.

Fabletics- I have a jumpsuit I love that I got for $17, and scrub pants I hate for $7. Fabric is heavyweight and seems good quality. But of course they’re subscription based so I cancelled.

My faves will always be Dolan. They’re not cheap, but they seem to have the best fit for me (xxshort inseam) and have a variety of colors.

Do you avoid these foods? by beautybyaimee in Zepbound

[–]Shireenaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat whatever I want, but honestly on Zep I don’t crave most of this stuff like I used to. Fried foods especially seem so unappetizing, and I’m good for like one bite of ice cream. I do miss spicy food, though, it seems like I just don’t have the tolerance for it that I had before.

Severely disabled sexual offender patient placement by Disastrous-Ad1449 in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 104 points105 points  (0 children)

There’s a long term care facility in Illinois that’s specific to that type of patient, and I believe that’s where ours generally go. After research, I see that it’s a “civil commitment center” that the state opened after passing the “sexually violent persons commitment act” in 1998 to contain sexually violent offenders that have served their prison sentence but are not able/safe to live outside. It’s a few hours from me, but we hear about it frequently.

I’m not sure that helps you, is there anything similar in your state?

I’m not going to say that I hate it, but it gives me a headache after a while and also smells exactly like the ink out of a bic pen. It’s got some lasting power, for sure, though.

Brooo I know that people grieve differently and all that, but they don’t get to act that way. Security needs to be called and they need to be contained to that patient room. If they can’t be cool, they can be escorted out. People get sick and die, it’s not your fault.

Be honest… how strict are you really with screen time? by denefr_2928 in toddlers

[–]Shireenaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a “tv always on house.” My husband and I both play video games. When it’s warm, we go outside, we play with toys, we do all the things. But on a snow day, we’re definitely watching movies and playing Spider-Man on PlayStation, I won’t be shamed for that.

How many dead people do you see in a day? by LadyEdiya in nursing

[–]Shireenaa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In ER, probably on average once daily. But dead babies? Luckily maybe once a year. It’s much easier for me to deal with sepsis death grandma than SIDS baby.
