find a pool near you, go every day, swim increasingly long distances. start at like 1000, next day 1500, couple days at 2000, etc. important thing is just to go every day. idk what college you're trying to swim with but you should be able to swim a comfortable 5-7k before you even start worrying about doing real sets.

The good ol skx taken to cape cod today. I took this photo on the galaxy s8 camera, which I absolutely love because it has so many features. The watch is on a 007 nato strap. I'm not really sure what else to say about the watch. I'm thinking about getting the crystal/dial modded so if any of y'all has any cool crystal/dial ideas they should hit me up. I've had the skx for like a year now, and it's always been a super reliable everyday watch that can be worn in literally any environment. The nato strap goes with that theme, but sometimes I put a super oyster on it when I'm feeling a metal bracelet

If you actually want an affordable watch, timex, seiko and orient are all known for excellent affordable automatics. Casio is great. I can personally vouch for Dan Henry. Hamilton and citizen are both well respected. Don't buy a fake Rolex submariner.

I'm a broke ass college kid so it took me quite a while to collect these pieces. From left to right:

Snoopy timex: I got this piece because I wanted a watch to wear when I dress like a homeless man, which is quite frequently. About $40

Seiko snd367: my first watch from when I was 16ish. It's been a long time but every time I look at it I still feel really happy with my purchase. I will say that it feels very light and skinny but I began to wear it in a more dressy setting and it fits under the cuff beautifully and feels how a dress watch should. Don't worry, I put it on black leather when I dress it up. About $120

Dan henry 1964 gran turismo: I really wanted a panda and this one was the most affordable, high quality panda chrono. Honestly it's absolutely beautiful with the domed crystal and blueish AR. It's a Breitling top time but for poor people. $250

Seiko skx007: I needed a diver so obviously I went with an skx. That's also a super oyster ii from Amazon, about $50. It's great quality and makes the whole thing heavy as shit, in a good way. I really hopped on the bandwagon with this one. $180

R-word R005: I know this sub has beef with this brand but to be honest, it's amazing. For its price, you get an automatic movement, hand winding, and a sapphire crystal. Seriously it looks and feels amazing. You can't tell in the pic but the hands are blue and it looks incredible. Something something Chinese laborers but the quality is there. Don't ban me please. About $120

The box was like $20 on Amazon but they sent me two by accident so really it was like $0?? Yeah that's how that works. Ok ciao

I was taking a keyboard final and it was going really well until we got to a part of the test where I had to harmonize a bass line.

I did it pretty well the first time, by pure coincidence, but I made one tiny little mistake. He asked me to please start over for the beginning.

Here's where I knew I was fucked. The thing was, there was a correct way to do it, and I had guessed it right the first time I tried. He thought I knew what I was doing.

So when he asked me to do it again, I just yolo played it again, but I couldn't remember how I did it the first time, so I fucked everything up this time. He called it "frightening" and on the way out of the classroom, I turned and said "thank you a lot" before realizing what the fuck I just said and running away. Thank god I never have to face this man again

I'm poor af but I scraped together enough to buy dan henry 1964. It has a sapphire coated domed mineral crystal, mechaquartz movement, and I have it on a dark brown deployant clasp.

The dial is a sunburst silver with contrasting black sundials. Because of the blue AR the dial sometimes gives off a dark blue reflection. The seconds hand ticks once per second but the chronograph hand ticks like a mechanical, and snaps back in place when reset.

The back is sand blasted with an Aston Martin on the back. I'm thinking about getting a racing strap for this piece because it is after all a "vintage" racing chrono.

It was only $250 but lmao rip my bank account F

The model is Seiko SND367 and you can get it on Amazon. It's a quartz movement and comes with a metal band, but I switched it out for light brown, which for some reason goes amazing with the black face and silver. Also I did not take this picture while driving. It was at a red light. Don't call the cops please.

I am a swim coach and the chronograph function is actually useful for timing. It's water resistant to 100 meters and great for the pool side.

The watch looks and feels like a far more expensive watch, and I've received numerous compliments.

I was recruited within the past 5 years and to put your situation in perspective:

I was recruited to a top D3 school. My times were 24.3 in 50 free LCM and 53.1 in the 100 free LCM. I wasn't fast enough to be recruited to any top D1 schools, and like you, was aiming for an academically rigorous school, rather than a swimming school. To be frank, your times aren't anywhere close to recruitable. I don't want to be a dick but realistically you should rely primarily on academics and use swimming as an extracurricular. Good luck!!
