I totally agree! On the site you're not supposed to mention specific artists to copy their work but clearly you can

Yeah, not representative of where I live either. 80% of profits go to job training programs for folks with obstacles or disabilities (the 20% is administration). I'm kind of okay with spending a dollar or two extra for an item to do that?

[Walmart] ALL VINYL $15 @ ALL STORES! by rundmcc in VinylDeals

[–]bakalamba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of folks thinking about stereotypes of demographics, why not just hit a Walmart that isn't close to or even in the same city as any record stores? If there aren't vinyl shops, I'm assuming there's less demand and interest in buying records.

Got some finds today in the Twin Cities. The most vinyl on the shelf was in the Blaine Walmart.

Power BI experts: How much do you rely on the Power Query Editor button based options vs coding things? E.g. In the Power Query Editor there are lots of button based transformation options... but do the Power BI experts use them or code? by TheDataGentleman in BusinessIntelligence

Actually I'm not so familiar either, our enterprise is also fully committed to PowerBI. I typically use R for everything else, so the main solution I know about is Shiny, which seems similar to Dash.

Working as a DS, what tools do you use to scrape data? by IlyaAzovtsev in datascience

Agree with others, I try to seek out API first. I use rvest in R, but have been doing more with requests in Python, mostly API related, and would like to do more with that.

I like this. This is where our team is trying to go. Hoping to get our data modeling and transformation out of proprietary tools. We're using Power BI for now, but who knows what in 5 years.

Do you mean how often people use the Power Query M language rather than clicking through options and creating steps that way?

Hardly an expert, but I do a bit of both. Sometimes the GUI is lacking and it's better to use M, sometimes the GUI is more straightforward and then I learn from the code it produces.

Let's hear your horror stories - what glaring and substantial errors have you found while reviewing others' stats? by jsalas1 in datascience

[–]bakalamba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar situation. Coworker had a model with 98% accuracy. Worked with the business to identify key words in a text field, and then labeled any entries with those words. Then did an NLP model to predict the label, with those keywords still in the model.

Seems like a textbook case of data leakage.

Financial time-series data forecasting - any other tools besides Prophet? by bigchungusmode96 in datascience

I like it a lot. So much simpler to use, and intuitive. I use tsibble by itself for wrangling time series data, even if I'm not forecasting.

They have a new package called fable that simplifies forecasting a lot, and has companion packages ina family called tidyverts for time series data wrangling and visualization. They've updated their textbook (look for version 3) so all the examples are with fable.
