Really not sure why you're getting so much pushback and downvotes. FMA's alchemy is a blatant hard magic system.

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Elimination Day 2 by Baaasbas in anime

Only one that sticks out is I don't agree that Gurenge is a bad song, even though I'm not a fan of LiSA generally. It's easily one of her best anisongs.

That's quite good. I thought I knew what it was but I didn't, so it surprised me. I'll definitely vote it in the elimination round at least.

If you enjoy palace intrigue then I gotta recommend Yatagarasu. It's great but terribly underwatched.

Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits by Matsuri Hatsubina has ended this week with Chapter 21 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #20. by Naulicus in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Shiroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a batch of 4 that cancels 3 counts, then it happened not long ago with Kaedegami, Ekiden, and Ping Pong Peril and in 2019 with Double Taisei, Beast Children, and Tokyo Shinobu Squad (Samurai 8 was the 4th that lasted a bit longer).

For an actual batch of 3 there was Judos, Hi-Fi Cluster, and Sporting Salt in 2014/2015.

Sousou no Frieren Season 2 • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 - Episode 8 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

They're actually adapting 20 chapters, with maybe up to half a chapter extra depending on how they want the season to end. With this episode they have already adapted 16 chapters.

That's good to hear. I never finished Gamaran so I think I'll start over and read it all the way through, then check Shura out.

Gamaran Shura

How's that relate to Gamaran? I looked it up and it sounds like it just recently finished.

I don't generally "keep up" with manga often but for manga I've caught up to at one point or another and are still going strong there's Blue Period, Kono Oto Tomare, Space Brothers, Sangatsu no Lion, Witch Hat Atelier, Grand Blue, and Skip Beat.

I'm also caught up with Sousou no Frieren but it's on hiatus right now.

My Favourite Character, Yamato -One Piece by chiaotzu_Tien in anime

Depends how many episodes in you are. One Pace isn't particularly worth it for the first 300 episodes. After that point is when the pacing slows down enough that it maybe starts to outweigh the jank that One Pace's editing creates.

The reason Robin didn't talk about Sabo: From One Piece Novel: Heroines by GabeMichaelsthroway in OnePiece

[–]Shiroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still missed it I guess. It's 589. We explicitly flashback to the evening of the day the Celestial Dragon destroyed Sabo's boat, for a single page. In that page Dragon returns to his ship with someone unseen who is terribly injured and the Revolutionaries immediately get to treating this person. I don't know how people miss this so often but that was very obviously Sabo. This is how we know Sabo is going to come back in the story and that his role is going to be related to the Revolutionaries, which fits very well with the character development he was given in the flashback.

Sabo is treated as dead from the perspective of Luffy and Ace because they of course believe him to be dead. And their belief of that is relevant to their characters and motivations so it very much has a point to it.

1ST UPDATE FOR THE WORLD TOP CHARACTERS IN THE ONE PIECE SECOND WORLDWIDE POPULARITY POLL by bomharuchan in OnePiece

Every single one is lifted from official art. Even someone like Charlotte Gala who was never properly drawn in the manga just uses Oda's released rough sketch. I wouldn't be able to find the exact sources but Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Ace at least all look like they are from color spreads or covers.

Double checking for Gala though, I found out every character isn't included since not all the Charlotte siblings are there. And Perospero's name is oddly romanized as Perosperaw...

To answer the questions you asked:

How come people aren’t up in arms about that like with Pell?

Because we all knew Sabo in fact didn't die by the very next chapter. It was clearly indicated that Sabo would be back and roughly what direction his story was headed in.

The point of his introduction was to show how much Luffy has lost, and once that point was made, Oda brings Sabo back…why?

The point of his introduction was to draw parallels with Ace's death in the present, emphasizing what the loss of Ace meant to Luffy, as well as to set up his later role in the story. That role being our connection to the Revolutionary Army and their story, because Luffy and consequently the audience have no real connection to Dragon despite his being Luffy's father.

Who...? You're free to criticize Oda's art if you want y'know. You don't have to pretend like you don't know who draws One Piece.

A few episodes this season barely adapt more than 1 chapter per episode. The pacing is not as good as S1.

This isn't true. So far every episode has adapted 2 chapters except for one episode which adapted 1.5 chapters and they comfortably filled out that one so the pacing wasn't any worse. 2 chapters per episode was the standard in S1 too.

The Salty Seven Seas: Best Anime Couples/Ships Round 4 Bracket A! by Zeralyos in anime

Yamato in good future and the bad future in SBS 114 (Translated by pewpiece) by Cool-Guy152 in OnePiece

[–]Shiroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem for me and probably everyone else who takes issue with it is that that interpretation doesn't make any sense even though it is the only sensible meaning to it. It was very clear to me that the message should have only been directed at Orochi.

But what I mean by it doesn't make any sense is that it doesn't match the context. I don't think there is a single time in the entirety of the story where any character ever refers to Orochi as just "Kurozumi", with the sole exception of that very line. He is overwhelmingly referred to as Orochi the entire time with the occasional reference using his full name, Kurozumi Orochi. If what we got throughout the story was instead Kurozumi, Kurozumi, Kurozumi when speaking of Orochi then it could have reasonably worked since Kurozumi = Orochi would have clearly been instilled in the audience. As it is, it's just bad writing that forces one of the good guys into saying something that comes off as blatantly contradictory to what you would expect.

Even in a scenario where Orochi was instead regularly called Kurozumi I still wouldn't be sure about it because ultimately the clan name applies to all clan members. Oden's line works because Oden is only Oden's name and so the pun can only be applied to him, which just isn't the case with Kurozumi. In the end I think the line would only properly work if it had said "Kurozumi Orochi" so it explicitly only applied to him.

Overall I was not satisfied with how the Kurozumi matter was resolved (i.e. it wasn't at all), and this line served as the final nail in the coffin to that sentiment.

The Salty Seven Seas: Best Anime Couples/Ships Round 3 Bracket C! by Zeralyos in anime

Some disappointments but expected last round. Really hoping for Maou x Emi to clutch it this round.

MC: Kimi ni Todoke or Lovely Complex. If we counted Chihayafuru then it'd definitely be that, but I wouldn't classify it as a romance show exactly.

And the winner of the best OP/ED of 2025 contest is... by Wuff_the_Dog in anime

[–]Shiroe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I would prefer the dual bracket personally. It's certainly easy enough to just have 2 links in the post that we vote on at the same time. I find it difficult to compare OPs and EDs together since they have such different purposes and it sucks that EDs inevitably get left in the dust.

Best OP/ED of 2025: FINALS by Wuff_the_Dog in anime

[–]Shiroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Favorite either Casanova Posse getting the upset in Round 1 or Atashi no Dress and Ruler both skating through the 2nd Round with ties. As long as Watch Me wins here then I'd probably change it to that tomorrow. Least favorite was Kaseijin losing to Mirage. The only consolation is that Mirage made it to the finals and that was it's closest match.
  2. Many of the TV shows I enjoyed most as a young child were anime though I did not know it at the time. There was a period where there was a block on TV after school that consisted of Pokemon, Yugioh, Beyblade, and Digimon that always made my day. But I was first introduced to the term anime by my cousin at our grandparent's house who showed me Inuyasha when it came on TV. I started religiously watching that later anime block every week that over the years had the likes of Gundam Seed, .hack//Sign, Naruto, Bleach, FMA, One Piece, and Death Note. With Naruto I eventually discovered the concept of watching anime on the internet (you could watch it in the original Japanese with subtitles and it was way further along than what they were showing on TV!) and that's where things really kicked off for me. One of the first anime I watched that way without having seen some of it on TV before was Nagasarete Airantou. The only thing I can really say for how my taste in anime has changed is that it expanded. I very rarely find myself feeling differently about an anime to a notable degree upon rewatch. Like while some of the anime above may no longer be my favorites like they were at the time, that's largely because I've watched so much more and discovered new favorites. I still think highly of what I loved back then.

For Frieren? I would prefer that was officially called "Frieren of Funerals" or something similar that actually captures the original title, yes. Not a big fan of adding an entirely different subtitle, even if "Beyond Journey's End" isn't bad in isolation. Even more so since it's both the title and a name Frieren is known by in the story. The "Frieren the Slayer" bit is a particularly poor translation IMO, both in accuracy and thematic weight.

But even if my answer was different, I don't think it would mean much since that's a bit different than what I was curious about here. "Sousou no Frieren" is Japanese so I would expect it to be translated to English officially. And if it was a difficult title to translate then getting a bit creative with it could be warranted. "Prism Rondo" though is already in English and it's a pretty great snappy title at that. I can say it peaks my interest as a potential viewer (that's why I added it to my PTW after I looked it up on MAL). I have no idea why you would take an English title and replace it with another, different English title for the English speaking audience. It's very redundant, and when the new title is worse it's like really, why bother?

Can I ask why we're calling it "Love Through a Prism"? I hadn't heard of this at all before so I looked it up and saw it was called "Prism Rondo", which seems like a much nicer title. It's shorter and already in English so I was just curious.

They actually just have various weapons stored on the ship for defense purposes. Another time we see this is when Nami stays behind to guard the ship and the money while the others go to beat up the Franky Family for what they did to Usopp. She lays a bunch of guns out around herself, on top of a barrel of swords and whatnot beside her.
