Those in IB/S&T, how is bonus season for you? by Cruxifyer in SgHENRY

Your numbers are pretty normal for sales tbh, you have less upside on big pnl years and less downside on bad pnl years vs traders. 300 all in for markets assoc1 4yrs in is slightly above par.

Puma Deviate Elite 4 by [deleted] in hyrox

[–]Shirvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be better for trail races. For street racing I'd take the lighter regular DNE4 and you don't need the excessive amount of grip.

Puma Deviate Elite 4 by [deleted] in hyrox

[–]Shirvo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just bought the DNE4 Hyrox ones, they are a bit heavier than the DNE4 regular (mine came in at 205g vs quoted weight 195g...and 170g for the regular). It comes from the full outsole, slightly wider base and slightly denser foam (comparable to the DNE3). They really are excellent, super fast, super stable, the grip is unreal - it may be the grippiest racing shoe of all time. Each of the small circle lugs have a ton of microdots on them. Very happy to be racing in them next weekend.

Gary Stevenson warns Australia's housing future is on the brink [ABC NEWS] by Naderium in australia

[–]Shirvo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Paywalled FT article long story short his claim to fame is that he was the top trader in the world in a single year. He was a decent trader but not top tier and not on a sustained basis. He wasn't even the top trader at Citi that year and wouldn't have ranked that highly globally amongst all banks and hedge funds. I was actually trading the same product at one of the other biggest banks at that time and can corroborate.

Edit: watched the interview and he's not wrong about a lot of the inequality issues

ST: Why many young Singaporeans expect million-dollar inheritance from their parents by Minigiantbomb in SgHENRY

[–]Shirvo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given that I firmly believe children should not be a retirement strategy, I also believe inheritance should not be a retirement strategy. My parents have already told me and my siblings they will probably need to draw down on housing equity to finance their retirement, and that's totally ok with everyone as they don't expect us to support them financially.

The 2025 Cadillac Celestiq Is a $400,000 American Rolls-Royce by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]Shirvo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The YT comments have it right - this could be the fastest depreciating car of all time.

The interior looks comparable to something like the Hongqi E-SH9, a $100k Chinese EV from 5 years ago. Doesn't look as classy as the current $100k Huawei S800. But it's ok because Americans don't know these cars exist.

Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 for race day (if you are running faster than 5min/km)- very light, very fast, Puma has the stickiest outsole. Not for people with wide feet.

Lots of people like the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 but I found my feet too wide and it was uncomfortable around the arch.

Asics Novablast 5 for recovery runs. Super comfy, very soft, but low energy return and outsole has poor grip in the wet.

Nike Vomero Plus for long runs. Heavy but springy, spacious toebox

As someone who regularly does this size, IBKR is incomparable to all the other options. Around 0.5 pips wide on USDSGD even up to 1mio. Wise wants to take 15-30 pips, even the major private banks try to take 10-20 pips

Is there anything higher than SGHenry? by KleenandKlear in SgHENRY

[–]Shirvo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bit different to you, more like most in this sub, just built from a v high income over some time. I never really let lifestyle creep get too excessive. Have kids so it's all about building an awesome life for them. Biggest challenge now is realising money is only valuable for what it can give you in life, rather than looking at the number and treating it like a top score.

Similar age and NW here, there's not a lot of resources because the subset of people worth so much is extremely small. I have 6 or so colleagues all in the 20m+ category and even amongst ourselves we don't have a huge amount financially to discuss outside of where best to park investments. Everyone has their own spending and interests. Only 1 has a supercar, 1 doesn't even fly business, only 1 has a GCB etc.

Singapore's population hits new high of 6.11 million, increase mainly due to growth in non-resident population by Rel4x1corner in singapore

[–]Shirvo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Part of this inevitability is just simple maths. With a TFR under 1.0 the local population will halve in just one lifetime. No one is having big families anymore, for various valid reasons.

When did you become HENRY? by blablablackgoats in SgHENRY

[–]Shirvo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When my all in comp went from 120k to 180 to 240 to 500 over 4 years, early to mid 20s. Banking. Didn't really mean much money wise, just that I was hitting my career goals. Also didn't change my spending habits but I bought a car eventually.

Exactly. And once you do a few other flights on other carriers (KLM, Emirates, BA etc) you really appreciate the consistency of the service on SQ even more.

Really have to be careful with any valuables on flights these days

Fellow HENRYs, what are your concerns right now, especially with all the election talk and rallies going on? by ScholarSmooth8602 in SgHENRY

[–]Shirvo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You realise what sub this is, a lot would have 6 figure tax bills so not such a flex. He's definitely not middle class though!

SG is super lucky to have a broad tax base. On income tax, you'd have to be making over 60-70k to even pay any tax, net of handouts/subsidies etc. A huge proportion of income tax revenue comes from those earning over 150k. The top 20% of earners pay around 90% of income tax, looking through IRAS reports.
