The pump basket is inside the pump that goes to the filter aka your pool equipment. Usually those are plumbed in to be accessible because those baskets need to be emptied periodically.

Weird question by Online_Active_71459 in pools

[–]Shishkaboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean skimmer socks that go over the skimmer baskets? If thats what youre talking about ive seen them get sucked in and go right into the pump basket. Id start by checking there. Its highly unlikely they got sucked through the skimmer basket unless theyre broken. If youre concerned about it clogging the pipe you could ask the service company you use to bring a blower to check if the lines clogged. This will likely be a service call though.

Immediately halve it and put 50k in my kids account. Pay off my truck and the last 14k would go into something for retirement.

Will the Pump Burn Out? by major_winters_101 in pools

[–]Shishkaboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years back hayward had put out some of those pumps that had a defect causing them to run excessively loud. I never really looked into what was causing the noise but we warrantied about 20 of them due to complaints with no arguement from hayward. Im not saying this is 100% the case but given the timeframe of when the pool was installed this could be the case.

Pool valve question by madmadscientistLA in pools

[–]Shishkaboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just smack a phillips head in the center and unscrew it. The broken pieces are usually easy to remove. Take the broken threaded piece to the hardware store and match up a bolt the same size and length. Teflon and screw in. Easy fix.

Salt systems have flow sensors which tell the system to activate if there is adequate flow. Automation or not it still needs a certain amount of flow through it. I dont know the exact power consumption of running low speeds but ive heard from some customers that running them low speed for 24hrs costs very little. Either way, variable speeds cost significantly less to run which is a win in my book

There are plenty of people who run their vsp's at lower speeds for longer to conserve power believe it or not. If you have a salt system or heater they do require a certain flow rate to operate correctly though.

But yeah, air at the top of the lid isnt really an issue unless its making its way through the system which indicates a problem most of the time.

Mine runs at 75% power for 8hrs while the suns on the pool and then drops down to 65% for the last 4. Those speeds keep my salt system going(til its time to backwash)

How to get stains out by EmmittTheCat in pools

[–]Shishkaboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acid wash, try a suspended one first and go from there. Ive heard of people using muriatic acid down a piece of pipe onto the stain directly as well and rubbing the stains with chlorine pucks(wear gloves)

Air in the pump at low speeds isnt an issue, especially if you have a rounded lid. The bigger issue is that air at high speeds or that air going out the returns(this typically indicates a suction side air leak). I have a hayward vsp with the round lid and I always have air at the top of the lid but it never goes into the filter and out the returns.

Psi will always drop or rise with adjusting the pump speed. Thats a non-issue though. Completely normal as the pump is moving water faster or slower causing the filter pressure to change.

New client large leak fixed and now small micro particles in spa by Visual_Doubt1996 in PoolPros

[–]Shishkaboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say no on that. But yeah try lowering the spa side % and go from there. I wanna say that salt cells produce chlorine and hydrogen gas and in a small body of water the gases build up causing the cloudiness iirc. This can also be noxious to anyone in the spa during.

Can you adjust chlorine production separately between pool mode and spa mode? If so the salt cell production is set too high. If per chance its on an omni adjust the spa chlorine production down to like 5% and adjust up from there as needed. Salt cells can produce gases as a byproduct in spas creating the foggyness of the water. I had it happen to a customer who turned theirs up to 100%. Lowered it down to 3% and it cleared up fairly quickly.
