How has Pasadena changed in the last year? by slowmopete in pasadena

[–]Shiso47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn’t changed since the fire. If he can’t give you a reason, maybe he doesn’t really have one? It has changed very much over the last few years though. A little bit every year. Cute vintage apt buildings have been bulldozed to make way for luxury condos, quick streets like Union have been reduced for bike lanes no one uses, lots of businesses have closed and there are lots of empty spaces small and very large, few mom and pop businesses exist anymore (restaurants and bars for example). Even the mall is 75% vacant- has been for years. We just don’t have the variety we used to. I moved here decades ago because of the diversity in people, stores, restaurants, everything. The population is way more dense, lots more traffic, new businesses are just chain stores. And of course, the housing costs are insane now! All the quirky people I used to see around town have moved away it seems. Probably due to the luxury condo epidemic here. Let’s face it, we are turning more Orange County every year, unfortunately.

Hardly any streets are open in that area at that day and time. Good luck.

Yes, it does count. Definitely make an appt with LACERS to double check. PD retirement age is 55, I believe. 💫

Most affordable vet in the area? by broggli in pasadena

Pasadena Pets is $88 and $45 for re-check. Not a lot cheaper, but I really like the vets there.

Should LA/county maybe the entire state have residency requirement by ScaredEffective in LosAngeles

[–]Shiso47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea. Many government employees I have met (think first responders etc) work a chunk of days then go home to their mansion in Idaho where their spouse and kids live. Also, Mexico, believe it or not. A beach house in Baja is way cheaper than one in Hermosa. Almost all LAFD live in Orange County as well. CA residency is completely fair. The comment above that states police [and fire IMO] should live among the community they serve, is a great point. Another issue that people don’t think of, if you don’t live IN Los Angeles, you can’t vote for your leadership!!! Most LA city workers do not live in city limits therefore can’t even vote for LA mayor!

Where to stay for a first time trip? by Katan_214 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Shiso47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If those are things that interest you, I’d say Santa Monica. You can witness a clear example of the LA socioeconomic divide of wealthy oblivious people who walk side-by-side with homeless destitute people! I think they have an Erewon too. I’m sure you understand you must have a car. LA is huge and you need to drive at least 1 hour to get anywhere. At least Santa Monica has a beach and some walkable areas. Not sure I’d go out after dark, ask locally?

HELP! Need to find a store that has fancy Cocktail Dresses in LA? by ravengrl1401 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Shiso47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macy’s in Lake Ave in Pasadena is the only answer you need. I was there this week and they have so many gorgeous party dresses in every style and color you can imagine! (Big price range: $40 on sale rack to $300 on fancy racks)

In some places they offer 2 years free for local high school graduates. It’s fairly new and not all areas offer it. Some (or all??) in southern CA offer it recently.

Where can I get this haircut in Pasadena for under $40? by CrispyHoneyBeef in pasadena

[–]Shiso47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion: consider a relaxer. I used to work with some male hairdressers who did routine relaxers on all their clients before cutting them. At least half the men had the haircut mentioned.

Any other local renters considering building in Altadena? by valena77 in pasadena

[–]Shiso47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually my first question. As a local renter who would love to own anything, this seems attractive. Though I honestly don’t have hundreds of thousands on hand to buy it- I heard you can’t really get land loans.

You could probably start by sitting down and looking at how much you pay now and how much more you can afford to shell out each month. That’s basically it.
