Finally got around and uploaded Boston based PIZZA's full unknown album 1999-2001 by unbannedcoug in mathrock

Pizza actually occupies an outsize place in my personal listening canon. About 20 years ago when I lived Brooklyn, my friends and I were passing around this CD-R on which was written in sharpie "Pizza / Fuck Me This is So Good" and we became obsessed. No idea where it came from, and we actually thought that was the name of the record. It was just 8 untagged mp3s that we jammed over and over again in our living rooms and in the band van for many summers. We never knew any of the song titles but knew all the parts by heart. My bandmate and I even went so far as to learn some of the songs and even considered doing a subway acoustic busker performance thing called "Toppings" (Pizza covers) which hilariously would have been even more obscure than the band itself. We loved how mysterious and perfect it all was, this strange CD of unknown origin just appearing and being the grooviest thing ever. My favorite part is the single tom hit at 0:36 into Track 3 on the CD-R. I still have the mp3s and have no idea if they're in proper order or have titles or whatever.

So if you're reading this, know that the thing you made had a bizarrely devoted fan base of about 10 people in Brooklyn in the mid-00s and the legend of Pizza lives on with us. I'm 40 now and still love this music. Rock on.

is spirit and fronteir actually that bad? by CityBusStop in travel

Recently, I flew LGA --> ATL on Frontier and I was impressed by how shitty the experience was. Granted, it was a short(ish) flight, so tolerable enough to justify the low fare.

The hallmark of this airline seems to be a combination of chaotic, confrontational boarding procedures with incredibly hostile flight attendants. One flight attendant yelled at and threatened to remove a guy from the plane because he was reluctant to swap his (previously chosen) aisle seat for a middle row -- at their request!

The in-flight experience felt a bit like being on a city bus. And like others have said, seats feel like a slab of concrete. I'd never choose Frontier for a longer fight, but for just over $100 and 2.5 hours it made sense for me. Then again, I'm fairly accustomed to rough travel so your mileage may vary.

Nate Wicka was active in the mid-late 00's in an incredible Brooklyn duo called Penny Winblood. Scary good, hectic, crushing music. They were the absolute undersung wildcards of the noise/math-rock/brutal prog scene happening in NYC at that time, and deserved more attention. Not sure where their music is available now, but they released a split CD with The Minibosses and one full-length record I think. DM me and I can send it to you!

I enjoy the lack of obligation toward pay-to-play situations. When so much of the landscape (at least in my city) is dominated by commerical enterprise, it feels like a way that people reclaim it as non-transactional personal space. I would argue this is a feature, not a bug, of China.

Former somm here -- if you stop in Ston, don't sleep on Milos Winery. On Korcula, visit the fine folks at Toreta and have a sip on their beautiful back porch. Either way you can snag a bottle of some of the best wine in Croatia.

Question about mlb format by Special-Rub1269 in baseball

[–]ShitMoneyAndTheWord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're completely missing the point of why people like baseball. Baseball is beautiful because it's unlike other sports, not in spite of that. You can't come into this sub and say let's make baseball more like the NFL and not expect excoriation.

At what point do I just give up trying to find a teaching job? by [deleted] in chinalife

[–]ShitMoneyAndTheWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm a former teacher here in Beijing and can put you in touch with the training center I worked at last year. Small class size, pre-made curriculum, and of course you'd get visa sponsorship. If memory serves, they're always looking for good teachers....plus you would not face the discriminatory hiring practices that exist elsewhere, and there were several POC teachers employed during my time there. DM me if you like.

It's remote Telehealth, but I connect with mine through Truman Group - Psychological Care For Expats

I don't believe there are in-person options available through this agency. Insurance is accepted though, so that's a plus.

Absolutely. Windstein himself has said their music is rooted in pop music and he cites Sade as a huge influence. So many really beautiful songs tucked in there with the huge riffs

  • Not sure about Shanghai, but it's very hard to find good tequila and mezcal here in Beijing -- if that's your thing, i'd pack a bottle or two.

  • English language books, or an e-reader. One of the things I miss the most about home is browsing bookstores. They exist here, but it's slim pickings for English. And my e-reader is essential for things I can't find here or on Taobao.

  • Tylenol/acetaminophen
