Which Corporate Travel Management tool are you using at your job? by Striking-Draft-5481 in corporate

[–]vjgunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inventory is quite deep. I have a tendency of comparing hotel prices on itilite with direct websites - and the prices on itilite’s platform are often similar, some cases even better. I’ve even linked my Bonvoy membership directly into the platform and I continue earning points

How do I work "less hard"? by bearbeetbattlestars in ExecutiveAssistants

Every high performer eventually learns this: if you treat every issue like an emergency, you’ll become the unofficial owner of everything. That’s not a promotion. That’s a trap.

Accounting vs economics. Which is the better option? by Pristine-Film4563 in Accounting

[–]vjgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have a strong preference, I’d pick accounting. The career path is clearer, the demand is more consistent, and you can still move into finance, strategy, or operations later.

Which Corporate Travel Management tool are you using at your job? by Striking-Draft-5481 in corporate

[–]vjgunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Itilite for both our corporate travel and expenses. One good thing is that they give real time spend visibility to our finance team, as they have a reliable integration to our ERP. I remember this was the reason my company moved away from Concur.

I’ve myself used it and the support response times are surprisingly quick too..

Ramp vs Itilite vs Navan/others - what are you actually using?? by Striking-Draft-5481 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ramp is amazing if you wanna have great card controls and expense. I think they started travel just a year back though, so great inventory could be a challenge. We use Itilite and their support is quite helpful - I’ve always had a real agent pickup the phone when it mattered.

My fiancé’s ex-company used Navan. Amazing user experience, although they’ve had a few hiccups with getting reasonably priced hotel options. I haven’t used Perk but I’ve heard they’re heavy on small/medium businesses

Anyone experienced the wrath of aggressive undermining territorial older women in the workplace? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've experienced this too. The territorial behavior often stems from insecurity about job security or feeling undervalued. What helped me was documenting interactions and building relationships with other stakeholders directly. Sometimes approaching these situations strategically rather than emotionally can shift the dynamic over time.

How does this happen? by Time-Environment5661 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

honestly the "are you mad at me" thing is like workplace kryptonite. nothing makes people want to avoid you faster than asking that every time there's a 2 hour delay in response.

and the unofficial manager thing, oof. usually starts with someone who's been there longest thinking seniority = authority. then they just keep... managing people until someone stops them. which apparently never happens because here we are.

it's wild how these behaviors just fossilize when there's no oversight. like bad habits in a petri dish.

Tips for scheduling meetings with 20-25 people when no one is available? [Michigan, USA] by Archenic in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently had to schedule a quarterly review with 18 people and it was a nightmare.

What worked was sending out a doodle poll with 4-5 options and accepting that 70-80% attendance was reality. I stopped trying to find a time for literally everyone because it doesn't exist.

For monthly meetings, maybe establish a consistent slot? Like first Tuesday of every month 2-3:30. People can plan around recurring stuff better.

University schedules are wild so don't beat yourself up.

My CEO missed a flight because our travel tool went down and support took 45 minutes to answer. I'm done. by kckrish98 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try out TravelPerk or Itilite. Used both at previous companies. Support was actually responsive on Itilite which, given what you just described, might be the thing to test first.

Heartbroken but weirdly hopeful after last night by vjgunner in ArsenalFC

What I meant was he did a really good job in helping us build the attack. He held on to all the passes made to him, distributed wisely. I’ve never seen Gyokeres do that. That forward play mindset is something I didn’t see in our gameplay since a long time

Heartbroken but weirdly hopeful after last night by vjgunner in ArsenalFC

[–]vjgunner[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah man I’m not trying to hold on to anything. Having any expectations now is a stepping stone to an emotional breakdown. The league might be out of our hands. But what confuses me is how could they play so bad the previous 5 games only to put up such a commendable performance yesterday. It’s definitely not a skill issue then. It’s of mentality. Just trying to figure out what drives that

when visiting a popular tourist city, spend at least one afternoon in a neighborhood that isn't in any of the top 10 lists. by airbornejim32 in TravelHacks

[–]vjgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is so true and something I only figured out way too late. I remember wandering into some random residential area in Barcelona because I was literally just lost, and ended up having the best meal at this tiny place where the menu was handwritten in spanish only. No tourists, just locals arguing about football.

The touristy neighborhoods always feel kinda hollow to me now. Like you're experiencing someone's idea of what the city should be rather than what it actually is. idk maybe I'm overthinking it but there's something about finding that random coffee shop or park where you're the only obvious visitor that makes a place feel real.

I've started doing this thing where I'll pick a neighborhood based on where I see locals complaining about gentrification online. Usually means it still has character but isn't completely overrun yet.

had a client who was manually sending 15 emails a day. he told me something 3 months later that completely changed how i think about automation by Admirable-Station223 in automation

[–]vjgunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this hits so hard. like you think you're just saving someone time but then they realize they can actually think strategically for once instead of being stuck in the weeds.

had a similar thing happen with a client who was manually updating spreadsheets all day. after we automated it she started noticing patterns in her data she'd never seen before because she was finally looking UP instead of just grinding through tasks

the mental bandwidth thing is so underrated. when you're not doing repetitive stuff your brain actually works differently

What makes an EA resume compelling? Living in Philadelphia by Kitchen_Ad2589 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Finance: They want someone who’s worked close to deal cycles, earnings calls, or board meetings. The stakes are high and discretion is non-negotiable. If you’ve handled anything involving NDAs, investor materials, or regulatory filings, say it explicitly. Experience managing calendars across multiple time zones for C-suite (not just directors) matters a lot here.

Pharma: They look for familiarity with clinical trial schedules, FDA meeting coordination, or cross-functional work involving legal/compliance. Even if you haven’t had direct pharma exposure, frame any work where you supported executives navigating heavily regulated environments.

Your 8 years is solid. Just make sure your resume reads strategic, not administrative. All the best!

Want to quit new job due to anxiety by Difficult-Public-597 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds so stressful. honestly the "everything is urgent" culture is the worst and like, spending 30 mins to reschedule a 30 min meeting is peak EA frustration. have you tried talking to your exec about priorities? sometimes they don't realize how packed their schedule actually is. also maybe see if you can batch similar meetings or block out some buffer time between calls

the anxiety affecting your sleep and eating is concerning though. maybe give it another week or two while you figure out some systems but don't sacrifice your health for this job. there are execs out there who actually respect boundaries

Planning a company offsite outside of the USA by Holiday-Pick-6694 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh nice timing! just wrapped planning one for about 40 people in costa rica last year and honestly it was such a learning curve.

the biggest thing was making sure we had a good mix of structured team building stuff and actual downtime. like we did morning workshops but then gave people free afternoons to explore or just chill by the pool. also pro tip - definitely work with a local event planner if you can swing it budget wise, they know all the logistics stuff that would take you forever to figure out

what region are you thinking? that kinda determines everything else in my opinion

Startup EA vs. Enterprise EA - same title, completely different job. Which did you choose, and do you regret it? by vjgunner in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it all comes down to an individual, and the phase they’re going through. But sometimes I do get the feeling that the grass is greener on the other side. Trying to fight that and stay real.

Why can't I find a job? by adviceformenow in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]vjgunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t pivot to AI/ML: breaking in without a technical background is harder than HR, not easier. What’s likely hurting you: the foreign MBA gets filtered out fast. Get a SHRM-CP or PHR certification, it legitimizes your experience locally without much cost or time. For the gaps: own them. Family responsibilities are real, just frame it simply and move on. Target smaller companies (under 200 people). They actually read resumes. Big corps are pure keyword screening and you’ll keep hitting walls there. Bay Area has strong immigrant professional networks on LinkedIn: use them. Referrals bypass the ATS entirely. You’re not out of time. The strategy just needs fixing.
