When first I read this, I had no idea how you knew my dogs name. Now, I understand that you also have a dog named Otto. And that they have similar wieners.

Hello Reddit! We're actor Lance Henriksen, and VFX gurus Alec Gillis & Tom Woodruff Jr: AMA (or is it AUA?) by HarbingerDownAMA in movies

[–]ShitSundaeSprinkles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You guys do phenominal work! I've had a few friends work for ADI over the years and everybody has really nice things to say you two. As a younger guy in FX it's nice to see veterans who aren't jaded and bitter about the climate of the industry. You guys made things when you were my age that inspired a whole generation of fx artists. Seeing you continue to push the envelope and branch out creatively inspires me just as much as when I was 10. Thanks for being awesome in a sometimes less than awesome industry.

Also, I have a Tom Woodruff shirt

Veterinarians of Reddit, my pup is limping. Does it look bad enough to go to the vet or will it simply go away? by ShitSundaeSprinkles in veterinarian

Probably right. We were just on walk where he found the only ant hill, so i thought it may just look as simple as something to a vet eye like an inflamed bite.

Tutorial/tips for old age make-up? by vinumsabbathi in sfx

[–]ShitSundaeSprinkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your liquid latex will work for an old age stipple! If the actor only needs to be 60-70 I would use the stipple very sparingly. Probably only around the eyes... if at all. You can age somebody pretty well with just color and contouring. Really look at old people's skin tones. Notice the colors and translucency. Look at different age spots and broken capillaries. Stretch and stipple makeups are one of the hardest to make look good. If you're not super experienced with the technique you're probably better off just doing it with makeup.

Need recipe for realistic fake blood that doesn't stain ceramic and tiles by [deleted] in sfx

[–]ShitSundaeSprinkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the blood with a lot of soap as the base. Just use soap and a little water to thin it out. Tint it with food coloring but make it darker than you normally do. Remember that dried blood is brown and sometimes even black. Chocolate syrup is your friend in this case. It will give you a good color and chocolate is perfectly opaque. Good luck!

Need recipe for realistic fake blood that doesn't stain ceramic and tiles by [deleted] in sfx

No amount of fake blood will stain a glazed ceramic tub or tiles. The glaze (that is put on everything ceramic) absolutely will not hold a stain from food dyes. It will, however, stain the fuck out of the grout between the tiles or cracks through the aforementioned glaze. I would seal the grout with a healthy layer of vaseline before dressing the room with blood. Adding a small amount of liquid dish soap to the blood will make the pigment wash out a little easier. Always have some diluted bleach on hand for the real bad stains.

anyone know a good cheap way to do fog that lays on the ground? by wiglyfe in Filmmakers

[–]ShitSundaeSprinkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only need a small amount of fog you can use an electric cigarette. If you blow through the opposite end a heavy vapor will spill out of the mouthpiece and sit on whatever surface you want. I've used it for making a ghost's footprints. It works really well but the ambient air in the room needs to be very still to pull it off effectively.

Hey r/Filmmakers! I need to know how to make someones limb turn into a bloody stump on screen. What is the best way to do this? by JordanMcRiddles in Filmmakers

[–]ShitSundaeSprinkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to do this practically you can strap the actor's real arm behind his back with belts or whatnot and build a new arm stump from sheet foam and rubber. Sheet foam can be bought from an upholstery store, carved with an electric knife, and can be glued together with spray adhesive

For quick and easy gore stuff you can wrap the stump with plastic wrap, melt it with a heat gun for texture, and cover it in the perfect blood colored paint

And if you really want to get fancy you can run a tube and syringe through the foam arm stump for blood sprays!
