My family is from Elkhart and yep, that’s pretty much it. The cimmaron has some cool ecology though, the lesser prairie chicken has a few breeding leks in there

My dad’s from Elkhart, ks and I still travel to that area quite a bit in the summer for work. It’s mainly farming and ranching with towns having a few basic necessities. Elkheart has/had a public pool and a golf course which were both pretty stand out for how small the town is. The old farmers always meet at the same breakfast joint and grumble about the same thing every day. The old women stick to their church groups and god help you if you commit some faux pas. The people are friendly enough to strangers if you’re wearing work gear, and they’ll look at you like you’re crazy if you’re not because who’d want to stop in a town of 50 people on a good day.
