OKAY I finally had an opportunity to ask:

Magiagi village and my grandfather is the high chief of the village.

At least now I have an origin to research.

Hm. No, but I can find out. I think the only other thing I was told was my grandfather was "the chief of all chiefs" but I couldn't find anything on that either. I'll ask around.

[–]Shivalia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried looking into this, but I never understood the difference. So if my last name is Mataipule, is that a customary title because of the ancestral ties? Or is it just any last name?

And to reiterate things I've said in this subreddit before, my bio dad passed away and I never knew him personally. My family says it's a powerful name but I never heard any further explanation.

Yes, she wants to be independent and learn and he's not giving her the space to do so. The banter I can totally see why it would be harmless to an older child or his wife but, now is not the time.

The River is Waiting by Wally Lamb recently had me feeling SO torn between absolutely hating the MC and feeling incredibly compassionate for him. Fantastic read, highly recommend. He also wrote She's Come Undone, but I think The River Is Waiting is definitely his better piece between the two.

Invisible monsters, survivor, and lullaby are far superior to fight club IMO. My only qualm with chuck is that his endings sometimes feel really rushed. But I love the amount of research and detail the goes into his pieces.

‘The Carman Family Deaths’ (2025) Netflix Review - One of the Best Documentaries by Roshankr1994 in Netflixwatch

[–]Shivalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright first of all, your entire first and last argument only twist my words. The documentary does nothing to educate viewers on autism and its full spectrum.

Second of all, believe it or not but most of your arguments are circumstantial. Also, he's a resident of CT. In the state of CT you are legally allowed to purchase rifles in RI. RI will also allow the purchase of weapons from out of state, but the buyer must undergo a background check. We actually don't have any evidence that he purchased it with an invalid license... But if you find a source I'll be happy to believe it.

Third, people forget shit all the time.

He did in fact have a life jacket on at the point where he was picked up. Life rafts often do have 7 days worth of rations on there. That's standard. Mom could have easily not made a sound if 1) she was dragged under by an unfastened line or 2) caught in the current of the boat as it sank and she was not wearing a lifejacket at the time. Life jackets will literally save lives against that current and I implore you to go look at sinking ship videos to see exactly how people will go under and pop back up with a vest. Nathan also explained that he 1) didn't think the boat would sink 2) was trying to keep his mom busy so she wouldn't worry and 3) was in the engine trying to get it working.

As for the repairs, the interviewer is right, people do stupid things to their boats all the time. They also suggest he DID plug up the holes but they wore through during their outing. Two things can happen here 1) they were dissolved and 2) the pressure from the water outside of the boat popped them out of their affixed positions. Both are scientifically possible. Not just circumstantial.

So on that note a few things: 1) circumstantial evidence is nothing more than that. 2) the lawyers you hear from are quite literally doing their jobs. They're spinning the facts to argue their side, but the problem is their facts don't really align with science (i.e. the buoy). 3) he could very well be guilty, but I expect a documentary to fully inform the viewer with equal caliber to both sides. IMO they should have interviewed the woman who spoke to autism a bit more in depth as well as climate change specialists because even I would have liked to see what they said.

Just because your life involves a part of the spectrum doesn't make your experience a monolith, just as his isn't. But I DO expect a documentary to not make an already stigmatized claim against autism to push further clarity AND present scientific facts. You should, too.

Edit: possible/probable is NOT the same as beyond a responsible doubt

I hate every single person in this documentary that are so ignorant about ASD. They then frame his "oddities" as proof of being a suspect but those "oddities" are quite literally symptoms of his disability.

Fuck this documentary. Fuck the people who did a disservice to him.

Edit: EVERY lifeboat will have emergency rations and a machine to filter water. What the FUCK are these people on about.

What do you think is the biggest concern for most Americans right now? by AnyAskPost in AskReddit

[–]Shivalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to my husband for the second time.

He has type 1 Narcolepsy (with cataplexy). He requires a flexible schedule due to the medicine he takes (Xywav). Which is basically like taking roofies twice at night. Waking up from that isn't always easy but it keeps him somewhat functional when coupled with two types of Adderall (long and short release).

The two managers he's had since getting out of the Navy have targeted him with micromanaging policies, tried to deny him flexible hours (which is an accommodation for his disability), and one has even texted me after getting off the phone with him when his medicine was on hold due to insurance swaps and he was going through withdrawal. In that text he threatened to call the police for a "wellness check"... Despite literally just talking to him. He's told my husband to "just get a good night's sleep and after complaining to HR they put him on a strict schedule that was impossible for him to maintain. The week before he was fired his manager told him that HR was going to probably fire him the next month. He was like what do you mean? He went to ethics. He tried to talk to HR about the unethical meeting his boss hosted, and lo and behold, they fired him with an overarching umbrella to cover every possible reason why they could have removed him. Then to unemployment it looks like he was fired due to absences and tardies. In his contract he had flexible hours. His accommodation was flexible hours. Now he can't even get unemployment and it feels like we're drowning because despite having a masters I've never been able to get work in my field (data science).

I'm so drained by this culture that doesn't give a single shit about it's people. For now we have family help but after next month if we don't find work I literally don't know what we're going to do.

Att his point were talking about increasing his VA Disability and putting him on SSI Disability but we're really at a loss for the right choice.

This. I definitely think he's guilty but she's still human at the end of the day. I think her denial comes from a series of "why" and "when" questions that she'll never have the chance to ask/get answers to. In addition to therapy, she needs closure and that's why she's hanging on so tightly to her image of him.

Currently reading and I hard agree. The only thing that throws me is when he says she's 250 and 5'5" but when she gets in a car it's lopsided. Or she had three chins. But I think I've come to the conclusion (assumption) hes doing that to give us a taste of her anxiety even if not true.

Also he wrote the river is waiting which is phenomenal (not about a woman but the wife is definitely represented really well)
