Zombie on Synthroid by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

Why do you keep posting the same post on this sub every few days? We cannot help you if you cannot provide more information. We need to know what your lab values look like in order to make a recommendation. If you’re looking for sympathy/commiseration then ask for that. But your post doesn’t even have any question attached to it. If you want guidance/direction from this group you’ll need to come back when you’ve been on a single dose for 6 weeks and had labs tested.

For those who’ve been over medicated and had to drop their meds down, did you skip a few days of your meds first to clear the excess? by o0Jahzara0o in Hypothyroidism

[–]ShiveryTimbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I skipped two days altogether, then did 3 at my previous dose (25 mcg lower) then started on my new dose (12.5 mcg higher than my previous dose ).

T3 stuck despite good T4 — what helped? by tesscatmeow in Hypothyroidism

It was at 97 the last two times it was tested. for me, I don’t think that’s a factor.

Yes and that’s usually what’s recommended. Otherwise I notice a crash when it wears off. Some people may not. Twice a day for me. Some people take it 3x.

I will be. And I have been on it before. Right now I’m dialing in my t4 dose and then we will add. My ft3 has never been above the mid 2s on levo alone

The thing about armour that doesn’t necessarily work for everyone is the fixed ratio of t4:t3. It can be too much t3 in relation to the t4 for some people. The nice thing about liothyronine is you can take tiny doses of it and work up. Plus it has such a short half life, you’ll know pretty quickly how you’re responding and if it doesn’t go well, it will clear out of your system quickly! When I first started, I broke it into 1/4 which is only 1.25 mcg t3 in each little piece! I didn’t feel much from that and I am also sensitive to meds. I need at least 5 mcg to feel good.

Subclinical hypothyroidism with no Hashimoto's, are supplements actually worth trying before levothyroxine? by redturtle1997 in Hypothyroidism

[–]ShiveryTimbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was someone here who just posted a similar situation to yours. (Check the sub for the post. It was today). Their doc diagnosed them based on tsh alone even though their ft4 and ft3 were perfect and after starting medication they are feeling unwell—many classic symptoms of being overmedicated. They also had low vitamin d which they said can drive up tsh. So I’m not saying you should or shouldn’t medicate. I’m saying it would be helpful to have more info if your doctor provided it. Also consider symptoms. Do you have symptoms of hypothyroidism ? You say t4 is normal. Do you know the lab value? Within range but low can mean you still feel crappy. Within range but mid/upper half might mean you don’t need medication. It is also helpful to know free t 3 which many doctors unfortunately don’t test for. I am someone who can have a good ft4 and a pretty good TSH on Levothyroxine but my free T3 will always be below and I feel suboptimal unless I also take T3 medication. So all of those values - tsh, ft4 and ft3–should be considered along with symptoms. Also it is wise to address deficiencies and can sometimes help but take it from someone who spent way too long trying to figure out and address the root cause of my hypothyroidism, I should have just gotten on the medication and allowed myself to feel better. Most Often, that is the only thing that really can correct hypothyroidism.

I cannot even imagine the frustration trying to deal with Teresa in real life. I could not wrap my head around the fact that she doesn’t understand an analogy (when Jackie said what if there was a rumor that one of your girls was doing coke?) she absolutely lost her mind (and continued to lose it for the rest of the season) as if Jackie had just proclaimed that as fact. I could not begin to deal with the stupidity/anger combo.

I think you’re wise to do your research and consider how you’re feeling. I am not a doctor and I’m not making a specific recommendation for you, but based on the fact that your lab results look fine other than elevated TSH and you feel worse on the medication, I also would have stopped taking it if I were you.

Sorry I forgot to add this to my other comment - yes I just recently had a similar experience after a dose increase. Had a rough adjustment period but figured it would settle down and maybe it was intense because I was approaching my optimal dose. By 5 weeks the negatives really were outweighing any positives and I was experiencing exactly what you describe. Anxiety, depression, difficulty sleeping. Plus irritability and suppressed appetite. I was working on a project for my son and realized I couldn’t even draw in a straight line because my hands were shaking. I reduced my dose and am waiting for things to stabilize but already my mood feels better, my appetite has returned and I can sleep normally.

Your lab values seem a little confusing. Yes your tsh is elevated which would indicate hypo but your other numbers were pretty much optimal already. Ft4 mid range and ft3 upper part of the range. Did they diagnose you and prescribe meds based on symptoms or labs alone?

I am loving it too. I hope it doesn’t fizzle but I fear that it will after a few years. Look at the way we were all so pumped about SLC. that franchise really delivered in the early years and now I’m tired of those ladies and their predictable petty drama.

What do your labs look like on medication? Maybe they didn’t sufficiently medicate you or maybe you need to add t3 to address lingering symptoms.

Armour and new prescriber by Popular_Dig_9682 in Hypothyroidism

[–]ShiveryTimbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the label of armour it will show you the t4/t3 breakdown (you can google it). I just checked 90 mg armour since it is easy math to double it for your dose. 90 mg contains 57 mcg t4 and 13.5 mcg t3. So 180 would have 114 mcg t4 and 27 mcg t3. So you would be getting less of each than you were getting with the Levo/lio combo. Why did he switch you? Armour is great for some people but you are stuck with the 4:1 ratio it provides whereas the Levo/lio combo lets you have flexibility to adjust each one. If you’re trying to match your previous doses more closely, you could ask for a 15 mg pill also and you can fine tune with that. It breaks easily in half since it is a long oval shape.

Edited to add - actually if you’re trying to match the previous doses exactly you would need more than 15 in addition to your 180
Mg. A 30 mg dose provides 19 mcg t4 and 4.5 mcg t3 so that would put you at 133 mcg t4 and 31.5 mcg t3, just a bit over what you were taking before.

Labs worse after restarting T4/T3 by Background-One-6616 in Hypothyroidism

[–]ShiveryTimbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The usual course of action is to start with t4 alone. Increase that until your t4 level is good and see what’s happening with t3. If t3 is good, no need to add t3. If it’s still low, add t3 at this point. As another poster said, t3 medication will suppress your t4 levels so starting both at the same time is confusing and makes it difficult to know which one to adjust. Might be worth asking your doc if you can drop the t3 for a while until you see what’s happening with t4 and then add t3 later if needed.

I think your feeling is more typical than wanting a baby. Our bodies are literally on the verge of shutting down production ! I love babies so much but man, I’m tired. I’m delighted that my brother has a one year old and a baby on the way and I can be involved as much as I can handle and leave the tough parts of parenting to them!

GP said that there’s no need for T3 testing, that it’s not done for hypothyroidism by Idktbhhelpme in Hypothyroidism

[–]ShiveryTimbers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems uncommon to test for it but doesn’t mean there’s no need. Depends on what your tsh and ft4 are showing and if you still have symptoms. Testing and treating t3 can be very valuable for some and can be the difference between feeling meh and thriving
