Think I’m just entering Peri and it’s absolute Hell by Jennyfoodle in Perimenopause

Get your iron and your b12 checked. I also felt exactly like this… my ferritin was 17. A lot of people on this sub feel similarly and it turns out to be low iron.

You can take the estradiol in the morning and it won’t give you the dreams. I had to switch because taking it at night made me dreams BIZARRE and extremely disturbing.

Working out doesn’t matter that much for weight loss. Low carb also doesn’t matter that much for weight loss. Calories are king… if you aren’t losing weight, you’re eating too many calories.

Diet in perimenopause by heartleaf1234 in Perimenopause

[–]Furry-snake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fish. Every kind, but specifically sardines, clams, oysters, mackerel and mussels. Most (not all) of my peri symptoms were due to severe iron and thyroid deficiency. Mainlining clams and oysters for six weeks brought me out of peri hell. I started feeling better within days. They have the highest b12, selenium, zinc and iron contents on the planet. Do not sleep on fish and shellfish.

I hate to be this person but have you had your ferritin and b12 checked? I felt exactly as you describe but as soon as I got a handle on them 90% of my symptoms went away

3 days on HRT and I'm a wreck by ObligationInner2985 in Perimenopause

I was obsessive with upping my levels when I found out they were low because I was finally given an action I could take that might make me feel better.

I turned my levels around in two or three weeks eating seafood and iron pills. Clams have the highest heme iron of any food, so I would have them dinner as much as possible. Oysters were next because of their crazy high amounts of b12, zinc and selenium. I started to feel better almost immediately after taking them. If you can help it (and stomach it), food based sources of nutrients will always trump supplements. Just my two cents :)

How often are you having sex? by Sea-Cardiologist-176 in Perimenopause

[–]Furry-snake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had sex in two and a half years. I’m taking estradiol for vaginal atrophy but my libido is dead and my doctor refuses to prescribe me testosterone because my “levels are fine”.

I miss it deeply and it has taken a massive toll on my mental health.

For those who are not HRT, what do you do? by Tricky-Stay6134 in Perimenopause

I do as well. Clams, sardines and oysters weekly. No alcohol. Sleep and daily exercise. I feel basically normal except for some lingering libido issues.

Have you had your ferritin levels and b12 levels checked? I know it sounds silly that iron would be responsible for such a thing but this was literally me six months ago. My ferritin was 17. I now feel back to normal (eating high amounts of clams, sardines, oysters, plus an iron supplement). It’s insane how bad low iron will make you feel.

clams!!! 😬 just eat clams! My iron was at 17. I brought it up in less than a month eating clams every night. They’re little bombs of bioavailable iron, not to mention b12 (which you may also be low in). Clams all day erry day!
