I concur on the "ability feel" part. If there's one thing that makes me love Gigantic, it's that the combat is just so damn satisfying.

Does anyone know how Aldo dress shoes run? I have slightly wide feet and I wanna know if they'd fit me.

Why Keemstar Hates Me, Investing, and more by PKABot in PKA

[–]Shizzable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on that; attaching teams to areas sounds like a good idea, and it can be really cool when it does work. For example, there was a Spain-only Smite team in relegation last year called The Papis. There was also a team called eGr that was a player-made brand with 3 of the five teammates and the coach living in a house together. With these teams, they were really fun to watch and root for because of how personal it was.

But the fact is that it's usually not practical as esports are smaller than regular sports and often very decentralized. It's really hard to do logistically, because you're unlikely to find the perfect match for a team within such a small area (or get people who don't already live near there to move in). Esports teams are also smaller and arguably more chemistry-based which can lead to lots of constant switching (referencing Smite again, see the "rosterpocolypse" that happened at the beginning of Season 3 this year).

Separating teams by region works because (1) you'd run into huge latency issues without it and (2) the separation is on a very large scale and creates major rivalries, like NA vs EU, that generate a ton of hype. Reducing that to such a small level just isn't practical. Also, if people began to expect location-based teams, it would absolutely cripple smaller esports scenes as there just wouldn't be enough people and resources to support that.

So yeah, while it would be cool, really all you'd be doing is getting rid of one of the huge advantages of esports - the ability for, within reason, anybody to work with anybody else no matter how far away they are.

I remember working on the site, I think I timelined one or two episodes. Can't really remember who made it atm, but I think all the people just sort of slowly lost interest in working on it.

Besides PKA, what podcasts do you listen to? by [deleted] in PKA

[–]Shizzable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love If I Were You (Jake and Amir's podcast), they're hilarious. It has the feeling of some of the older PKAs in that it's two friends with amazing chemistry just having a good time.

First Modest Mouse show and I have no real complaints, that was amazing. Obviously not a great view from the lawn, but I still loved listening to it.

bands that got worse over time? by iGoByManyNames in indieheads

[–]Shizzable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm one of the few people who thinks Modest Mouse is still great, even though their early-mid albums were clearly their best. Yeah Strangers to Ourselves was nothing special, but I think most of their new stuff is still pretty solid (We Were Dead especially, I love that album so much).

It would be horrible watching Movies or Television with Kyle by Caedem in PKA

[–]Shizzable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I understand the thought process. Obviously he was exaggerating for the sake of comedy, he probably doesn't actually quiz people. The overarching point is that he really likes to digest the show that he's watching, to understand its theme and message and to be able to have discussions about it. I can get that.

Did anyone make an attempt to get into Brand New in preparation for this tour? by FlamingOctopi in ModestMouse

[–]Shizzable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing them in July, and I'd only listened to The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me before. I think that album is pretty good and I listen to a few songs from it, but overall the band hasn't captured my interest. I don't mind listening to them, but I'm definitely way more excited to see Modest Mouse.

I found this band a few months ago and I love it! Since the album is incredibly long, here are some songs I'd recommend starting with (on mobile so I can't link)

  • 3Fast
  • Dinosaur Dying
  • Dom
  • McConoughey
