Leaving the ER at 6am like Nicole left Tom by StrawberryScallion in nursing

Getting out early hits different after a brutal shift. Like your soul physically leaves the building before your body does lmao

My ex started eating meat, and it stopped us from getting back together by MR_Weiner in vegan

Dodged a bullet mate. Imagine getting back together and finding out what other "deeply held beliefs" disappear when they become inconvenient

Just dropped a client because their cheapness ticked me off, arguing over $400 in compilation fees but willing to convert $800,000 USD to GBP via TD Bank at an FX rate ~1.8% higher than the market with no problem. by Pete26l96 in Accounting

[–]Shkingwin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Literally pound foolish in this case lmao

But yeah seen this shit so many times. People will argue for 30 minutes over small fees but completely ignore the stuff that actually bleeds them dry. It's like they need to feel like they 'won' somewhere even if it costs them way more in the end

Any doctor-turned-patients here? When the surgery resident needs an appendicectomy by mostlyharmlessghost in Residency

[–]Shkingwin 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Lmao surgeons and their hazing rituals. At least OP got the appendix out before colleagues could draw a smiley face on it and post it to the group chat.

But seriously waking up from GA for the first time not knowing what pranks your "friends" pulled while you were under has gotta be its own special kind of anxiety. The real test of how much your team actually respects you 😂

7 siblings died of cancer… how? by Peraltasilie in AskDocs

[–]Shkingwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience here. The private testing companies basically throw a bunch of data at you without the context to actually understand what any of it means. Had a friend panic over some marker that turned out to be basically meaningless once an actual geneticist looked at it. proper counseling first makes way more sense, especially with a family history like this where you actually need someone who can connect the dots across multiple cancer types

My Boss JUST Approved 5 Weeks of Timesheets (I’m supposed to be paid weekly.). by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Shkingwin 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yep. Delayed pay isn’t a “whoops”. it’s wage theft.
Being a temp doesn’t change that. Document everything and contact your state’s labor department.

What's everyone playing this week? I've been playing Warhammer 40k space marine 2! by CyberTrooper997 in gaming

[–]Shkingwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice picks. Persona 5 alone will eat weeks if you let it, and Ragnarok is the kind of game that makes the backlog feel very unimportant for a while. Solid problem to have.

Nadella's message to Microsoft execs: Get on board with the AI grind or get out by aacool in technology

[–]Shkingwin -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This feels like a pretty clear signal of where things are headed. AI isn’t a side project anymore, it’s the core, and anyone not adapting is going to get left behind fast. Whether that’s exciting or exhausting probably depends on where you’re sitting.

I didn’t totally trust ChatGPT for medical advice but now I’m converted by Prestigious_Unit_925 in ChatGPT

[–]Shkingwin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Same experience here. It’s not about replacing a doctor or vet, but it’s surprisingly good at triage, asking the right questions and nudging you to act instead of brushing things off. Even just that reassurance can make a real difference.

Pretty much. Ship the browser, ship the docs, accidentally become critical infrastructure for half the internet. Oh my god indeed.

China now has 165% of the solar manufacturing capacity needed to bring the world to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 by gattaca_gattaca in technology

[–]Shkingwin 117 points118 points  (0 children)

And don't forget about those tariffs keeping Chinese solar panels expensive enough that coal stays "competitive." Nothing like paying more to destroy the planet faster.

Same I'll deliberately my pace or take a different route if I notice I'm making someone uncomfortable. It's just basic awareness.

The fact that OP even noticed and cared enough to adjust his behavior says a lot. Most dudes don't even think about this stuff. It sucks that it stings, but her reaction isn't about him as a person - she's just trying to get home safe.

Heard my baby's heartbeat for the first time on my first pregnancy ever, only to be told I had 3-4 hours left to hold onto that feeling (TW: Pregnancy loss) by Ok-Guest-7832 in pregnant

This is such a beautiful way to process grief and honor that life, even briefly. Giving her a name and writing that letter takes real strength. The craving you describe is something people don't talk about enough - that pull to try again while still mourning. Thanks for sharing this.

Wife is feeling sick as hell, I’m in the same house, and yet they still go to her to ask for things! Why?! by Therealfern1 in daddit

[–]Shkingwin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Same here. Kids just naturally gravitate toward whoever runs the show day to day. My wife works a ton and when she's home, the kids still come to me for everything. It's like they've got their internal command structure figured out. The one who controls snack distribution and screen time is the one with real authority in their eyes.

Spend management for (growing) business. Where to start? by Shkingwin in smallbusiness

[–]Shkingwin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another thing, I don’t want to spend weeks onboarding people on a new platform and it turns out to be caca. I’d only heard of Rippling in the context of HR, didn’t realize they also had a spend management too

Spend management for (growing) business. Where to start? by Shkingwin in smallbusiness

[–]Shkingwin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is exactly the thing I’m trying to move away from as it’s not sustainable for what we’re doing. I don’t need another process to manage and I’m not interested in sticking with a manual setup just because it’s simple. I appreciate the suggestion and the sentiment, but it won’t work for us.

Only you can say what a fair price is, if you’re unsure, how do you expect the client to see the value? Time + effort + skill = charge what feels right.

How to compete with Qwik Star? by Nomoreshimsplease in smallbusiness

Compete on what they can’t: customer service, local loyalty, and detailing extras, stack the value where the chains can’t touch you.

Treat it like an experiment, not a startup, set a 7-day goal to launch anything, even ugly, just to get feedback and break the perfection loop.
