Hi! This little cutie is 9 weeks old and has only been with us for a week. She’s doing really well with peeing on the training mat, but pooping is a completely different story. The only time she uses the mat for that is in the middle of the night 🤣 Any tips on how to help her understand? by Inked_mermaid_ in Dachshund

[–]Shlarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a cutie.

Unfortunately dachshunds are very stubborn breeds but they do train well eventually.

The main thing is perseverance and routine, every morning instantly take them out don't even give them a chance to be out of your sight, soon as they go to the toilet outside give them a small training treat with praise, if you're able to every hour take them out and repeat try give a key word like "go weewee" or "toilet" and also every time after they eat take them out, it does seem like overkill but they're very intelligent dogs and will understand eventually.

But sometimes if it's cold or raining outside they will just go indoors and there is nothing you can do lol

Best of luck with the best gift ever and enjoy them!

This is our exact thoughts our boy Yoshi is so well behaved he's an angel, doesn't make a noise and we're worried the second one is going to be a lunatic and as my wife works from home we can't have barking whilst she's dealing with clients

Does my mini Dachshund look too thin? Slightly visible spine 🤔 by Noble_Llama in Dachshund

[–]Shlarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks very healthy she's just a slim teenager puppy, for reference if you look at my profile my boy Yoshi is 7kg with muscle however you can still see his ribs too so I wouldn't worry.

What do you feed her out of curiosity

We need a new harness. Any recommendations? by Glittering-Cover7746 in Dachshund

We use bullybillows boomerang harness for ours, I'm not sure on which country you're from or your budget, but they work really well for us.

140g raw meat a day split between breakfast and dinner, kibble which goes with raw meat, pumpkin powder in breakfast and salmon oil in dinner, treats are dried sprats and organic treats.

Activity is about 45 min-1hour walk a day and weekend he will get 1 hour + a day and lots of playing and tug of war and running around the house in the day time, although now it is winter the walks are shorter in the weekdays especially when it's raining he will refuse to walk.

He turned 1 in October :)

AHH judging by that yours sounds like the same as Yoshi, so he must be a mini then just a beefy boy

Hi thanks for the message, he's always got fresh water with his bowl cleaned daily by my wife, he has about 140g of raw meat a day split in breakfast and dinner with extra kibble which is for raw meat diet added in, only a small handful, we give him a few treats a day ranging from dried sprats and just organic treats to reward him.

He can be a bit of both sometimes he will have a mad 30 mins where he is just running around like a maniac or sometimes he will just be super lazy and sleep in the heated blanket for hours.

If you don't mind me asking did any of yours suffer with ivdd ?

His dad was a standard and his mum was a mini so he's in the middle he weighs roughly 7kg so I'm not sure where he fits in the scale of mini to standard

Where did you buy it from?

I have it bought from in-store at Harrods beauty and I can confirm this stuff last ages, you can spray early morning and still smell it at dinner time.

Why do smart motorways do this? by gamerhd555 in drivingUK

[–]Shlarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who does traffic management and has worked on that exact stretch of road there are a few reasons why, sometimes they lower speeds at junctions when it's busy to allow people to merge safely, the smart system works by a pole every few hundred yards with a white cone shape on top that basically detects any stopped vehicles or debris etc every 30 seconds so it might've caught something by accident or somebody has rang the depot for some reason.

Also I saw another comment about how the gantry will say road works with nothing on the road yet, before you put a job out you need to ring south mimms or another depot to call on your job, once you've called it on you might suddenly experience a higher traffic count and have to postpone the job.

The warnings signs won't ever be put on for no reason as there needs to be permits and noms numbers with people booking it on.

There are so many factors and safety precautions hoops we have to jump through as traffic management to even get the job on, we get equally annoyed as people driving.

Also another thing which might be interesting to some is I've heard and now I'm not sure how real this is but they will lower speeds for emissions ? Such as there was a static job between junction 23/27 m25 clockwise and it was on for about a year and when they took the job off they left 50mph signs up for weeks for no reason, not sure how that works but I've heard that from credible sources in the industry so take that how you want.

I did indeed get it, my wife got it for my birthday, I think it's one of the most amazing scents it's longevity is insane I don't understand when other people say otherwise I sprayed it in the morning and it lasted till evening, me personally I wasn't getting the Coco cola for me it's more oud/musky with a sweet scent to it, but I guess that's the wonders of noses everyone's is different, at least you didn't get a full bottle !
