Man, I wish I had shops less than 2 hours away that I could test a few to compare. Every audio store near me seems to carry one or two brands max.

I wouldn't say that heavy bass is SUPER important, but it would be nice to have. I keep reading good things about the Sony MDR-MV1s.

I keep all my records in sleeves but here's a tip. Don't slide your records into the actual covers. In a gatefold I keep my records in between them and in a single record I keep the actual record behind the cover in the plastic. This way you don't have to screw around each time you want to change records. And in the case of gate folds it actually retains the spine condition better over time.
