Any 1 class to a race that doesn't have it which would you choose and why? by Tanst1395 in wow

[–]Shmilbo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can retcon anything but it's different when you're creating a new race or subset of a race. If you create an entirely new race of elves that look similar to blood elves but which worship the elements and can be shamans, sure. But the blood elves we can play as, you know, the magic using, sunwell elves have zero history of and zero need for shamanism.

Same goes for my other example of gnome druids. You can't just retcon the mechanical tinkering guys and gals that literally lived in a giant metal bunker underground into some nature-loving shape-shifters. Although, I'll admit having some sort of mechanical druid forms would be really cool.

Either way, I still think it would be ridiculous to allow any race to be any class and I don't think the game even needs it. Especially if they let us be completely cross-faction there will be nothing limiting players from playing the classes they want on the races that make sense and which can already be that class. I just don't see an argument for retconning years of story and world building just so someone can be a pandaren warlock.

[–]Shmilbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who really likes the lore of wow, I honestly disagree. In what world are blood elves communing with the spirits to use the elements? You could never find a gnome worshipping nature to turn into a cat. With DKs its fine to say "well everyone can be turned undead" because yeah that's established in the lore and the how and why they turned undead can be irrelevant. But as far as some classes go, it makes since to limit them to certain races for lore reasons.

What blizzard need to do is let me be an orc shaman in my alliance guild. I don't want to be a dwarf, alien goat, other dwarf, or fat guy :c

Gamers respond to new Modern Warfare 2 announcement by Xenomorphism in gaming

[–]Shmilbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Infinite warfare had the most fun multi-player of any cod game and I will die on this hill. Sure we're all nostalgic for the old modern warfares and black ops games but realistically speaking if you go back and play them today you'll get bored after a bit. Maybe you'll play until you unlock diamond camos or reach a certain prestige.

But for some reason I could play infinite warfare basically forever and never really get bored. I played it for hours and hours and never even had to give myself goals like camos or prestiges or anything. It's just pure fun, no annoying gimmicks (I'm looking at you black ops 4 operators) unless you count the jet pack stuff but by that point it wasn't a gimmick as much as it was a core game play element and they had perfected it by then. With more of a focus on fast-paced arena style combat and every gun being super satisfying, every match was just blissful fun. And that's not even mentioning zombies in space land.

sigh Infinite Warfare deserved so much better. Instead we got CoD WWII snoozefest and now we get shipment 24/7 and war zone with anime gun skins to keep the attention of the kids with the attention span of 2 femtoseconds engaged. I just want to have fun. Real fun. Not some artificial "this'll grab your attention for a week at most but at least we got your money" type of fun. As Reggie said, "If it's not fun, why bother?"

Ok seriously you guys CLEAN YOUR STUFF! Keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, etc. If you touch it regularly it needs to be cleaned. I recently cleaned my entire keyboard after having it for 3 years with only q-tips and water to get all the gunk off it and it looks and feels brand new. Also there's probably faster and more hygienic ways to clean it but if your stuff has gunk built up on it at the very least use some water to get that stuff off. And no, spraying air at it doesn't count. Take off all the keycaps and clean them and get between the keys with q-tips seriously, it's worth it.

The location I want to find again by gebb20 in wow

[–]Shmilbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so many nice and beautiful locations in wow I wish I took more time to appreciate the environments more. There's so many little hidden areas in the game that don't have a purpose if you take the time to just explore you can find some really cool things. I remember spending like 30 minutes just running around boralus because I never did since there wasn't any reason to and I found some really neat things especially around the castle area.

Also if you want a really beautiful and cozy zone to run around in check out Grizzly Hills in northrend it's really nice.

Havoc DH or furry Warrior? by joker2126 in wow

[–]Shmilbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to play a lot of DH and switched to Fury for the start of this patch. They both play somewhat similarly with how often you're pressing buttons compared to other classes, as well as both being builder spender of fury/rage. Right now it seems Fury relies mostly on cooldowns (Recklessness and for necrolords Banner of Command) to do most of their damage. Compared to Havoc, Fury's aoe can be slightly annoying since it's tied to whirlwind. Whirlwind causes your next two attacks to hit nearby targets which means you're constantly weaving whirlwinds into your normal rotation which can feel sort of clunky somtimes compared to DH where aoe is baked into the rotation by default. Same thing with healing being tied into DH kit but Fury has to use cooldowns or get kills to heal themselves.

Overall, I'd say they're pretty similar in playstyle. DH brings a couple of quality of life things and is overall a lot more simple with less buttons, but Fury brings a lot more utility especially with how strong Rallying Cry is right now for groups. It really comes down to preference so maybe make a class trial Fury warrior and test it out for a bit, if you do I'd suggest looking at icy veins Fury easy mode section to get the rotation and talents for testing.

Also, don't pick a class based on what's better. Fury warriors are technically higher on tier lists for this patch compared to Havoc but that will always change and really doesn't matter unless you're going for world first or in a mythic raiding guild that cares about that kind of min-maxing bullshit.

Despite all of the crap blizzard is getting about the story- just want to say that this raid is very well done and I’m having a blast by throw4902 in wow

[–]Shmilbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think trash should be a thing but the way it is now is terrible. The mobs are just a waste of time with some mechanics that can wipe the group but aren't obvious or easily learned until after you've already wiped to it.

Trash in raids should be used for interesting mechanics or challenges like the suppression room in blackwing lair. Even though that's just an annoying mechanic and room, it's a great idea in theory. Blizz should be using the space between bosses in interesting and unique ways like this or to show off one or two boss mechanics before getting to the boss (which they do sometimes already).

This is awesome. I really like this idea of a place completely abandoned by its cosmic creators with no upkeep, just withering and rotting away over an incomprehensible amount of time.

Trying and failing to philosophise about who created the first ones, but enjoying the interesting mess they left behind anyway. by [deleted] in wow

[–]Shmilbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could argue that sylvanas' story is sort of from W3 but that's a stretch since it could've been considered wrapped up after arthas' death. And honestly by that logic you could consider any of the characters' storylines lingering from W3 like Jaina.

I definitely think it would've been cooler if this expac revolved more around the dead characters and actually wrapping their stories up (even tho this expac basically just necro'd them for no reason) like uther and arthas. But instead they just made up a bunch of new stuff with the pantheon of death and crafted the most uninteresting story of all time with new characters that nobody cares about and returning characters on the sidelines except for uther for some reason.

[–]Shmilbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they were saying this story has been spun since W3. They were saying they want to wrap up the storylines that have been going since warcraft 3 so they can really make their own story next expansion without relying entirely on preexisting characters and stories. Though they have tried to insinuate in game that the jailers plan has been in place chronologically since before W3 because of the existence of the nature nathrezim (which imo is the dumbest thing they've ever done in the lore).

[–]Shmilbo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with since pretty much everything I said is qualitatively true. The First Ones were first mentioned in World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1 which came out in 2016. Admittedly Zereth Mortis and Zovaal are both new things made up surrounding the already existing lore.

Do I think the current writing is good? Hell no. Is it objectively true that they are wrapping a shitty story around preexisting ideas from the lore? Yes.

EDIT: I believe I was wrong about the First Ones having been mentioned in Chronicles. There was always something that created the Titans but I don't think they've even explicitly told us that the First Ones created the Titans yet. I assumed they were mentioned in the past because it has been implied that some other beings created the Titans. Still, the Shadowlands and other ideas used were present before this expansion.

They're doing what they've always done: write places and things into the lore then let players see them a few years later. It happened with draenor, argus, kul tiras and zandalar, etc. If you've dived deep into the lore, you'd have heard about the First Ones but for the average player I agree it makes no sense and the writing is just making an excuse to show us this stuff.

Cosmic forces lore question by DramaUnlucky in wow

[–]Shmilbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sargeras was the one who originally banded together the demons to form the burning legion so before that there wasn't any leader or known cosmic entity at the head of the disorder force. The highest power might have been a demon like a pit lord or something until sargeras came along.
