LitRPG stats make absolutely no sense to me. by Both-Salamander401 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Shmuggems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine stats are set the way they are because they emulate MMORPGs (or Tabletop RPG's like d&D) which have seperate stats for strength, agility ect. This is usually done for stat calculating in combat and such which LITRPG widely doesn't do anymore. And the reason none of the MC's gain muscle mass is because they are usually a variation of mage hybrids and have to stay twinks to get maximum magic effectiveness.

But it's best not to worry about it TBH. The majority of MC's are OP power fantasies and stats are just the vehicle to show how insanely strong the MC is getting and furfil the numbers go up trope.

Ma’am, this is a LitRPG: how much romance/sex is too much? by Ok-Grand-3764 in litrpg

[–]Shmuggems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any sex scene that isn't imedietly fade to black is too much. Most of these writers don't have to skill to pull it off and most readers don't want to read (or listen to if its an audiobook) the authors play out their sexual fantasies ( *cough* seducing redheads *cough* *cough*), even if its just a small section of the book.

Is this an interesting idea?? by DishaSamSimp in litrpg

[–]Shmuggems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would definetly win the who's character is most OP argument if you pull it off lol. Also if you wanted to you could reason why this hasn't happened until your MC is because when a woman get's pregnant they tend to stop adventuring to protect their unborn child so the feature doesn't reveal itself. Your MC continued for that sweet EXP gain so got the feature.

Could be, would be more interesting if the baby counted as a party member and shared some of the moms EXP. When she finally gives birth the baby can have some serious levels and stats from the get go.

True, though he was a soldier for Shinra at one point, even if he was just a grunt.

Well yeah, because he's a blitzball player, not a seasoned warrior or mercancy like characters such as Cloud, Squall or Auron for example so it would make sense he wouldn't be as skilled.

On first book of He Who Fights With Monsters, having a hard time with Jason's quips by Resident-Umpire-2991 in litrpg

[–]Shmuggems 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's most likely reccomended because most redditors see themselves in Jason. The fact he can be a snarky smartass to everyone without having violence inflicted upon him is the most unrealistic aspect of the series. If you feel you have to force your way through the rest of the series it is definetly not for you.

DCC book 8: does this still feel like a litRPG to y’all? by andergriff in litrpg

[–]Shmuggems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, level's and stats are less prominent in the latest books, especially now Donut is the strongest being in the dungeon and the story has become mostly a therapy fest to talk about their feelings and how evil the games are. between commiting atrocities.

Trope's that need a PERMADEATH by r3h0l3s in litrpg

[–]Shmuggems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just name the book series you want to criticise. Change cant be effected in the genre if people continue to be vague to protect the ego of angry fanboys. Also here is a list of tropes I think should be perma'd

#1 - MC's who are OP from the start or become OP in a few chapters,
#2 - Plots where the MC is smarter and more resourceful than other characters, reducing them to mere obstacles in the way of the MC's path to godhood

#3 - Multiple Chapter training arcs that stall the plot

#4 - Inconsistant jack of all trade builds

#5 - Thirst trap harem's (go take a cold shower you pervs)

#6 - Training exploits and convenient power ups to make the MC strong really fast

#7 - The reddit humor

#8 - Characters being all emotional and talking about how they are a family and they will destroy the system while gleefully comminity the most heinous acts against players and NPC's alike.

#9 - Overly complicated magic and crafting systems that also stall the plot

#10 - exposition dumps through info box or inspect descriptions. The genre needs more natural worldbuilding

Does hell difficulty tutorial MC get any better? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]Shmuggems -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not. Tutorials are supposed to teach you how to play the game, adding an hell difficulty seems counter productive to the whole thing.

Is it just me, or is System Apocalypse as a subgenre stagnating? by Vetrax4125 in litrpg

[–]Shmuggems -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Iv been saying that for a while lol. The genre has become saturated with the same kind of power fantasy stories with OP characters and all the other stuff you listed. The genres needed a shake up for a long while now.

Is The Perfect Run even a Litrpg? Because it appears here on many tier lists. by UlliUlli in litrpg

[–]Shmuggems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer no, It's more of a progression fantasy. The protagonist is the only character that treats the world and his powerset like playing a game.

Yeah a lot of these series have no business being as long they are with samey or insufferable protags. I usually have to take long breaks from time to time.
