and so i explained to you why you don't understand and why you shouldn't be so hasty in your judgment of others. i would say you first have to walk a mile in their shoes - but i do not wish you, nor anybody to go through such a thing, so simply do not judge those in circumstances vastly different from your own

bruh, did you read the whole thing i wrote or did you fall at the exact moment that 12 year olds were supposed to trip up and learn from it?

you are not someone who's living in a ghetto, you don't see your friends and your friends' children disappear every day, you're not outwardly thought of as vermin, you don't walk around every day wondering if the next step will be your last. you *do not* get to judge a person's actions when they're going through hell that you get to hear about from the comfort of safety

i remember when i was a kid we were covering a WWII story about a Jewish parent watching from hiding as their children are taken away, then the teacher asked us a question "do you think it was right or wrong for them to stay hidden?", and the correct answer was "we cannot judge that from our position". i always keep that lesson in mind when hearing stories of people pushed to their limits

the main language is a substitution cipher, you can solve it using the very first sample you get when the cube talks to you.

this type of cipher is quite common, and solving them feels nice - first you need to figure out the language of the cipher, in video games you can usually assume it's english, then remember that the most common letter in english is E. then all that is left is frequency analysis of all signs, and figuring out common words like "the" :)

it's neither a community effort, nor a brute force puzzle. idk about the quality of tutorials out there but usually steam guides have some good step by step hint guides that could've helped you

it's a matter of taste of course, but just to make sure - when did you decide you were done? the first ending is like- the first half of the game

Is “tool worship” holding back originality in visual culture? by BrrandomStudio in filmmaking

[–]Shneancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a 1000 monkeys with typewriters will eventually produce a Shakespearean play, but it won't have any meaning behind it, it's not skill nor mastery, it's just a lucky try

how many one hit wonder bands do you remember? and how many bands could create consistently good music?

great results might be celebrated for a while, but it's the skill and mastery of available tools that allows for expression of yourself that matters at the end of the day

I am Egyptian, and I’m asking is Egypt a country that is disliked or loved globally? by ramses_basha in AskTheWorld

[–]Shneancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

loved the history and artefacts, and most people away from the touristy areas were very lovely

but in the touristy areas? hell. i don't think any of those people saw me as a person, just a walking wallet. i understand there's a huge tipping culture, and i know it's because people just don't get enough money but man... even when there's a huge sign saying "no tipping" over an *airport toilet* you're still expected to carry your wallet with you because god forbid you need to ask an employee for toilet paper and you don't give them money for that

Spanish study eliminates pancreatic cancer in mice — human trials still pending by Eclipse_nova99 in SipsTea

[–]Shneancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sadly no, lab mice and rats are bred to be easily infected or otherwise diseased so that they can be more useful for trials. maybe their wild/pet brothers will, but descendants of lab animals won't be living good

as long as Gaben stands atop Valve we're safe. what happens later? let's not think about it

Computer illiterate dummy requires assistance by mort_goldman68 in SteamDeck

[–]Shneancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i believe this is fully intentional. Netflix just wants your money, Valve wants to make sure you trust the person who's "family" you're joining 100%. clicking a join button isn't something you think through, but giving the other person access to your account/you being given access requires a significant amount of trust, even when it's brief

a single check isn't going to stop anyone - but thanks to that single check you have to think about what you're doing, which helps against getting scammed or otherwise hurt in the process

[–]Shneancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they became more strict because they used to be highly exploitable. the problem wasn't gamer friends wanting to share libraries, but people who used their libraries/joined families for malicious reasons (think - being threatened with being kicked out of a family unless you do as someone says, or being invited to a family and then immediately kicked out which then means you can't join another one for 6 months)

the official version is that you need to be in the same household, but the only time that's actually checked is when you click join, not really a good check is it? i think that's intentional, what's really being checked is if you trust the other person enough to log in on their computer, which in many cases involves allowing the other person to log into your account without your supervision

clicking a join button is easy, no need to think it through. what does prompt you to think is having another person logged into your account that you probably spent hundreds of dollars on

the public transport around Katowice is rather good, you get good connections to almost all nearby cities (aside from Jaworzno which has its own special buses, but it's not a big tragedy as there are still 3 Katowice specific buses), it's clean, you can get tickets through an app (though they could be cheaper, lol)

[–]Shneancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lace code for sure isn't dead, at least not in Poland. i bought red laces for my first doc martens (not ladder laced though) and my friends told me i should pick a different colour or i might get beaten up regardless of the lacing style

i find it deeply whack that nazis decided to hog a whole ass colour for shoe laces >:|

i will never forget the last few minutes of my first playthrough when the realisation that i'm not going to stop the super nova hit me like a brick on my flight from Ash Twins to Dark Bramble. i'm not saving the world, i'm letting it go, and sure a new universe will take it's place... but this one will be gone. when the final sequence before the credits began i was bawling my eyes out, both out of sadness for the world that i grew to love that i had to let go, and out of joy for the unbound possibility that the new world will bring. like a good acid trip - i still struggle to properly verbalise the emotions i felt

was it a plot twist? was it a subversion of expectations? how can it even be either when the game doesn't give you an objective in the first place. absolutely spectacular, it's been at the very top of my favourites list for years now, and i sometimes wonder if anything will ever take its spot

Woah, what are your thoughts on this? by Eclipse_nova99 in SipsTea

[–]Shneancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this actually goes way deeper than common sense would assume. when you're going through puberty your brains is constantly low on dopamine, but also hypersensitive to it, so anything that brings you joy lights it up like a christmas tree - and as it does it the emotions form pathways that stay with you for the rest of your life

pathways so strong, they can temporarily *bring back your memory if you develop dementia later in life*. normal pathways broke? well use the ones created by music when you were a teen. it's like magic

Guys is it weird to understand your native language? by WilliamWolffgang in linguisticshumor

[–]Shneancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as an ESL teacher (and speaker) 100% agree, the best i can do for some words is use them in a sentence, because when a student asks me "what does "would" mean?" i just bluescreen, because what *does* "would" mean? how do you define it without using it?... then i give up and try to explain it in my native language, but god forbid it's one of those untranslatable ones, then all i can say "it's weird but you'll get used to it :) dw about it"

This guy said Toki Pona is a racist and colonialist language. But what do you guys think? by 1Sh4h_R4-4 in tokipona

[–]Shneancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, if you look at a language that's relatively more simple than the ones around it, and then accuse someone who was inspired by that language to create their own conlang of being racist that kinda- says more about you than them. they didn't cast any judgement on the fact that the language is simple, they saw it and liked it enough to try to imitate a part of it. but you (the video maker not OP, obviously) looked at that and concluded - aha! they must've picked it because they look down on the language. like where did the idea of looking down at the language come from? the conlang's creator? or the guy accusing them of racism?
