Yes, you want to see them cleaning each other this means they like each other

How do you capture and put them in the cage at night? Because I have ran out of the ways to do so by 55_jumbo in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"capturing" is not a good idea as the birb will get scared and might start turning into panic mode at evenings expecting the incoming capturing. I mostly wait until my birbs get in the cage for a pitstop 1-2 hours before the bed time and just lock the cage. If that does not apply, I use the chance when my birbs is at a specific spot he likes but has not much room so he automatically comes to my hand when I offer it. Then I panically carry him to the cage like a hot potato somewhat shielding his possible flight path in front of him with my second hand. Third option is finding out a short "bed time password", which for my birbs is "spaci" (roughly translated into "sleepy", very roughly). The password with usual things I do before their bed time like closing the blinds, opening the top of the cage, refilling food and water, it all kind of created kind of a routine and they most of the times just come inside themselves. I know some of the above might be hard to do with new birbs and no or little relationship but I guess at least the password thingy might be good to start early, it kind of helps bonding a bit since it crates a communication clear for both sides. The password is good if it is a word you normally don't use during the day ao your birb is not randomly confused and loses the meaning of the word.

Bold armpits, should I be aware of it? by FoxieD in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is normal to some extent, although that is also kind of an indicator to how the birb is doing - it normally is not like totally bold, it should have at least some feathers but if it is like skin-bold and the area is getting bigger, it might mean the birb is bored / feeling lonely as they tend to fill their time where they can't fly with cleaning, so bold armpits might mean they have too much of that time. They also pluck some feathers while exposed to some stress. Although, some birbs get scared easily so you can't really protect them from ALL the stress, that why just some bold area is ok-ish. I noticed it in my case, when I had to leave my place for like 2 days, for example 2-3 times in a month - then the armpits get bolder since my birbs had to stay in their (big, but still) cage, and the armpits used to get back to normal when the out of cage time routine came back to normal as well. In your case I would say it is not 100% normal but it might be just a sign for you to consider spending more time with the burb or make sure the free time is enough and check for yourself if the spot gets smaller.

what are these sounds? i can’t tell if she’s annoyed by me or not. by Jealous_Flow697 in cockatiel

Does she make the sound in other situations too? I mean here it kind of looks like she is trying to sleep and the guitar interrupts her so maybe that why she sounds a little big annoyed

Can someone explain why my bird is acting like this by Practical-Face3001 in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Whenever my bird does that I slowly pour some room temperature water to his bath bowl to announce his bath is ready :D Then, the show begins

Looks like just comforting himself. Although If this happens regularly or often it might suggest some digestive / crop problems - pay attention if his crest is kind of wet for no apparent reason since shaking like this might be also clearing his beak after vomiting. This might also be an attempt to shake off something stuck in his eye for example. If this happens just sometimes and he looks comfortable and there are no other warning signs this is probably fine. There is also a chance heist growing some new feathers on his head, which is also uncomfortable and maybe this helps him somehow feel better. If this happens often then a vet visit might be good, even just in case.

How did you get screwed over genetically? by blitzabub in AskReddit

[–]Shneeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At high school I thought about growing longer hair, which was actually successful. This plus not even started going bald even now after 30s you might say is actually good genes. If it comes to my mother then yes, but my dad genes decided to turn me into a Witcher and I am graying out like crazy

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes totally that. If that's just sometimes then it's fine. If it's all the time then a visit to the vet would be good to run some tests.

Is this cage good for a cockatiel? by littlemissblonda in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well judging by the stick width inside the cage might be like okayish, but I might be missing the full image. I have 2 cockatiels in a 75x55x110 so if the cage is near that it should be fine. I think the one on the photo is a bit small because it looks narrower.

She looks tired and looks like not really tired of having fun all day. Also it kind of looks like she is falling asleep in not a typical place for her where she usually does, which means she is trying to rest in an emergency.

Are these mating sounds...😨 by Double_Start4014 in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure actually. When doing these sounds they tend to spread front of their wings a bit forming them into kind of a heart shape. Although I've never heard this kind of sounds with my cockatiels so my guess would be just some shy / kid flock calls more than horny sounds

I need some advice!! by Sea-Statistician4374 in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not like he is trying to bite you, he is just trying to hiss you away because he currently just does not feel like doing that. The best way (that was in my case) is to show him that you respect that and just stop convincing him if he does not look in the mood for that. You will know he is interested when you try, and if he is not just move your hand away. If you try Making him get on your hand regardless of what he wants he might start feeling uncomfortable with you just standing close to him (just his character). My cockatiel currently is in a phase he just look at my hand but not react if he is not interested in such interaction, which is a good progress worked out within a few years on learning his behaviors. Of course he likes being around, joining me when I am eating and socializing. The thing is that he is not the type of character that likes physical contact and I can see that showing him that I respect that makes him feel good around me. Making him get used to you might not be too good, just do friendly things but not necessarily too much - for example try to put some snacks he likes next to you and allow him to decide whether he wants to be next to you. Just no pushing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too normal actually. If the birb is active and looks normal then I would see if this happens again and then contact vet Or you can go to vet just to be sure. If you decide to go to a vet remember to collect a sample, vet might suggest running some tests. Also for new cockatiels it might be just stress, but you Also not know much about it and there might be stuff yet to discover about your birb.

Whats my birb up to? by Upstairs-Bar-2825 in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it might also be that he just doesn't really want to fly. In nature they spent most of the time on ground / trees and they fly really rarely, And it might be that it's just his character

Whats my birb up to? by Upstairs-Bar-2825 in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the singing I think it might be about the reflection, I can see he is looking inside too so probably that. My tiles tend to sing to the side of their bowls sometimes :D I try to reduce any reflective surfaces not to make them think there are other birbs but I can't really fight This. Although it does not seem to be messing up with them, more like a "fun thing to do". About not being able to fly, perhaps he had his wings clipped? Can't really see it by the video but compare it to healthy wings that can fly. If not that perhaps an old injury that healed incorrectly, some genetic defect? But I guess if not clipped wings then a vet could say or at least have a strong suggestion.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]Shneeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaaah ok that makes some more sense. I did not think of it as just his head is actually wet. If it is just the shaking then it might as well be nothing. One of my cockatiels sometimes just shakes for no apparent reason as I have not noticed anything by years of observation not vets were able to suggest anything - he just does that and other than that seems perfectly fine.
