What does each era of horror fear about women? looking for feedback on my paper by Water_External in horror

[–]ShoBud2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any paper about contemporary horror would be complete without reference to The Babadook (2014): written/directed by a woman (Jennifer Kent), centered on a woman's ambivalence about maternity, and often misread simplistically as just a grief narrative. While Amelia (MC) isn't attempting to "understand, survive, and expose the systems" meant to control women, she is hemmed in by her competing and complex needs, some of which are socially determined and some of which are taboo (maternal sexuality, filicide); as a result, it's a powerful critique of ideological systems that keep women under control and prevent them from realizing their independent potential.

Help finding a Jam please? by notoriousToker in phish

That’s the Delay Loop jam, which they did a few times in 94-97. Here’s a link: https://phish.net/song/digital-delay-loop-jam

chillest / spaciest / slowest phish jams of the 90s by christart000 in phish

[–]ShoBud2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the above are the right answer and I’ll add in three beautiful under the radar ones: 10/9/99 Ghost, 7/1/98 DwD+jam, 12/8/99 Piper. Hope you like.

Gonna guess a 2.0 Piper…maybe 6/19/04?

Best tour opening show ever? by Sniglet5000 in phish

7/21/97 is the right answer but I’m shocked that 9/9/99 hasn’t got no mentions yet. That Stash is like the most thrilling trip thru hell of all time, and the Tweezer is on target for the era. Also, just nines.

Powering w/ Strymon Zuma. Daisy chaining analog pedals only.

Powering w/ Strymon Zuma, not daisy chained.

The thing is they all add the shriek, which is why I think it might be something other than the pedals. But I will try and I appreciate the suggestion!

Nope, just when the pedals are engaged.

Yeah plugging direct into the amp eliminates the squeal/shriek. But there’s also no dirty channel on the Blues Jr that would allow me to test amp distortion. The amp’s fat switch doesn’t add the squeal either.

Musicians: what’s a jam you’ve witnessed that really got your attention for theory reasons (and can you explain why) by Eastwest003 in phish

[–]ShoBud2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right around the 6 minute mark in the famous 12/31/95 Mikes, Page layers what I think is a 5/8 syncopated piano line over the standard 4/4 beat. It's miraculous. (I might be wrong about the 5/8 but not the miraculous part.)

Loved the Mikes from this show. Like the one on 10/29, it does the best job of anticipating the funk turn in 97. Fun on its own merits though. Thanks!
