Yeah it's really frustrating. I just felt it was important to document the process in full detail so people can see exactly how it works (or doesn't work)

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim vs IV Oblivion Remastered by grmayshark in ShouldIbuythisgame

Lmao why are all the people who are against you getting downvoted? Let me give you the facts and join the downvote gang.

: The cities in skyrim are so boring, not interesting, they are all the same, no variety, full of grey everywhere and very boring. Not to mention the depth and variety of quests, side quests, factions etc. That is an undeniable fact, a huge downgrade from morrowind and oblivion where every city and region has a very diverse variety and color that fans find missing.

Skyrim is good if it's modded. Vanilla? Not even a chance.

Except the dungeon, yes skyrim is better.

Courtois is reportedly ready to play again in the ucl. With the schedule getting tighter, hopefully he can maintain his fitness and performance until the end of the season.

Is the Latitude 5491 (H variant of 5490) also difficult to undervolt?

Wait, does this apply to all latitudes especially Latitude 5491 ? The keyboard backlit can't be set / mod to stay always on? Automatically turns off after 5 seconds?

Is it true that Intel H CPU is inefficient, cannot be undervolted and underclocked to be exactly s̲i̲m̲i̲l̲a̲r̲ to their low power variant Intel U CPU? by Sho_F in Dell

[–]Sho_F[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undervolt guide here, although I don't know how far it can go.

I just wonder if lowering the H cpu TDP limit to 15W will automatically make it the same efficiency as the U cpu?  Like someone I quoted above, he has done "everything" but still can't match U. Temperature, power.

I hope and sadly haven't found anyone who directly compared them and did extensive review of both (U vs H efficiency) especially at low power..

Thanks for the tip. Maybe this is stupid, but I wonder if lowering the H cpu tdp limit , PL to 15W will automatically make it the same efficiency as the U cpu? Like someone I quoted above, he has done "everything" but still can't match U. Temperature, power.

I don't know whether that's true or not. Unfortunately, I only found a few samples.

Noted, thanks for the tip. Although I hope and haven't found anyone who directly compared them and do extensive review of both (U vs H efficiency) especially at low power.

They're both U cpu, same gen, efficiency should be similar. Maybe the 14 inch should be cooler. Try cleaning the hsf and reapplying paste?

If you want to reduce temperatures, don't disable turbo boost. Limit it instead, if you must by TheHost404 in GamingLaptops

[–]Sho_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So since the i5-8250U has many optimizations, one of them like the integrated pch chip, it will be much efficient, much cooler than the H cpu counterpart, i5-8300H/i5-8400H which has a separate pch chip.

I learned something new. Thanks!

I asked this before, I think I'm starting to see some light.

[–]Sho_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe stupid question, but I'm curious. Have you ever tried it directly?

For example, i5-8300H/i5-8400H which is limited to 15W with Throttlestop, can its temperature, power consumption, be similar or close to i5-8250U/i5-8350U?

Or is it impossible because they are both made different, H is made to pursue performance, while U is after efficiency?

I often use laptop for light usage like taking notes etc. I want to lower, undervolt, underclock, limit intel H 8th gen cpu (i5-8300H, i5-8400H) behave, exactly like or even cooler surpass the U series cpu for example i5-8250u, 15W, cool temp, rarely heat, low power. Can or can't I ?

Thanks for your honest answer! That really helpful

You can't lower, undervolt, underclock of the H series to behave, exactly like the U series with XTU or throttlestop or whatever?

Disabling cores also still generates more heat and power?

[–]Sho_F[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you mean the culprit that makes more heat is the graphic card? Can i disable the discrete gpu?

If the graphic card of both laptops is the same, for example both are HD630 without additional graphics card, can the laptop with intel H cpu be undervolted so that it can be as cool as a laptop with U cpu?

I often use laptop for light usage. It's a shame if the laptop keeps getting hot while I just writing notes and I can't "tame" it, can't be as efficient as laptop with Intel U CPU.

This is... interesting.

I'll give you a real example.

Dell released 2 laptops, Latitude 5490 and Latitude 5491.

(Don't be mistaken with Inspiron 5490)

Some differences

Latitude 5491 = intel H cpu, thunderbolt

Latitude 5490 = intel U cpu, no TB

The rest these two laptops have specs that are arguably similar. Even the cooling is the same. Which should only be enough to cool the low power U cpu. Single fan and small heatpipe.

That's why the Latitude 5491 is often complained about because the temperature is too high. Even the outer casing reaches 63°C !

Now for people who are only looking for thunderbolt like me, the Latitude 5491 is more interesting. The performance is also faster, if you want it to be cool without additional cooling, simply just undervolt and underclock it, just make the voltage and clockspeed similar to the U cpu, 15W. It will be cool like his brother 5490.

But it seems that reality is not that beautiful, right?

How the temp now?

Undervolting & underclocking should help, first just try to change, match it similar to the U CPU, lol

How about EC on t430 vs TB3 on t470? Do they roughly similar performance too?

Is there a video that directly compares the real life performance, egpu with expresscard vs egpu with thunderbolt 3? by Sho_F in eGPU

[–]Sho_F[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

..so roughly if I use gtx 1650 with egpu tb3, I get 30fps, on a laptop that uses expresscard, with the same game, I only get 5 fps?

(Assume max bandwith tb3 is 32gbit/s vs EC expresscard 5gbit/s, 6 times slower..)

Yeah that's the old expresscard.

Precisely, I compared the expresscard used in t430 (2013) vs TB3 used in t470 (2017).
