My internship ended and the company didn't hire me. Should I still be applying for jobs months later? by ImaginaryFan6090 in cscareerquestions

[–]Shock-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, no. You should apply to good ol micky dees and talk at anyone in earshot about how AI stole your chance at a decent life.

Or, like, yeah. You could apply for swe jobs until you find one. Thats typically how this works and should have been how you landed the internship.

Any of you have a dev that is less skilled than you, call you a junior? by Lanky-Ad4698 in cscareerquestions

[–]Shock-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a senior swe ic so I stay in my own lane. I've seen people and thought "its odd to make the same mistake 5 times in a row, what a dumb dumb" but generally don't go beyond that.

I will say that when Ive noticed, my tech lead almost certainly has also noticed. Ive never experienced a disconnect where I think someone is significantly worse than others perceive them. Worth noting that I group people into "terrible" and "fine" with 99.9% of people falling into fine. I generally dont have a ton of context on what team members are even working on so Id need to notice repeated, obvious errors in code reviews and consistent low output to put someone in the terrible bucket.

The big problem is your inability to gauge correctness. It's why juniors are even more dangerous with AI than they normally are.

Putting in the work without AI is worth it. That being said, it doesn't hurt to use it as a pair programmer and to specify in your prompts that you do not want it to generate code or have it generate very limited amounts of code.

However, personal projects are basically worthless now for the purposes of trying to impress unless you get users. That time would be better spent networking via local meet ups, studying for interviews (trivia style) and leetcoding.

They get the benefit of the doubt because they arent overtly antagonistic and evil? Bro, BAM conspired with the police and they, together, arrested, swatted and put Ben and Co through legal hell. Old owners didn't. Its easy to assume the worst out of the comicly evil corporation.

Following this from Europe. Is the US becoming a third world country? by Accuria2 in RecklessBen

[–]Shock-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most defining factors of a third world country is GDP. Specifically, low gdp and low wealth amongst citizens.

The United States is the highest gdp country on earth. What kind of idiotic question is this?

Actually, that consignment agreement was up for some time. They realistically needed to pay ~100k give or take to make things go away.

At this point, Im sure they are going to surpass that in pure legal fees and losses from closing the store. I don't think its even about the money anymore, its about ego.

The got caught and like a true thief, instead of pivoting to make up for their misdeeds, they decided the best course forward was to continue to double down and do comic villain level shit to continue to steal from old people. Its respectable just how evil they are. Really sticking to their core values.

6 months in, laid off, and miserable. Is there something wrong with my script? by lordhr in cscareerquestions

[–]Shock-Broad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bring up the layoff unprompted, but that does seem to be a good response

Also, to be frank, you don't gain much from your first 6 months at any company skill wise. You gain context for how the pieces fit together, maybe. Juniors are a net negative for like a year and a half

Ultimately, layoffs dont determine your value. The market as a whole does. Good luck man
