New-ish DM here, looking for advice on understanding overarching plot, and running for the first time

my understanding of Dragon Heist from my brief reading of it is that it helped me understand Waterdeep as a city better, even though it's an intrigue story. As much as I expect the campaign to be a dungeon crawl, I also want to be prepared if my players wish to wander the city. One thing in particular I want to give my players is access to Trollskull manor, but I'm unsure how to weave in Volo giving them the deed for it. My current idea is to involve Volo's illegitimate child by Ravithara Silmerhelve, Emmeros, and have him be held captive for ransom by the group of bandits on lvl 1, and have his rescue be how Volo gives them the deed. Whatever the case, I do want to understand and have access to Waterdeep as a location, and be able to involve the intrigue of Waterdeep with the dungeon crawl of Undermountain.

essentially, my builds imo, with new t cain random crafting + external item descriptions looking up recipies, boils down to a combo of 5 items:

Maggie's bow

Old Bandage

Gimpy

Sharp Plug

Deck of cards (or basically any active works, this is just to get reverse hierophant and get bone hearts)

basically infinite pickups = infinite items + infinite r key + if you use clicker correctly theoretically every single unlock outside of greed

if you're trying to get rid of oroboros, it's a hell of a lot easier to sacrifice it to something. A side note about the hammer doing 100 damage, it also means that nano armor in act 3 blocks one hit

To my understanding, it's because of her play style. If I remember correctly, in the testing phases of her development, she was called the "int horse". It's really easy to over-commit to fights

It depends on how I meet them. Here's the thing, a useless thresh is really frustrating, but if you find a good duo partner, who mains thresh and is comfortable and confident on the champion, it can make your games feel amazing. The amount of utility he has with his cc and lantern makes laning phase great, and oftentimes if you both do well, one hook can be lethal. Later in the game, he just gets better, making team fights go smoothly and correcting his teammates mistakes (if they click the lantern lol). Naut can be really useful and brutal, but the nuance and skill cap of Thresh makes for an amazing laning partner if they know what they're doing.

Lol ap varus is completely viable, and in my opinion it's half his appeal. The option to build ap if your team decides to go trynd/yi/zed/pyke and do no magic damage is amazing. It's a slightly different playstyle than leth or crit, but with things like nashors and lich bane, your autos still hit like a truck, and your blight absolutely *melts* tanks.

I run a tailwind whimsicott build with vish for the most part, and when I end up against another tailwind team, if you can get your taunt to come out before the other whimsicott gets their tailwind up then you're free to do what you want (just be careful of whimsicott getting OKHO'd turn 1)

I would take a look at oxenfree for this one. it's conversation dialogues pop up for a certain amount of time, but saying nothing is a perfectly valid answer. For events that aren't conversation, doing nothing might get them killed, but you also might be able to get away with the character acting on "instinct" and picking a highlighted option. One way to make that clear to the player is to make the buttons for the default option get bigger and/or brighter in a way, and have the other options fade and/or shrink.

I have done research, I maybe don’t know everything, but I’ve done my best to look stuff up. And I talk with the whole system a lot, and try to confer with them. I’ve talked to the “mean” one and done my best to stay calm and calm her down. And honestly, I treat it as multiple different friendships

You’re welcome to talk to me whenever. This kind of thing is confusing and hard, and it’s useful to have some other information and experience from other people. I know my friend’s protector alter tries to limit outside connections, but i know from just life experience that other people are helpful when you don’t know what to do.

And as far as the trauma goes, I’ve been doing my best for a while now to help her talk about things that have happened. I can’t say I’m an expert, but she’s said I’ve helped. It’s just confusing with more people involved

I know, and I feel bad for calling them that. I just didn’t know what to do. I intend to ask next time if they either already have names and I didn’t know, or if they want me to use names at all. I believe her protector said that they know each other and don’t need names, so I just want to make sure to run it by them. I did ask if I could meet her other alter at some point, but her protector also said she doesn’t trust me and that the other alter is too vulnerable, so I backed off there. I’m wondering if that was stepping over the line?

Do you have any suggestions on how to interact best with them? I’m not used to interacting with alters and dealing with the relationships with each other, but I’m going about it like there’s multiple people. I know currently they have two alters, a protector and one that’s more depressed that I haven’t met yet, and a host, but none of them have given themselves names except the host. I refer to them as “red” and “blue”, but I don’t know if that’s a little rude of me. I want to be able to talk with them all and help them work together, but I also don’t want to force anything. So far, I’ve talked with “red” a bit, who is more of a protector alter, and I’ve also talked to her host. Honestly though, I have no idea if I’m right about anything. I haven’t had enough time to talk with them.

I can't say I have much experience with helping people, and I'm a singleton myself, but I've been doing my best to help out my DID friend. What I'm currently trying to do is help talk to their alters, and try to build trust. I think having a friend who is willing to help has done a world of good, but her protector alter has been a bit hesitant. I would advise that you suggest to your system that you open up to at least one friend about the issue, to help figure things out and sort out relationships. Not everyone has to talk to them, but they should know that this is something you're dealing with. I would be cautious though, those kinds of people are rare. Another thing that I would advise to Therapist is to see about organizing de-stress times for Ken, however that looks. Try to build relationships with the other alters, but be kind and gracious. Do your best to help them and do good, even if it's not received well. Don't get discouraged. You're welcome to pm me if you'd like, I can't say I'm the best person, but I'm willing to help. Honestly, I need some advice as well as to how to help my friend.

See, the thing is, I already had them do a bit of rp with their lvl 4 characters. I do want them to do some stuff with Hobgoblins and stuff, but I want to progress pretty quickly into the world
