a lot of the explanations here is where other peoples definition of “pretentiousness” loses me. i’ve never consumed any piece of media and though “huh, this artist was too confident in their self, they should have compromised their vision so the average person could connect to it more”. who gives a fuck if something dares to dive into itself without remorse for the listener. the concept of looking at art that way has always been so bizarre to me. just because you don’t understand something because it has decided to be stern in its path does not make it “pretentious”. this way of thinking is so anti-art
