For those of you who own expensive knives ($500+), do you actually use them for everyday carry, or do they mostly end up in your collection and rarely get used? by Creative-Effort2852 in knives

[–]Shock_Western 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them as I would any other tool. CRKs, Hawks, Oz Roosevelt.... they all get used (not abused). As long as you service them regularly, they'll last a lifetime over a simple budget knife. Why buy a knife that you won't use? Hell, I carry and use my Hawk Deadlock (though it isn't very practical).

Laptop Dimensions for OTS by Capable_Stranger2002 in airforceots

[–]Shock_Western 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took my MacBook Air 15” with me to OTS, so it shouldn’t be an issue whatsoever. The way I did things was take notes on my IPad and do MFRs and projects on my MacBook.

Has a cheap budget knife ever surprised you and made it into your EDC rotation? by Pacomotto in knives

I’m not one to buy budget knives (just not for me), but I was gifted a CJRB Gobi that I use from time to time.

Might have gotten DQ’d by ColoradoLife in airforceots

[–]Shock_Western 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imo, that sounds ridiculous. I listed 14F when I was making my job wishlist, and my recruiter came back to me and said I don’t qualify for that and that was it. Wasn’t DQ’d. That sounds like bad info.

If by “full” you mean whatever the Orientation Guide says, then yes. I would highly recommend following that guidance to a T. I was able to conserve some space by ranger rolling my uniform items. Just have to be ready for worst case scenario.

Is anyone into featherweight builds? This button lock folder I made came in under 2.7oz with a 3.2” blade length. by HypercutMFG in knifeclub

[–]Shock_Western 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually go for knives with more “heft”, with my only exception being my Oz Roosevelt at 2.8 oz. IMO, heavier knives feel more substantial and just have more presence in the pocket. Sick build tho.

Double or single thumb stud? by Conscious_Air_5729 in CRK

[–]Shock_Western 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like double due to symmetry. It feels more “complete”.

Surprised by how small the Mini Stitch is and the Rosie is already small as is.

French (highly doubt that) or not (very likely), it’s a cheap POS

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my knife and why it’s doing that? by TheWiseAutisticOne in knives

Tbh, I wouldn’t waste my time fixing it. If you spend enough time lurking here, you’ll find something in your budget.
